September 2015 | TBR

I haven't done a monthly TBR in a while but I think it's a good month to do. I hope to get a lot of reading done this month - like a ridiculous amount - but for this TBR I'm just going to put some vague plans, not too many things. If I put too many, I'll just stop reading and definitely won't read anything from the TBR, I'm learning.

Now I did a video - that'll be embedded at the bottom - that's just talking in video format about what I'm planning to read. The first thing going on is that some people in the BookTube community have created something called #BookishSeptember, which is basically just a mixture of a read-a-thon with challenges and just dedicating the month to books and reading, which is something I can get behind (and I'm a sucker for reading challenges).

Mostly my plan is to just read as much as I can without letting too many other things fall by the wayside. I want to get really back into blogging, I'm actually feeling like writing reviews and talking to people which is a good sign, and try and post one view a week on my YouTube channel and maybe try and film a review, maybe a few short reviews and see how it goes? My plans are kind of vague.

Now - onto the books! And the challenges for this bookish thing. The first one is to reread a favorite and I have three possibilities - I love rereading things, so I'm surprised I stopped at three - but right now I'm going to pick from rereading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater (Casey, didn't you read that in November and then again in December? Yes, yes I did. But I want to get to Blue Lily, Lily Blue), The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson (which I've been thinking about recently and want to reread the original mistborn series before continuing on), and The Storm of the Century (the screenplay by Stephen King. I found it in this move, I hadn't really lost it but it was buried slightly, and it's been a few years).

The next challenge is a recently purchased on and I think I'm going with Hounded by Kevin Hearne. And then for favorite genre - fantasy - I'm going to read probably both of there, hopefully: Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater and A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab. Beautiful cover is going to have to be Uprooted by Naomi Novik (UK cover, it's in my video, check it out, it's gorgeous).

And then the last three are a book you know nothing about (I think I'm going with a graphic novel called War Fix), a book with a darker theme (I mentioned some horror in my video and I think I'll stick to that, both books go pretty dark Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King and Caliban's War by James S.A. Corey, the second being a reread), and finally just a book you want to read.

I have slight plans to try and get to Runaways: The Complete Collection, Volume Two and Phonogram, Volume 2: The Singles Club along with maybe, finally Monsters of Men and a few others, but that's all I'm going to mention here.

I'd love to hear what you're planning on reading soon or this month. And, also, if you've ready of the books I'm planning on reading and what you out thought of them.

Have a good (bookish) September!

September 2014 TBR

I'm not really sure, for September, what I'm going to be reading or if I'll be reading a lot just because of what I'd like to read. However - I'm also a total mood reader, as you probably know if you've seen any of my posts, so it all depends on that. There aren't any read-a-thons this month, at least that I know of yet, so I might take the month to reread The Way of Kings and such - I'd like to finish The Final Empire. It might be my Sanderson month.

I'd also like to read The Raven Boys and, probably, The Dream Thieves because the third book comes out at the end of October and while it's going to be a four book series (I believe), I'd still like to catch up because I've heard pretty much all good, if not great. Also there's a read-a-long/thon type thing happening for it hosted by Books of Amber & Readers in Wonderland - both direct links to the read-a-long posts - and it sounds like fun to read-a-long with everyone.

I'll definitely read more then that, at least I hope so, but at the moment I've no idea what that might be. The Sims 4 does come out at the very beginning of the month, so we'll see how that and no read-a-thon hinder my reading for the month, I guess. I am just currently looking around me and I'm literally surrounded by books I want to / need to read, pretty much all of them are books I've been dying to get to and just haven't had the time to yet.

For example, I could read/do all this (no guarentees, obviously, but if you've read any of this, let me know your thoughts!):

  • Otherbound by Corrinne Duyvis
  • More Than This by Patrick Ness (Oh, and Monsters of Men)
  • Sin City graphic novels (I have 1 - 4, but I might save them for a read-a-thon. Specifically Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon in October).
  • There's a ton of books in this box from a BookOutlet order (there was that $20 off thing or whatever - I couldn't refuse!
  • The Half-Made World by Felix Gilman (I've started this, just barely, but it already seems incredible - such a different, unique world and it has an surprisingly few number of reviews on Goodreads).
  • Finish some of my longstanding currently-reading books. The Queen of the Tearling? Hello? I've been reading this book for months and months now, since like a month or something before it released. This book is amazing and fantastic, I don't know why I haven't finished it yet.
  • I've been feeling really in a classics / 'literary fiction' type of mood the last few days - so maybe I'll get around to a classic or whatever or two.
And now with that super vague TBR list of just random things spewed on the page... What are you planning to read this month? What are you most excited to read this month? Any releases you're looking forward to? (Link me your own September TBR post!)

