Horror/Scary/Thriller Books I Haven't Read Yet

I got into the horror genre very young, probably too young, but I was interested and it was amazing. I read a lot of genres, though, and I kind of read/love most genres, which sounds ridiculous but I can't think of any genres I don't like or haven't, at the very least, tried. And, while making the two book recommendation posts I just did (Scary Books for Beginners & Horror/Scary Books for Halloween) I realized that I hadn't read as much as I thought I had.

I'm trying to read more horror/thriller (or just plain creepy/weird) books, because at some point I'd forgotten how much I ten to actually enjoy these books. I don't know why, I know a lot of people don't, but I just adore them.

Some of these, I'm not expecting to be incredible, but I still will be fun (also, I'm writing this towards the beginning of the month, ideally I will rad some of these during the month).

Authors:

H.P. Lovecraft
A person, not a specific book, but most of his fiction is short. I'd most like to read all of the stuff in his Cthulu Mythos, but I'd like to read at least some of his work, if not all of it.

Stephen King
There are a lot of his books I haven't read, unsurprising considering how many there are, but some very big ones I haven't: The Shining, The Green Mile, The Stand. I'd really like to read those, but also: Insomnia, Misery, 11/22/63, rest of The Dark Tower series, Under The Dome, The Dead Zone, Cell, Thinner, and more. And also I'd like to reread some, maybe because I don't remember them very clearly or just because I love them: Carrie, Pet Semetery (don't remember either very clearly), IT (I kind of reread this almost once a year, love it), Duma Key (kind of same as IT), Bag of Bones, Dreamcatcher (it's been a few years for both of these, but I want to reread soon).

Dean Koontz
I haven't read a single book, which feel weird, because he's a very large name in horror. But I've also never known where to start - but I think I might start with Intensity or Phamtoms, I don't have it yet, but it'll think that'll be there. Opinions?

Books:

• Horns by Joe Hill - I haven't read anything by Joe Hill yets, and considering the movie coming out (or is out, with Daniel Radcliff). So I guess this is a good place to start.
• The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancy - I really want to read this first book, and probably the rest of the series. It looks fantastic, and I've heard good things.
• The Marbury Lens by Andrew Smith - I haven't read anything by this author yet (by any of these guys yet, actually), and I've heard mixed reviews about this one but I think I'm really going to like it. 
• We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson - I remember, vaguely, reading The Lottery in middle school, but not enough to remember what happened. And this looks amazing, a lot of her stuff looks strange, weird. Also - The Haunting of Hill House.
• The Phantom of the Opera
• Dracula
• American Psycho (classic, both this and the above two - I'm excited for all, I just haven't done it. I did try to read Dracula in 7th grade but the journal/letter whatever through me off).
• Carmilla (lesbian vampires, that's what brought this onto my radar. Don't you want to read it now? it's a classic novella - with lesbian vampires. RonLit did a video about it, she convinced me).
• The Yellow Wallpaper 
• Abbadon's Gate (and other in the Leviathan series, I hadn't thought about how these were horror until I started researching for my recommendation posts
• Horrorstor (this just came out, and it's been some hype, but it looks awesome)
• Sleepless (I haven't heard much about this, but it's really short and has a great cover)
• The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes (I actually started this and I'm loving it way more then I thought I would)
• Unwind Series (I'm stunned I haven't read this series yet, because it sounds right down my alley. And also the covers are all awesome).
• The Forest of Hands and Teeth series (this series has been complete and out for a while now, and I still haven't even started it).
• Razorland series (I have the first book and I've had it for years, but I've always wavered about reading it, but I have liked everything else I've read by Ann Aguirre).
• Jasper Dent series (This book series sounds awesome, from what I've heard, people seem to love it. And the books are awesome, mostly under the jacket...)
• The Madman's Daughter series (This sounds... interesting, and I've heard middle things)
• Feed series (Adult zombie stuff, it sounds fun)

What scary books are on your TBR? I'm sure I missed some on my own list, but which one are you most excited for? And are you planning on reading any this month?

