I really like this idea as a meme, which is a meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. It's, basically, books you've discovered during the week, whether you've just added them to the never ending "to-read" list (or shelf on Goodreads, as I do) or if you've actually bought them.
I haven't done this in a while, and I add to the post as I find things, and it was just Bout of Books and I always add a ton of books to my TBR - so this is going to be a long one.
Skulduggery Pleasant (Skulduggery Pleasant #1) by Derek Landy, Tom Percival
I'd heard about this before, at some point. But then it was mentioned in one of the forums in one of the Goodreads groups I'm a part of and lurk around at points - and it sounded really good, and I hadn't added it as 'to read' so maybe I haven't heard of it before and something in my brain is making the wrong connection. Goodreads
Backward Compatible: A Geek Love Story by Sarah Daltry, Pete Clark
This sounds kind of ridiculously adorable. And that's all I can remember from the little plot summer on goodreads.
Dissonance (Disonnance #1) by Erica O'Rourke
This one isn't out yet but is a young adult science fiction novel based on one of my many, many slight obsessions (that started with SG-1): parallel universes and that every small thing creates another one. And someone on my goodreads feed was reading it and fangirling over the world builidng and now I need it. It's not out quite yet, I don't think, but it sounds so freaking good. Goodreads
How to Build a Girl by Caitlin Moran
I've heard about her other book, How to Be a Women, and I bought it off BookOutlet but I've never felt the need to read it. This one, though, for whatever reason (maybe because it's fiction, or because I watched a video interview with her about it), sounds really amazing. (Also - that cover. Do you see that cover). Goodreads
Gates of Thread and Stone (Gates of Thread and Stone #1) by Lori M. Lee
I don't know much about this one besides there's a labrinth, it's YA fantasy, and it got pretty good ratings from a few people I'm friends with on Goodreads. I don't need a lot of convincing about any fantasy book. Goodreads
Ticker by Lisa Mantchev
Steampunk - a girl with a clockwork heart. The cover is the first thing that drew me in, but also steampunk, I'm a sucker for it, and this sounds really good. Goodreads
Sin City, Vol. 1: The Hard Goodbye by Frank Miller
Can we just - talk about the covers of these graphic novels? I got this in the mail yesterday and holy hell it's gorgeous. I'm not sure why I like it so much, but - seriously it's gorgeous, I can't wait to get to it (does anyone else horde graphic novels for read-a-thons?) Goodreads
Seconds by Brian Lee O'Malley
I've never read his highly popular graphic novel series - but this looks awesome. The cover, first off, is bright as hell and if you take off the jacket - it's so cool. I have refrained from buying this so far, but I know it's probably only a matter of time. Goodreads
The Girl of Fire and Thorn Stories by Rae Carson
So I bought the first book in this YA Fantasy series when it first came out - and then never read it. Lately, though, I've been hearing amazing things about it and, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the last book just come out? These are prequel short stories, I might be a sucker for prequel short stories. I want to read the first book and know I'm going to like it before I binge buy the rest of the series, though. Goodreads (series pages)
Emilie and the Hollow World (Emilie #1) by Martha Wells
I've seen this book a few times, but I finally actually looked into it. And it sounds really good and the cover is gorgeous and Strange Chemistry, sadly, has just been closed by Angry Robot and I decided to buy some of their books (also I'm assuming their titles will be going out of print? Better safe then sorry). Goodreads
Firelight (Darkest London #1) by Kristen Callahan
I've heard good things - this is one of the books I discovered during Bout of Books - and it sounds really good. Goodreads
Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1) by Jeanienne Frost
This sounds fun. It's Urban Fantasy with romance and those are always fun, people I'm friends with on GR's (I judge a lot by this, can you tell?) seem to really like it and it has a 4.22 average rating on Goodreads.
The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta
So there's that show that's based on this book and the show, what I've seen, is weird and really good. It's getting mixed reviews and, at least I think, because the characters aren't really likable, at least a good percentage of them and it's strange. I want to read the book, though, because that's how this works. Goodreads
Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey
I still don't know how I feel about "New Adult" as a genre (it's mostly just romance with high school/college characters, I don't get why it's a separate genre but anyway), but this sounds fun? I don't know if I'll buy it, but I try and check it out somewhere. Goodreads
Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky
This sounds really interesting - it's about a twelve year old kid who feels like a girl and the struggles faced with that and such. It sounds amazing, but sadly it doesn't come out until November. Still - sounds incredible, and I've only seen one person talk about it, but they really liked it. Goodreads
I Want It That Way by Ann Aguirre
First - she's had two books come out in the same month. That's just - ridiculous. And I really enjoyed Mortal Danger and this one sounds completely different and interesting. It's contemporary romance with a college girl and a single dad - it sounds cute. Goodreads
Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard
I've seen this around - how can you not with that cover - and I finally really looked into it and it sounds strange and amazing. Sounds fairy tale-esque. Basically I'm sold, I just have to get my hands on it. Goodreads
Whew - and that is that. I really enjoy this meme, especially going around to see what others are discovering, but it makes me go back and then want the books more. Ah well.

