The End! Bout of Books 7.0 Read-A-Thon Wrap-Up

And it is the end of the last day and I'm sad to see this week go. The read-a-thon was truly great and it was fun and I got more reading done then I thought I would, honestly.

First, let's just go over the stats for this final day of the read-a-thon (and just the stats for today):

Number of books I've read today:

Books:
Amulet Vol. 1: The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi
Amulet Bol. 2: The Stonekeeper's Curse by Kazu Kibuishi
Disney in Shadow (Kingdom Keepers #3) by Ridley Pearson

Number of pages read/listened to(today): 956

Notes:
I had a 'dream goal' kind of today, and when I hit it - shockingly - I decided that I could take a break, and that was pretty much the end of the read-a-thon for me. I needed a break, anyway, so it was probably for the best, I felt like I'd been reading much too long. (If I had book four of the Kingdom Keepers, though, I probably would of continued. Or volume three of Amulet).

And now, this is the stats for the whole read-a-thon, the total number of pages and books read, of audio listened to, a list of the books I read. And my thoughts/musings on the read-a-thon. Here we go:

Total Number of Books: 19

Pages Read: 4,047

Audio Listened To: 3 hours, 30 minutes

Books:

George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupèry
The Field Guide (Spiderwick Chronicles #1) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi
The Seeing Stone (Spiderwick Chronicles #2) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi
Lucinda's Secret (Spiderwick Chronicles #3) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi
The Iron Woodtree (Spiderwick Chronicles #4) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi
This is Water by David Foster Walace (the 30min audiobook)
The Wrath of Mulgarath (Spiderwick Chronicles #5) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi
The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia #3) by C.S. Lewis
Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1) by Ridley Pearson
The Tempest by Shakespeare
Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick
Witness in Death (In Death #10) by J.D. Robb
Bake Sale by Sara Varon
Disney at Dawn (Kingdom Keepers #2) by Ridley Pearson
Bioshock Infinite: Mind in Revolt by Joe Fielder
Amulet Vol. 1: The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi
Amulet Bol. 2: The Stonekeeper's Curse by Kazu Kibuishi
Disney in Shadow (Kingdom Keepers #3) by Ridley Pearson

Notes (thoughts and musings):

This is the best I have ever done during a read-a-thon, and probably the best I ever will do during a read-a-thon. I was pretty much done with school, so I just had some wrap-up things to do. (Next week I've got to send in all the paperwork). And I'd really like to keep up, maybe not this extreme, but a fast reading pace because there's a bunch of books I want to try to get through before BEA. Which I am going to. Very last minute and thinking about it too much makes me almost have a panic attack so back to read-a-thon talk.

I hope that if you participated that you had an awesome time. And read some great, if not fantastic, books. I'm really happy to have started and finished the Spiderwick Chronicles, which I've been reading to read for ever and ever. And having read Wonderstruck, which was an amazing book and made me tear up at points. And how I started the Kingdom Keepers series, which I am very excited to finish! So many amazing books I read this week and series that I hope to continue.

I was going to read one more book, to make it an even twenty, but my brain just cannot take it right now, complete mush from this awesome but insane week, sadly.

If you participated and just posted a wrap-up, feel free to leave me a link in the comments, I've been loving all the update posts I've been reading and videos I've been watching. Happy reading!

Read-A-Thon Day Six Wrap-Up (Bout of Books 7.0)

Today might have been the least reading I've gotten done all week, well, it feels like it. And I'm pretty sure it's true. Anyway, I did get some reading done today. And finished two things, a book and a novella/short story. And onto the actually stats!

Number of books I've read today: 2

Total number of books I've read: 16

Books:
Disney at Dawn (Kingdom Keepers #2) by Ridley Pearson
Bioshock Infinite: Mind in Revolt by Joe Fielder

Books currently-reading:
Haven't really started anything, but have my "start next" books, which are Judgment in Death and book three of Kingdom Keepers.