September 2014 TBR

I'm not really sure, for September, what I'm going to be reading or if I'll be reading a lot just because of what I'd like to read. However - I'm also a total mood reader, as you probably know if you've seen any of my posts, so it all depends on that. There aren't any read-a-thons this month, at least that I know of yet, so I might take the month to reread The Way of Kings and such - I'd like to finish The Final Empire. It might be my Sanderson month.

I'd also like to read The Raven Boys and, probably, The Dream Thieves because the third book comes out at the end of October and while it's going to be a four book series (I believe), I'd still like to catch up because I've heard pretty much all good, if not great. Also there's a read-a-long/thon type thing happening for it hosted by Books of Amber & Readers in Wonderland - both direct links to the read-a-long posts - and it sounds like fun to read-a-long with everyone.

I'll definitely read more then that, at least I hope so, but at the moment I've no idea what that might be. The Sims 4 does come out at the very beginning of the month, so we'll see how that and no read-a-thon hinder my reading for the month, I guess. I am just currently looking around me and I'm literally surrounded by books I want to / need to read, pretty much all of them are books I've been dying to get to and just haven't had the time to yet.

• Otherbound by Corrinne Duyvis
• More Than This by Patrick Ness (Oh, and Monsters of Men)
• Sin City graphic novels (I have 1 - 4, but I might save them for a read-a-thon. Specifically Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon in October).
• There's a ton of books in this box from a BookOutlet order (there was that $20 off thing or whatever - I couldn't refuse!
• The Half-Made World by Felix Gilman (I've started this, just barely, but it already seems incredible - such a different, unique world and it has an surprisingly few number of reviews on Goodreads).
• Finish some of my longstanding currently-reading books. The Queen of the Tearling? Hello? I've been reading this book for months and months now, since like a month or something before it released. This book is amazing and fantastic, I don't know why I haven't finished it yet.
• I've been feeling really in a classics / 'literary fiction' type of mood the last few days - so maybe I'll get around to a classic or whatever or two.

Friday Finds (5)

I really like this idea as a meme, which is a meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. It's, basically, books you've discovered during the week, whether you've just added them to the never ending "to-read" list (or shelf on Goodreads, as I do) or if you've actually bought them.

I haven't done this in a while, and I add to the post as I find things, and it was just Bout of Books and I always add a ton of books to my TBR - so this is going to be a long one.

Skulduggery Pleasant (Skulduggery Pleasant #1) by Derek Landy, Tom Percival
I'd heard about this before, at some point. But then it was mentioned in one of the forums in one of the Goodreads groups I'm a part of and lurk around at points - and it sounded really good, and I hadn't added it as 'to read' so maybe I haven't heard of it before and something in my brain is making the wrong connection. Goodreads

Backward Compatible: A Geek Love Story by Sarah Daltry, Pete Clark
This sounds kind of ridiculously adorable. And that's all I can remember from the little plot summer on goodreads.

Dissonance (Disonnance #1) by Erica O'Rourke
This one isn't out yet but is a young adult science fiction novel based on one of my many, many slight obsessions (that started with SG-1): parallel universes and that every small thing creates another one. And someone on my goodreads feed was reading it and fangirling over the world builidng and now I need it. It's not out quite yet, I don't think, but it sounds so freaking good. Goodreads

How to Build a Girl by Caitlin Moran
I've heard about her other book, How to Be a Women, and I bought it off BookOutlet but I've never felt the need to read it. This one, though, for whatever reason (maybe because it's fiction, or because I watched a video interview with her about it), sounds really amazing. (Also - that cover. Do you see that cover). Gates of Thread and Stone (Gates of Thread and Stone #1) by Lori M. Lee
I don't know much about this one besides there's a labrinth, it's YA fantasy, and it got pretty good ratings from a few people I'm friends with on Goodreads. I don't need a lot of convincing about any fantasy book. Goodreads

