Biannual Bibliothon + BookTubeAThon | Update Post

My update post for both of these readathons! I don't know how much I'm going to focus on getting the challenges done, probably not too hard. There's a few I'll just get to no matter what: finish a book in a day, LGBTQIA+ book, throwback: graphic novel. For everything else, I have no idea, and am trying not to stress about it because I don't actually really need to do the challenges, but for some reason I feel like I do? (Ah, anxiety).

Anyway - I'll be updating daily. And I'll definitely add if any of the books match the challenges in my updates. The dates don't match up completely, they're one day off. So this is what the dates look like for the three readathons in one week (three, Casey? WTF? Yes - 24in48 the weekend before/you'll see):

  • 24in48 - July 22nd + 23rd
  • Biannual Bibliothon - July 23rd - 29th
  • BookTubeAThon - July 24th - July 30th

So, basically from the 22nd - thee 30th, my life is a readathon. Also, I'm going to start my period like the weekend of the 24in48 so I'm not going to want to do anything, anyway, because of excruciating pain. (which is why audiobooks) And if you're like - ew, TMI - then I cannot help you, because I've been having this happen to be about every month for 10+ years and have no sympathy for you.

Oh, also! Almost forgot. The Bibliothon has prompts for blog posts every day (I believe) tags/discussion posts/to post a review - and so far I'm writing a post for all of them, 4/7, so I'll probably post those in the notes here of the day they go up I guess? If you're doing them, let me know. And if you're updating on your blog - or social media - let me know!

Sunday, July 23rd (start of bibliothon!)
Books:
Hold Your Own by Kate Tempest (started and finished - 108 pages)
Dimension W, Volume 3 Yuji Iwahara (started and finished - 208)
Dimension W, Volume 4 Yuji Iwahara (started and finished - 208)
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Screenplay by J.K. Rowling (started and finished - 293 pages)
The Gauntlet by Karuan Riazi (started and finished - 294 pages)
The Gunslinger by Stephen King (continued - 20 pages)

# of pages read: 1,131
# books read: 5
time spend reading: 5 hours, 8 minutes

Notes:
It was the 2nd day of the 24in48 readathon, so not every day will look like this at all, though starting the week of readathons with this made me feel super inspired to read more this week? Which is great because, while I've been reading, I haven't been reading a lot.

If you want my general thoughts, you can check out my #24in48 update post.

Monday, July 24th (start of booktubeathon!)
Books:
Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward #2) by Seanan McGuire (started and finished - 187 pages)
Exit, Pursued by Bear by E.K. Johnston (started and finished - 242 pages)

# of pages read: 429
total # of pages: 1,560
# books read: 2
total # of books:
time spend reading: 3 hours, 32 minutes
total time spent reading: 8 hours, 40 minutes

Notes:
I didn't expect to have a great reading day after the 24in48, but really the 24in48 just kind of reminded me why I love reading so much? Also how much I fell in love with Adaptation - right book, right time. Anyway - Down Among the Sticks and Bones was good and I now love Jack even damn more then I did before, but overall it didn't give me that same feeling as the first book did. Still a solid 4 stars, maybe 4.5. Highly recommend this series.

Exit, Pursued By Bear was just... heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time? Trigger warning for rape. I don't normally read books about rape because the word makes me nauseous, and normally the book thinks it's important to show you the rape - which, no, no it isn't. At least in my opinion. This book, though, was incredible. A solid 5 stars. I cried through most of it, to give you a full depth of how much I loved this book, and mostly from how much I loved her friendship/relationships? Not everyone, of course, was incredible but most people were. And I loved it a whole hell of a lot, best girl friendship I've ever damn read. Check this one out if you can.

Tuesday, July 25th
Notes:
Didn't read anything cause had a doctors appointment that went longer then expected, and then politics and just... it wasn't a good day for my mental health. I did get a book in the mail I'm really excited about, which is why I didn't really set a TBR.

Dewey's 24 hour readathon | April 2016

And here we are, at another Dewey's readathon! I decided this year that all my Dewey's stuff would just be all in this one post (since no announcement post, might as well). If you have no idea what I'm talking about - FAQ - and I hope you'll end up joining us.

Now for this readathon there's less a "TBR" and more just "pile of things I want to read soon anyway and graphic novels for small boosts," which is kind of how I approach readathons in general (probably because Dewey's was one of my first, and that idea just stuck with me, I guess). I'm probably not going to list all the books in my stack from the get go because there's always way too many of them - I'll add a bunch, the ones I really think I'll get to, and then we'll go from there.