Number of pages read/listened to(today and total): 221 and no audio
Total: 3,091, same as before (3hrs, 30mins)

Notes:
I was out most of the day, so I sadly didn't get too much reading done, but I did get a book. I finished Disney at Dawn pretty early in the day and it was really good, I'm planning on reading at least some of book three tomorrow.

Also Mind in Revolt was very short but also very good, I'd really like to learn more. Bioshock is one of my favorite games of all time, and Infinite was amazing in it's own right, so freaking good, such a good story. Anyway, though, Books.

I don't know anything to do but read, so I'm hoping I can get a lot done. Sadly it is the last time. This week has flown by, I hope I get back to it! Also, I had set my reading goal for 50 books this year, and I'm already at 49, so I'm assuming I'll hit it and maybe go over it tomorrow.

Read-A-Thon Day Five Wrap-Up (Bout of Books 7.0)

So today wasn't the most productive day of the read-a-thon, but I had some relaxing time (and we played some video games, the opposite of relaxing, but still). I did get some reading done, but hopefully more tomorrow and Sunday.

Number of books I've read today: 1

Total number of books I've read: 14

Books:
Bake Sale by Sara Varon

Books currently-reading:
Disney at Dawn (Kingdom Keepers #2) by Ridley Pearson (49% finished)

Number of pages read/listened to(today and total): 346 pages, no audio
Total: 2,870 and audio is the same

Notes:
Not really much to say. Bake Sale was cute and took me, maybe, half an hour to read, but it didn't really have a plot, things were just there. Anyway, I'm really ending book two of the Kingdom Keepers series so far, going to try and read a little more before I go to sleep, probably.

Hope all your days were good, if not also good on the reading front. Happy reading!

Read-A-Thon Day Four Wrap-Up (Bout of Books 7.0)

I had a lot of cleaning to do (friend sleeping over tomorrow and just spring cleaning) and I'm trying to move my books around so I can put in another bookcase, because they're just everywhere. Anyway, onto the actually reading that happened. Here we go with the stats for day four of this lovely read-a-thon.

Number of books I've read today: 1

Total number of books I've read: 13

Books:
Witness in Death (In Death #10) by J.D. Robb

Books currently-reading:
Haven't had the time to start up my next book, that's for tomorrow morning, I guess.

Number of pages read/listened to(today and total): 305 pages, no audio
Total: 2,524 and audio is the same

Notes:

I'm glad I finished one book, at the very least. It's been a crazy couple days with this read-a-thon. Awesome, but crazy. And hanging-out with Haley tomorrow (getting her super early) hopefully I'll get some reading done.

Kind of a short post, as you can see. Sadly, I can't think of much else to say as of now. I hope your day is awesome and that you get some reading done.

Read-A-Thon Day Three Wrap-Up (Bout of Books 7.0)

Whew! Okay, I feel like I've been reading for the last 72 hours straight, besides the time I've spent on school. I haven't spent anytime on Tumblr and have watch one or two videos on YouTube (I'm so out of the loop and behind). Anyway, totally worth it to be getting so much reading done!

Number of books I've read today: 2

Total number of books I've read: 12

Books:
The Tempest by Shakespeare
Wonderstruck by Brain Selznick

Books currently-reading:
Haven't started anything new yet! Took a break after finished what I read.

Number of pages read/listened to(today and total): 837 pages, no audion listened to today
Total: 2,220 pages / 3hrs 30mins

Notes:
I was just organizing some of my books when I stumbled across Wonderstruck and - kind of ended up sitting down and reading it through. Which is feat, because that book has to weigh more then any other book I own, it's so hard to hold, even balanced on my legs. Totally worth it, though, amazing book! I really want to write up a full review of it.

Kind of a short wrap-up today since I was exhausted after yesterday (the reading AND Supernatural finale), but there isn't really anything else I can thing of to say. I hope your reading was good today, and if you are feeling a little discouraged, tomorrow is another day!