August Wrap-Up / September TBR

How is it September already? I feel like I must of missed some months or something, I always feel like the year flies by so fast. Anyway, onto the books, because that's what we're here for right? Books.

August:
  • A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
  • Serenity: Those Left Behind (Serenity #1) by Joss Whedon and more
  • Warm Up by Victoria Schwab
  • Vicious by Victoria Schwab
  • The Blob That Ate Everyone by R.L. Stine
  • Bakuman, Vol. 1: Dreams and Reality by Tsugumi Ohba
  • The Rithmatist (Rithmatist #1) by Brandon Sanderson
  • Better Days (Serenity #2) by Joss Whedon
  • Burnt Offerings (Anita Blake #7) by Laurell K. Hamilton
  • Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
  • Blue Moon (Anita Blake #8) by  Laurell K. Hamilton
  • The Shepard's Tale (Serenity #3) by Joss and Zack Whedon
  • Obsidian Butterfly (Anita Blake #9) by Laurell K. Hamilton
Whew! So many books this much, and a couple really good ones that I'm still thinking about. I'm going to, hopefully, have my review of Vicious up the week/day that the book comes out and hopefully reviews many of them. If you haven't noticed, I can be kind of bad at this, it's hard to say enough things sometimes.

September:

Honestly, I have no idea what books I am going to read, as I never do. So, some guesses, and I am definitely not a psychic.

  • Fray by Joss Whedon
  • Next In Death series
  • Ink by Amanda Sun (and the novella)
  • Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper
And hopefully more. I can't remember off the top of my head which In Death book I'm on, I'm on one of them, there's a ton of them. And Fray is a comic/graphic novel about a slayer very far in the future and it sounds amazing (it's Joss Whedon, how could it not be amazing?). I might read the next Anita Blake book, but I've heard after Obsidian Butterfly they get kind of, well, bad (until the newest one, I think), and I have the next three, so I might as well read them, it's just... the next one is over 600 pages.

I also have some ARCs for books that come out September/October that I definitely should read. I'm very bad at making a list of books to read and sticking to it, though, normally I just pick up a random book and start reading.

Anyway! I hope August was a good month for everyone, if not reading wise then maybe something else wise, and now it's September! How the hell did that happen? No, really, I'm confused about this.

August Wrap-Up/September TBR

It was very empty month this month, on the reading and blogging front, at least. I was at LeakyCon and  then I had LeakyFlu and needed to sleep for like 2 weeks to fully recover. Anyway, I apologize, I meant to schedule posts so this didn't happen and it just didn't really work out well. Anyway, I only read 5 books this month. One was a picture book, but it was by Neil Gaiman and amazing, so here's the list.

Books:
The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman (author) (5/5)
I really enjoyed this. A lot. It was kind of awesome, you should probably check it out, it's creepy but just creepy enough.

Evelyn, Evelyn by Amanda Palmer and others (5/5)
This is kind of a companion to the album Evelyn, Evelyn which is all by (sung, lyrics, other) by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley and it's amazing. So amazing. I loved everything.

30-Second Mythology by Robert A. Segal (5/5)
It's a basic explanation of classical mythology, meaning just Greek and Roman, and it's really good. It has a short explanation of each thing (god, hero, other) and it was really good.

Ill Wind (Weather Warden #1) by Rachel Caine (4/5)
This was for a book club and was surprisingly good, if you ignore the crushed velvet, which I did. (It was just a purple outfit, no crushed velvet at all).

The Color of Magic (Discworld #1) by Terry Pratchett (5/5)
I decided to just go for it, just jump into this series, and oh my god it was amazing. I was so confused, really, the whole book, but I loved it. I got the world and the characters, but the way things happened made no sense. I loved it.

And now, since there weren't many books I read last month, I thought I'd add the books I might be reading to this list. As you can tell, it never really works out the way I want it to. I read by mood and, lately, I've been in an awful reading slump and now I'm sick and have a crap load of school work I should be doing right now. However, not counting book club books, there are the books I'd like to read this month:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
I started this one is August and the movie is coming out at the end of the month and I want to have read the book before seeing the movie.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
This is technically for a book club, but also now for school. (John told us to read the rest by Tuesday! Oh god, can I do it?)

And whatever else might come my way. Hopefully much more then I read in August.