These are the books I've discovered since the last time I was able to get one of these up.
One Man Guy by Michael Barakiva
I'm not sure if I'll end up picking this one up or not, I just haven't decided. It sounds good - it's a young adult LGBT contemporary about a guy in high school, and, from the description. Also - love, drama, family, and it's been getting pretty good reviews - we'll see.
Goodreads
Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
I'd seen this around a few times, before my random contemporary kick, but then I ended up looking into it after yet another glowing, five star review. It sounds interesting and there's music involved, but I haven't caved and bought it. Yet.
Goodreads
Falling into Place by Amy Zhang
This has also been getting good reviews, but it doesn't come out until September. It sounds - extremely sad, but also the description peaked my interest with a talk of an 'unexpected narrator' and the physics, apparently physics is now a weakness of mine or one of my buzz words/themes.
Goodreads
The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O'Brien
This sounds very interesting, also not out until September. Science Fiction, Dystopian - about a prestigious school where the lives of the students are televised.
Goodreads
Say Her Name by James Dawson
This plays off the urban legend of Bloody Mary, and I've read and watched a few things based on this and for some reason I kind of love it. And this sounds really good - horror, mystery.
Goodreads
Famous in Love by Rebecca Sterle
Okay this doesn't have the best reviews on goodreads, but I've read all of the normal person ends up dating famous person books and they're super addicting. Even though none of them are exactly what I want, This is What Happy Looks Like probably go the closest (the dealing with the paparazzi). So if you know of any, don't be shy, please, and let me know in the comments.
Goodreads
Harry's Last Stand: How the World My Generation Built is Falling Down, and What We Can Do to Save It by Harry Leslie Smith
I first heard about this from Leana at kissmyfrog (her YouTube channel, the specific video). It's an audiobiography and kind of a political essay, I think is a good way to describe it. I haven't read it, or even been able to buy it, but apparently it's very good - relevant and painfully truthful from what I've heard.

Adam by Ariel Schrag
I don't know much about this, I just saw a review from Judith on her blog PaperRiot (said review here). And it sounded really interesting - it's about a transgender character and apparently sex. And I've never read, or stumbled across, any books with a transgender main character, which is so awesome. But there might be one reason I don't get around to this book - and it isn't the talk about the sex scenes or anything - it's because his older sisters name is Casey, which is my name, and I just get so confused and tripped up reading books with characters with my name. It feels like such a silly reason to not read this book, but it's there.
I feel like I'm always discovering new books through so many different ways, and this is a good idea to remind myself of books I was really excited about, but also to share the books I've discovered. If you've heard of any of these or read them, please let me know in the comments.
But first off - these are from the last few weeks, I keep forgetting about this and then it's Friday again (how is it almost the middle of June already?). Anyway - books, let's talk about some books.
But first off - these are from the last few weeks, I keep forgetting about this and then it's Friday again (how is it almost the middle of June already?). Anyway - books, let's talk about some books.
Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman
This sounds super interesting, its historical and she's related to Hitler in someway and apparently something changes everything she's learned. And that's all I know, and I'm not really sure what this is about because I haven't looked at the full description anywhere. Still sounds amazing.
First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones
I know nothing about this book - except that the first three books on BookOutlet were super cheap and they had a good overall rating on Goodreads, sounding interesting, and have okay reviews by people I'm friends with. So for like two dollars a book, I'll give it a shot. I think reapers? I honestly can't remember, but I do really love the titles, not so much the covers.
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
So I don't know much about this book besides it's adult fiction, historical, and I think has already started winning awards? I've been hearing nothing but fantastic things and it does sound really good, it just came out in May, I think. So I might wait to get it in paperback, just because those adult hardcovers are expensive and I have so many books I need to be reading right now anyway.
Half a King by Joe Abercrombie
Haven't heard much so far, it's not out until mid-July, but I've heard amazing things about his adult books. And it's fantasy, high/epic fantasy, and people seem to be liking it. Added, don't know when I'll buy it / get around to it, though. But people whose opinions I trust have liked it so far.
Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld
I didn't know he was coming out with a new book until BEA and now everyone has copies of it. I will just have to wait - but it is huge and it sounds amazing and everything I've read by Westerfeld I've loved so far.
My Faire Lady by Laura Wettersten
This is kind of the odd book out of all of these, really, if you put all the covers side by side - you'd probably be like why is that one there? Well, because Laura is the LeakyCon RockStar liaison and I have been a RockStar all the years I've gone - and Laura is a fantastic person. I might have given it a try, anyway, just because I kind of really love the Renaissance Faire, and that is the setting for this.

Friday Finds (2)
I really like this idea as a meme, which is a meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. It's, basically, books you've discovered during the week, whether you've just added them to the never ending "to-read" shelf or if you've actually bought them. And these are the books I've discovered the last few weeks that I wanted to mention, since I did my first Friday Finds.
The Falconer by Elizabeth May
This sounds really good, I saw it in someones video and on Goodreads this week, and it just sounds - interesting. Edinburgh, 1844 sounds like a fantastic place, and there are apparently faeries. And that's all I know and that it came out on the 6th, I think, but I have no idea when I'll get to it.
Theft of Swords (The Riyria Revelations #1-2) by Michael J.Sullivan
Apparently these books are only currently printed in these two book bind up - but anyway. They sounds really interesting and cool. It's high fantasy, it sounds like it'll have kick-ass characters, I'm interested, but no idea when I'll pick up a copy or read it.
Deadly Class, Vol. 1: Reagan Youth by Rick Remender, Weasley Craig, Lee Longbridge
I've been hearing about this one as the issues come out and people seem to be really liking it, but I like these versions of comics better - a hand full or so of the volumes together. It sounds fucking awesome, so I'm on board, I'll probably love it.
What In God's Name by Simon Rich
This is an apparently hilarious book and it's about heaven and angels and them possibly ending the world, it doesn't sound like God's really paying attention. Basically it sounds amazing.
Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour
This is contemporary, and I very rarely read that genre, but it sounds really good. And it's got a bunch of hollywood/movie set stuff, apparently, and it's two girls, so it's different then just a run of the mill contemporary - and apparently everyone freaking loves it, so I'm willing to give it a shot.
There are a few others I've found these past few weeks, or rediscovered. I might have started using TheBookDepository again and I ended up buying a few books I'd forgotten that I'd wanted from there. (Also, resisting buying all the Penguin English Library editions, it's a hard battle, also the new bookmarks are gorgeous).

Friday Finds (1)
Friday Finds is a meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. It's all about books you've added to your to-read pile, either just by finding them or by physically (or electronically) purchasing them.
I find that I always find at least a handful of books that I want to read, so I thought I'd start doing this meme because it looks like a ton of fun, and it might help me remember how much I wanted to read books. I'm going to go into the last few weeks with this first post, and then stick to just the past week. All links go to the goodreads page of the book.
Books:
Written in Red by Anne Bishop
I've read the first book in her Black Jewels series, but haven't continued it yet even though I enjoyed it. And the premise of this one just sounds amazing. I just bought a physical copy of this one, so hopefully I can get to it soon.
The Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price
A friend on twitter recommended this to me when I asked for SciFi recs and I read the premise and oh man, oh man, it sounds amazing. It's really long, which is actually a good thing, so I'm probably going to get to this one really soon, I want to so badly.
Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos by R.L. LaFevers
I hadn't heard about this book, but I popped into a used/indie bookstore that's pretty close recently and saw the cover and went - that looks interesting and read the synopsis and ending up picking it up. There's a cat and a smart little girl and it looks like it'll have a lot of mythology and/or history worked in, so I'm excited.
Salvage by Alexandra Duncan
I've been in a huge SciFi kick this month and this one sounded interesting. It sounds like heavy SciFi with that grittier, more realistic future, with a teenage female protagonist and someone said it had feminist themes. Well - that sounds fun to me.
Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen
I hadn't heard about this book until a few people seemed to talk about it at once. It sounds really interesting. High fantasy, trolls, great character. I first heard about it from Misty(TheBookRat) on her YouTube channel, and it sounded like something I'd love.
Adam Christopher
He's a writer, obviously, and everyone's been praising his newest book The Burning Dark, which sounds pretty freaking fantastic. His other book Empire State sounds like something I'd also really enjoy, so I'm excited to check both out when I get the chance. I mean, they're SciFi, so hopefully before this random, intense SciFi craving/kick ends.
So what books have you discovered recently? Or do you do Friday Finds? Tell me in the comments or link me to your post so I can check it out!