The Tempest was good, too, I finished it surprisingly quick (as I was interrupted by a certain bunny who wanted to play and be petted, but that's alright. She's cute). It was weird but I've started to expect that from Shakespeare.

Read-A-Thon Day Two Wrap-Up (Bout of Books 7.0)

Day two! I hope you all are going strong and having fun! Anyway, onto the reading stats from yesterday. I am liking posting the day after, it's easier then stressing about getting it posted before I go to sleep. I didn't get nearly as much read, in terms of number of books, as yesterday, because I feel like I woke up with a reading hangover. Anyway, onto the books!

Number of books I've read today: 2

Books currently-reading:
Still with those two book from yesterday and not any farther in them.

Total number of books I've read: 10

Books:
The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia #3) by C.S. Lewis
Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1) by Ridley Pearson

Number of pages read/time listened to(today and total): 566 pages and listened to about 2hrs
Total: 1,383 pages, 3hrs 30mins

Notes:
I had been putting off reading The Horse and His Boy because I'd heard it kind of dragged and it did a bit at the beginning, but it was still really enjoyable. I'm still not really sure how I feel about the Narnia books yet (I'm reading in chronological order, not published, so this is only my third), enjoying them overall, so far, I guess.

And I wasn't sure what to read next, but I knew I was craving kids adventure so I went on a hunt for the first Kingdom Keepers book, I knew it was somewhere. And I found it! I bought this over a year ago now, while at Disney, and I'm so glad I didn't read it then, because having just been to all the parks in February, I feel like I can enjoy this series more.

Monday Kick-Off Post
Day One Wrap-Up

WWW Wednesday (15)

Ah, my favorite meme. Kind of like a wrap-up but in more detail, just full on information on what I am reading, what I finished reading, and what I might read next! WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. She asks that you answer three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

Currently-Reading:
I'm very, very little into the next books in the Anita Black and In Death series, but kind of stalled in both, at barely 30 pages.

Read:
Midnight in Death (In Death #7.5) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
Might have missed this in my read through of this series, but I didn't get very far before I caught it, it was really good, just a Novella type of thing, I'm pretty sure only available in ebook, but it was really good.

Loyalty in Death (In Death #9) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
This one was also very good. I'm getting so far in this series, that's all I want to say so I don't accidentally give anything away!

Hamlet by William Shakespeare (5/5)
Technically for school, but I did read it all the way through before having to write things about it and I really enjoyed it.

A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare (5/5)
Very good, I really liked this one, probably because of the mischievous faeries. I know it was probably them.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (5/5)
This book was fantastic and amazing! If you haven't picked it up yet, you definitely should. It's amazing, the writing is my favorite part and the characters are amazing.

Aesop's Fable by Aesop (5/5)
This was really good. Really enjoyed it.

George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl (4/5)
This was good, but - I don't know, it sat weird with me. Maybe I read it to early in the day for magic medicine? Whose to know.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupèry (5/5)
An amazing book. I read it in English, but I hope to eventually read it in French. Either way, beautiful and heartbreaking.

The Field Guide (Spiderwick Chronicles #1) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
Fantastic first book to this series. I listened to it in audio format and - it just wasn't for me, the weird voice and stuff, shook me out of the story. However, the book itself is amazing, glad I gave it a second chance.

The Seeing Stone (Spiderwick Chronicles #2) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
Loved this one, too! A further look into the fairy lore of this world.

Lucinda's Secret (Spiderwick Chronicles #3) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
A little more information in this one. These are so short, but at least I had the thing of them or I would of been dying for more.

The Iron Woodtree (Spiderwick Chronicles #4) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
I liked this one, too, obviously I'm trying to say as little as possible to not spoil anyone. Love this series, though!