So down below is going to split into three sections - Stack, Goals, and Updates - and so it should be pretty easy to see what's what. For the updates, I'll probably update in 4 hour chunks, it's normally how I do it and it seems to work pretty well. And then the normally the next morning I'd type up a full wrap up, but it depends on how much I read (because I do a weekly wrap up now, but I'll probably do it anyway because it doesn't normally have my thoughts).

The Stack:

  • Legend by Marie Lu
  • The Bane Chronicles by Cassie Clare, +
  • Brand New Ancients by Kate Tempest
  • The Confessions by Tiffanzy Reisz
  • Deadman Wonderland - Volumes 1 &2
  • Deadpool, Volume Two: Soul Hunter
  • Captive Prince by P.C. Pacat
  • (am going to add more - crossed out ones are ones I've finished because who knows what I'll pick up and I don't feel like listening everything)

The Goals:

  • Read. Rest eyes. Social media. Read more. (oh and eat, eating is probably important).
  • Finish at least 2 book books (I don't know yet if I'm going to just drop my currently-reading for the weekend of try to finish them, we'll see in the moment. Hello the epitome of mood reading).
  • Cheer people on on twitter even though I'm not signed up as a cheerleader (because it's always fun to interact with people during readathons, and if we go by last year there's so many readers).
  • Have fun, don't get eye strain. (And also, hopefully, keep the momentum going. That's normally what I fail at, because by the end of the readathon I'm in such a reading mood, but if I stay up too late then I'm too tired to read the next day and all that is lost. I have a good feeling about this year).

The Updates:

8am - 12pm

Books:

Deadman Wonderland, Volume 1 by Jinsei Kataoka, Kazuma Kondou (started and finished - 215 pages)
Deadman Wonderland, Volume 2 by Jinsei Kataoka, Kazuma Kondou (started and finished - 208 pages)
Deadpool, Volume 2: Soul Hunter (started and finished - 136 pages)
Legend by Marie Lu (continues - 58 pages)

# of pages read: 617
# books read: 3
time spent reading: 2 hours, 27 minutes

Notes:
Well I got off to a good start with the manga, but I'll be slowing down after that (unless I decide to jump into some other manga volume I have but I doubt it). For some reason Legend is just so slow for me, I had started it before the readathon (got to page 80), but it just feels so damn slow. I'm determine to finish it, though (might read something else before getting back to it, though).

12pm - 4pm

Books:
The Confessions by Tiffany Reisz (started and finished - 140 pages)
Legend by Marie Lu (finished - 167 pages)

# of pages read: 307
total # of pages: 924
# books read: 2
total # of books: 5
time spend reading: 2 hours, 31 minutes
total time spent reading: 4 hours, 58 minutes

Notes:
Anything Tiffany Reisz writes is just so damn good, honestly. And I'm so attached to those characters now. Legend was... kind of a let down? Though I think the second one should be way more interesting, just don't think I'm going to risk it today (but who knows).

4pm - 8pm

Books:
Suicide Squad, Volume 1 by Adam Glass, + (started and finished - 160 pages)
Captive Prince (CP Trilogy #1) by C.S. Pascat (started and finished - 270)

# of pages read: 430
total # of pages: 1,354
# books read: 2
total # of books: 7
time spend reading: 3 hours, 1 minute
total time spent reading: 7 hours, 59 minutes

Notes:
Whew - struggled a bit with what the hell to read during that time. And I definitely will not be making it all night but I'm going to try as long as I can (my body, apparently, doesn't like caffeine. Not that it normally wakes me up much anyway, but it's the thought). Suicide Squad  - ehhh. Captive Prince - good, it didn't blow me away but it was very good.

8pm - 12am

Books:
Brand New Ancients by Kate Tempest (started and finished - 64 pages)
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater (continued - 22 pages)

# of pages read: 86
total # of pages: 1,440
# books read: 1
total # of books: 8
time spend reading: 1 hours, 8 minutes
total time spent reading: 9 hours, 7 minutes

Notes:
Normally I make it to, at least, midnight - but I can't have caffeine right now. It makes my eye twitch, which is very, very irritating and distracting - haven't been able to have coffee for months to begin with. Anyway - not the point.

I'm going to try to wake up in the morning and read a little more before the readathon is officially over. Either way, I'll have a full wrap up probably up by midmorning or so (not that it'll be any different from this if I don't read anything, but I like putting everything in on post - all my ducks in a row, I guess).