Ticker by Lisa Mantchev
Steampunk - a girl with a clockwork heart. The cover is the first thing that drew me in, but also steampunk, I'm a sucker for it, and this sounds really good. Goodreads

Sin City, Vol. 1: The Hard Goodbye by Frank Miller
Can we just - talk about the covers of these graphic novels? I got this in the mail yesterday and holy hell it's gorgeous. I'm not sure why I like it so much, but - seriously it's gorgeous, I can't wait to get to it (does anyone else horde graphic novels for read-a-thons?) Goodreads

Seconds by Brian Lee O'Malley
I've never read his highly popular graphic novel series - but this looks awesome. The cover, first off, is bright as hell and if you take off the jacket - it's so cool. I have refrained from buying this so far, but I know it's probably only a matter of time. Goodreads

The Girl of Fire and Thorn Stories by Rae Carson
So I bought the first book in this YA Fantasy series when it first came out - and then never read it. Lately, though, I've been hearing amazing things about it and, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the last book just come out? These are prequel short stories, I might be a sucker for prequel short stories. I want to read the first book and know I'm going to like it before I binge buy the rest of the series, though. Emilie and the Hollow World (Emilie #1) by Martha Wells
I've seen this book a few times, but I finally actually looked into it. And it sounds really good and the cover is gorgeous and Strange Chemistry, sadly, has just been closed by Angry Robot and I decided to buy some of their books (also I'm assuming their titles will be going out of print? Better safe then sorry). Goodreads

Firelight (Darkest London #1) by Kristen Callahan
I've heard good things - this is one of the books I discovered during Bout of Books - and it sounds really good. Goodreads

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1) by Jeanienne Frost
This sounds fun. It's Urban Fantasy with romance and those are always fun, people I'm friends with on GR's (I judge a lot by this, can you tell?) seem to really like it and it has a 4.22 average rating on Goodreads.

The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta
So there's that show that's based on this book and the show, what I've seen, is weird and really good. It's getting mixed reviews and, at least I think, because the characters aren't really likable, at least a good percentage of them and it's strange. I want to read the book, though, because that's how this works.  Goodreads

Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey
I still don't know how I feel about "New Adult" as a genre (it's mostly just romance with high school/college characters, I don't get why it's a separate genre but anyway), but this sounds fun? I don't know if I'll buy it, but I try and check it out somewhere. Goodreads

Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky
This sounds really interesting - it's about a twelve year old kid who feels like a girl and the struggles faced with that and such. It sounds amazing, but sadly it doesn't come out until November. Still - sounds incredible, and I've only seen one person talk about it, but they really liked it. Goodreads

I Want It That Way by Ann Aguirre
First - she's had two books come out in the same month. That's just - ridiculous. And I really enjoyed Mortal Danger and this one sounds completely different and interesting. It's contemporary romance with a college girl and a single dad - it sounds cute. Goodreads

Splintered (Splintered #1) by A.G. Howard
I've seen this around - how can you not with that cover - and I finally really looked into it and it sounds strange and amazing. Sounds fairy tale-esque. Basically I'm sold, I just have to get my hands on it. Goodreads

Whew - and that is that. I really enjoy this meme, especially going around to see what others are discovering, but it makes me go back and then want the books more. Ah well.

March 2014 TBR

I normally end up not sticking completely to these, though I did last month if you don't count the random books I listed at the end.

I finished both Vampire Academy by Richelle Meade and A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Quin. Which were two of the books that were on my main, knew/had to read list. I didn't end up finishing House of Leaves, but I'm really enjoying taking it so slow that I'm not upset about it. It's so good and it might take me a while to finish, but I'm adoring it so far. (There's also an article I ran across, called: How Not To Read House of Leaves. Which I thought was a really cool and interesting little thing, if you're thinking of giving the book a shot, but it scared you). Now - onto the actual TBR for the month of March.

There's books I'm currently reading, like House of Leaves. I'm hoping to finish them in March, probably not HoL just because whew. So I actually have a pretty good idea of what I could be reading this month.