This is Water by David Foster Walace (the 30min audiobook) (5/5)
I'd seen a video, featuring audio from this and was instantly intrigued and had to know what i meant, so I picked it up off Audible for about $4. There's a physical, dead tree version, that is much longer, but it's not coming in the mail for a while. I'd recommend this to everyone.

The Wrath of Mulgarath (Spiderwick Chronicles #5) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi
Such a fantastic end to the series! So glad this one was longer, was feeling like there was no way they could give us all the story in one more book. Very, very good.

The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia #3) by C.S. Lewis (4/5)
Actually enjoyed this one. A bit slow at first and dragged a bit at the end, but otherwise good.

Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1) by Ridley Pearson (5/5)
Ah! Can't wait to read more in this series. This one was really, really good. I could barely put it down! Recommended to those who even remotely like Disney or wondered what happens in the park after dark. Very good.

To-Read:
I've got book two of the Kingdom Keeper's series that I'm dying to read, so excited for more of this series. I'm pretty much surrounded by books right now because of the read-a-thon. I scheduled this before it started and had to just add ten more books to it. Ten. (What read-a-thon, you ask? Monday kick-off post and day one wrap-up)

Read-A-Thon: Day One Wrap-Up (Bout of Books 7.0)

This was the first day of the read-a-thon! I've decided to post the day after instead of trying to get it up before I go to sleep, because that sounds stressful. (If you have no idea what this read-a-thon is, you can check out my post about it or go directly to the Bout of Books blog).

And if you want to keep up with my reading updates you can follow me on Twitter (there are also tweets about cute things my bunny does) or friend me on Goodreads! I hope you all had a good first day of reading.

Number of books I've read today:

Total number of books read: 8

Books currently-reading:
Burnt Offerings (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #7) by Laurell K. Hamilton
Witness in Death (In Death #10) by J.D. Robb

Number of pages read/time listened to(today and total): 817 pages / about 1h 30m of audio

Notes:
I got off to a good start! I was kind of surprised, actually. I was reading pretty short books, but I'd been wanting to read them and I thought during a read-a-thon would be the best time. Especially to possibly reread some Roald Dahl, because I haven't read any of his books since I was little, and I don't know if I've ever read George's Marvelous Medicine.

I severely doubt that I can keep up this pace, especially with school work and everything else, but I'm going to try to finish at least one book a day, try being the word. On Friday I have plans so that will probably be a little reading day.

Also, most of these wre extremely short, the first four Spidewick Chronicle books are barely over 100 pages, but I've been wanting to read the series and so on. The point being, I'll be surprised if I read more then one book a day the rest of the week and that's fine, because this was ridiculous. (This also brought me to 41 out of the 50 books that was my reading challenge for the year. So. There's that.

Read-A-Thon starts Today!

Yay. Read-a-thon starts today! I thought I'd tell you how this is going to work. I'm going to post an update on the day after. So today there is not going to any reading related updates here. Everyone on the same page? However you can follow me on Twitter or friend me on Goodreads to see what I'm up to.

If you're taking part comment so I can check out your goals/posts/such. Read-a-thons are tons of fun! So, I'm just going to repost my goals and possible books to read this week (and add books maybe). To sum up my goals, though, I just want to read as many books as I can this week, and that's kind of it. I'm going to try and not stress out about it, though, because reading is suppose to be fun.

FROM THIS POST:

I love read-a-thons, even if I can't participate, but I can for this one, which is even better. This is my announcement post for the Bout of Books read-a-thon that's taking place from May 13th to the 19th, as I know you can probably see from the title. I've taken part in this read-a-thon before and I really enjoyed it.

I don't work so I just have to balance school (and writing) as I read. I have a huge number of books that are unread in my house, so many books. Also, my kindle, which I got recently, has many books that I have yet to read. I feel a little rusty on blogging so hopefully this will bring me back into it, and have books to review.