If you're still reading - I wish you the best of luck, a body that can handle caffeine, and no reading positions that cause you pain. Also good books! (Let me know what you're reading). I am going to watch something calming)

#24in48 Updates (16 +17)

I have no idea how this update post is going to work, I have a feeling a lot of my updating will be through social media (twitter, instagram, goodreads), but I wanted to have an update post. I'll probably update what I've read at the end of the days, I guess (and then my weekly wrap up will be a full wrap up of everything).

Head over to 24in48.com every six hours, they'll be doing giveaways and other things.

Hour Six Survey

  1. Where in the world are you reading from this weekend? Rhode Island
  2. Have you done the 24in48 readathon before? Yes, but I only read for like 12 hours, I think. Which isn't bad, but I can do better.
  3. Where did you hear about the readathon? Social media, blogs.
  4. What book are you most excited about reading this weekend? All the single issues, because I'm so behind, some trades. For book books, probably Six of Crows, Before the Awakening, and The Queen.
  5. Tell us something about yourself. I moved six months ago into a renovated mill building - loft style studio apartments - and also all of 2015 was kind of reading slump for me. Hoping to get out of it.
  6. Remind us where to find you online this weekend. Here! But also -twitterinstagramgoodreads

Hour Eleven Update

I really need to step up my game, but I was asleep for the first eight hours of the read-a-thon (rookie move, but I was very tired). So far, I've realized how much slower I'm reading them normal because I've got slight eye strain (my life, always, really at the moment. My heater dries out my eyes).

Anyway -
Hours read: 2 hours, 4 minutes
Books read:
Black Canary #6, Captain America: White #5, Coffin Hill, Volume 1: Forest of the Night, and Coffin Hill, Volume 2: Dark Endeavors

I was going to put them all out nice and neat - but I have reading to do, need to catch up and such. (Really quick, though, super enjoying Coffin Hill, and very glad I have volume 3 to read right away, because I'm just really enjoying it). What are you reading? How're you doing? Let me know!

Hour Thirty Four Update (I think?)

Math is hard when all you've been doing is reading, and you were a bit on the edge of eye strain when this read-a-thon started, and it's hard to combat that but also keep reading. Anyway - I think it's hour thirty four? It's some hour, alright?

I'm not sure I'll be getting to 24 hours, just because I got distracted yesterday and god damn my eyes, but most importantly I kind of feel like this read-a-thon is kind of getting my reading mojo back. I'm not sure I could ever get to the speed which I was reading in 2014, but I'd kind of like to. (The same book speed, with single issues, trades added to that. Ha, I have high dreams, alright?)

I've read quite a bit since the last update I did here, but I'm going to collect everything in a wrap up - I do a weekly wrap up, anyway, this one is just going to be completely 24in48 focused because I didn't read anything this week prior - so I'm just going to do slightly vague updated here.

So far I've read for about 12 hours (11 hours, 59 minutes) and am currently reading The Queen by Tiffany Reisz (about halfway done, probably). In the time between the last update and now I've also read another trade (Coffin Hill, Volume 3), a novella, a novel (neither on my original TBR stack, both digital), some single issues. Also listened to ten pages of Alexander Hamilton (the biography, this is going to take me a while), and also a little over a hundred pages of Monsters of Men

I'm really pleased with my reading, even though there's no way I'll get to 24 hours now, especially with my eyes. I'm still going to try, but I started to fall asleep last night at nine and couldn't look at a screen anymore, so we'll see how it goes. I do kind of want to try again on my own, though, before the next one, because why the hell not, right? (Aka: it's about the dead of winter in New England, it'll be better then going outside).

How are you doing? What are you reading? How do you have time to look at blogs?

Tackle Your TBR | Updates (14th - 20th)

It is Tackle Your TBR time! Wishful Ending's annual read-a-thon - the sign up post here(you can sign up through the 23rd). I'm planning on splitting up my updates into two posts, one for each week, mostly just the post doesn't get too long and weekly wrap ups.

Goals/TBR:
My goals are pretty vague - I'm also participating in Bookish September (is being run by a booktuber and there's also instagram challenges, some bookish fun mostly), and also a seasonal Bookish Bingo (both links to my posts). I'm mentioning both because there are challenges for the first, and the second one is pretty much just challenges, so I'd like to complete the remaining ones I have left for Bookish September and then get a bingo or two.

I don't really have any strict goals besides that. I'm probably going to just make a stack of books and try and work my way through it. If I do end up making a pile, I might do what I did for Bout of Books and make a list, crossing them off as I go (though, I doubt I'll be able to do as good / be able to stick to anything that well ever again).