A Way of Kings: Part One by Brandon Sanderson
The reason I'm reading the parts version of this book, well, there's various reason. One: have you tried to hold that whole thing? Jesus, I don't recommend it. Two: Less daunting/scary. Three: Pretty. Covers. All the UK covers are gorgeous for Sanderson's books while all the US ones are the normal weird as hell high fantasy covers. Anyway - I'm currently-reading this one and am about 25% into it and completely loving it so far, it's so interesting, but also one I'm taking slow.

Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Meade
Just - cause, I want to continue this series. It's - light but interesting, I fly through this books. I might end up picking up the rest through the month, breaks and filler between the ridiculous amount of books that I'm taking slowly.

Princesses Behaving Badly by Linda Rodriguez McRobbie
I'm loving this book so far, currently-reading, and am about 35% through, and hoping to finish it this month. Not as fast moving as others, but it's also definitely not dry as far as history goes (and I'm a sucker for history, anyway).

Paradox by Jim Al-Khalili
This is a non-fiction book about paradoxes in physics by a quantum physicist. I'm not very far into this, almost 40 pages, but am currently really loving it. It's very interesting and extremely easy to understand, and I really like the guys matter of fact voice.

The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
This is for the BookTuber Reading Buddies book club. I haven't started it yet, but I've been meaning to read it for years at this point, and I know that I'm going to completely adore it. They're also reading the first Mistborn series, but I am already reading a Sanderson book. I have Mistborn and I want to read it so badly (definitely check out that link and the group, though! Cool people there).

And besides that, I'm not really sure yet. Like I said, I might pick up more of the Vampire Academy series besides the slow cookers. Otherwise, I'm surrounded by good books I've been dying to read, so I'l probably just pick up whatever strikes my mood, which is why I read so many books at one time.

Top Ten Tuesday?

Oh uh hello there? Yes i realize i have not posted in forever and so that is why i am here now. I have given up on NaNoWriMo and school is slowing down a bit so i decided to come back to this old thing here. I have not read much lately because of NaNoWriMo but in the past two days i have read three books so reviews by me should hopefully be coming soon. I know Casey has some kind of schedule going on but to be honest i forget what it is. :P I decided today instead of writing a review for you all i would do a weekly meme called "Top Ten Tuesday" which was created by The Broke and the Bookish . This weeks list is:

Top Ten Books on my To be Read list this Winter:

1. Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle: I have been meaning to read this book for forever. I have just been waiting for snow so i can curl up and read it like it was meant to be read.

2. Goliath by Scott Westerfeld: The last book in the Leviathan trilogy has been on my mind since i finished Behemoth but i just have no had time to start it. I love this series though so i am super excited to see how Westerfeld ties everything up.

3. Gone by Micheal Grant: This is series i have been meaning to read since i first saw it in the bookstores. I have heard many amazing things about the books yet for some reason i still have not picked it up and started reading it.

4. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin: I have been hearing about this book since BEA last year and every since then i have wanted to read it. The plot entrances me yet i still have not picked it up off my bookshelf for some reason.

5. Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin: I think the only reason why i have no picked up this book to read yet is because the size of it intimadates me and the words are so tiny. The plot sounds so intriguing yet it just looks so long and scary :P

6. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick: I remember the first time Casey picked this up in the bookstore because she thought the cover was pretty. She keeps telling me that i need to read it i just have WAY too many books to read so hopefully i will get to this one this month

7. Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare: This is a book i am so excited to get this winter. Cassandra Clare is just an amazing story teller and her books always tend to surprise me.

8. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger: Every other english class last year got to read this book except mine. My teacher did not like the book so we did not get to read it. I have always wanted to read this book though i just have no had the courage to dive into it yet.

9. Elixir by Hilary Duff: This book i picked up just because it was written by Hilary Duff and she was pretty much my hero when i was younger and i am just really curious if she is actually a good writer.

10. The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler: This plot just sounds brilliant and i need this book and my hands right now. I have heard only amazing things about this book and i can not wait to read it.