Anyway, if you want to sign up for this read-a-thon, too. Here is the official blurb from the blog:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 7.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog.
- From the Bout of Books team

I hope you join up with it, too! Reading books! If you are leave me a comment and I can check out your read-a-thon posts.

Now, I don't really know what I'll be reading, but I have some books that I would like to read during the month. I thought I'd add a list of them on the bottom here so if I don't know what to pick up next, I can look here. The top three are just books from the series. I bought a boxset of the Spiderwick Chronicles and have yet to get around to them, and they're very short and will be nice breaks between the others, or I can just sit down and read them all.

  • Anita Blake or In Death books
  • Narnia books
  • Spiderwick Chronicles
  • The Great Gatsby
  • Hyperion by Dan Simmons
  • The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey

My main goals are just to read as many books as I can, I don't really have any particular books I want to read, but it would be nice to get a lot read. I would love to take part in some of the challenges, but I don't know if I will. I don't have many 2013 reading goals, as it is, so read-a-thons are always fun.

Book Review: Ready Player One

Title: Ready Player One
Author: Ernest Cline
Genre: SciFi/Fantasy, Dystopian
Rating: 5/5
Publication Date: August 16th, 2011

Story Notion: Why is this just ONE BOOK? Why can't there be a whole series about everything ever? This world is amazing.

Plot Summary: (From Goodreads)

It's the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets.

And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune--and remarkable power--to whoever can unlock them.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday's riddles are based in the pop culture he loved--that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday's icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes's oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.

And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.

Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt--among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life--and love--in the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

A world at stake.
A quest for the ultimate prize.
Are you ready?

Review:
This book is amazing, breathtaking and stunning, and has a world that I would love to live in. I guess, more like the virtual world of the OASIS, the actual world doesn't seem that great. The characters in this book are fantastic and the plot and just everything in this book is fantastic. And I should stop using that world, but I'm just so flail-y about this book, I can't help it. The writing and how he can make you see exactly how everything would work is one of the main reasons I love this book so much and why I'd want to live in it because you can just visualize everything so well.

A friend, Haley, actually took the book off my shelf handed it to me and made me start reading it in the middle of March (our sleepovers are very interesting obviously), and I knew immediately that It was going to be a new favorite and I already didn't want it to end.

This book is full of '80's trivia. Full. And not just things that normal people would know, but also random stuff like cereal commercials from the time. It's a huge part of the plot, though, and almost one of my favorite parts. Before I start to just ramble about the amazingness of this book (rambling about it more), I think I'll try and wrap it up.

Overall, I think you should read this book. Even if you're just a casual gamer or if you know nothing about the 1980's, because it's such an amazing book with complex world and amazing writing. I have a feeling this will be the book that I'll be forcing on people for a long time, it was truly an amazing book and I'm glad that someone forced it on me.

April Wrap-Up / May TBR

April Wrap-Up! The month started out very well and then I started writing way too many words a day and doing school work and reading fell to the back burner again, sadly. However, I did get some books read before that took over:

  • Rapture in Death (In Death #4) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
  • The Killing Dance (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton (4/5)
  • Ceremony in Death (In Death #5) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
  • Vengeance in Death (In Death #6) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
  • Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders by Neil Gaiman (5/5)
  • Holiday in Death (In Death #7) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
  • Conspiracy in Death (In Death #8) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
  • Midnight in Death (In Death #7.5) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
  • Loyalty in Death (In Death #9) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
And in May I'm planning to, hopefully, get some reading gone. I have two books clubs that I'm going to try and read the main (and one has an alternate pick, too). And then I have some Shakespeare for school to read and some poems and such. And probably more In Death books if I can fit them in, hopefully Anita Blake ones, too. I heard that Anita Blake declines in quality but that, also, Obsidian Butterfly is one of the best, so I'm looking forward to that.

Also, last but not least, sorry for dropping off the blogging planet a bit there, just - school work and writing kind of took over my life.

What did you read in April? And what are you planning to read in May?