Updates

Monday
Number of books I've read today: 1
Pages read: 240
Time Spent Reading: 2 hours
Books:
A Curious Tale of the In-Between by Lauren DeStefano (started and finished - 240 pages)

Notes:
I meant to get a bunch of reading done today because I've got plans mid week and no idea how next week is going to go reading while, but somehow it ended up being 5pm before I realized it. And then I just ended up picking up that book, reading it in one sitting, and then getting distracted again. I'm hoping to read more tomorrow, the only other day I know for sure is completely free this week. Should also do some book organizing but we shall see how it goes.

Tuesday
Number of books I've read today: 1
Total # of books I've read: 2
Pages read: 291
Total # of pages: 531
Time Spent Reading: 2 hour, 45 minutes
Total Time Spent Reading:  3 hours, 45 minutes
Books:
The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien (continues - 45 pages)
Lady Killer, Volume One by JoĆ«lle Jones, Jamie S. Rich (started and finished - 138 pages)
Hello, Goodbye, and Everything In Between by Jennifer E. Smith (started - 108 pages)

Notes:
I got a lot of things done today, and only a small part of it was reading, but I did get some reading done. Lady Killer, vol 1 was released today and I preodered it - and it might of been better then I expected and I was really freaking excited for it. (Also got The Marvel in the mail, which hoping to read this week or next, very soon).

I started The Things They Carried before this started, but didn't want to set it aside like I normally do for read-a-thons simply because I didn't want to fall that out it, and was less then 40 pages into it. Really, really enjoying it, though.

A lot of stuff came out September 1st, but it felt like twice as much came out today (it probably just seemed like it, but goodness). Pick up anything good? I'm curious, let me know!

Wednesday
Number of books I've read today: 0
Total # of books I've read: 2
Pages read: 462
Total # of pages: 1,024
Time Spent Reading: (about) 2 hours, 30 minutes
Total Time Spent Reading: 6 hours, 15 minutes
Books:
The Marvels by Brian Selznick (started - 462 pages)
The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien (continues - 31 pages)

Notes:
First off - I'm still just really loving The Things They Carried, something has just clicked but I also don't want to just sit down and read it in one go. I don't want it to be over.

I kind of accidentally started The Marvels today, I knew I wouldn't have time to finish it but i accentally started flipping through it and then, beofre I knew it, I was to the first page that's full text (which isn't until almost page 400, like 392 or something on my memory) - it's freaking incredible so far and I hope I can finish it tomorrow. It's just, i can't even words about it, but I'm loving it and it's making me want to reread his previous two books.

Today was rough, though, just a not good day (not feeling good always just makes me want to lay on the floor and do nothing), but reading definitely helped for most of it. Helped me get out of my own and just the act of slowing down to read, eased everything a little. Reading is cool.

How's your week going? Reading anything good?

Thursday
Did not get around to reading anything because I felt awful for a good part of the day and still had other things to do, so beside the time I had moments to read, I mostly just kind of fell asleep early.

Friday
Number of books I've read today: 1
Total # of books I've read: 3
Pages read: 178
Total # of pages: 1,202
Time Spent Reading:, 1 hours, 30 minutes
Total Time Spent Reading: 7 hours, 45 minutes
Books:
The Marvels by Brian Selznick (finished - 178 pages)

Notes:
I've loved both of what I've read by Selznick before - Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck - and so I shouldn't surprised at how much I just plain adored The Marvels - will gush about more in my weekly wrap up on Monday.

Feel free to let me know how your week is going? Reading wise, life wise.

Saturday
Number of books I've read today: 0
Total # of books I've read: 3
Pages read: 53
Total # of pages: 1,255
Time Spent Reading: 20 minutes
Total Time Spent Reading: 8 hours, 5 minutes
Books:
Injection #5 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (started and finished - 30 pages)
Planet Hulk #5 by Sam Humphries (started and finished - 23 pages)

Notes:
I ended up getting a lot less reading done then I expected because one of my neighbors and I had a mini doctor who party? Super last minute, but I actually had fun watching Doctor Who, so that was good!

Either way - hopefully i'll get more reading done tomorrow. I have to wake up super early to let people into my building for paint-y things, so we will see how this goes. If not tomorrow, hopefully monday, because after that will be insanity.

Sunday
Another day of no reading, just because there was so much going on today. And, by the time I would of been able to sit down and read, I was too exhausted to even really try, wouldn't of been able to focus for the life of me.

But, tomorrow is another day, hopefully I can get some reading done. I'm hoping to not get onto my computer until later in the day, maybe not until evening (someone hold me to that).

After this, the Tackle Your TBR is still going on for another week, so there will be another post up (which I'll link here when it's live) that'll be talking about my continued progress, not resetting anything, of course. Let me know if you're participating, of course, and where I can find your updates!
