Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon | October 21st

Once again, we've reached Dewey's 24 hour readathon! One of my favorites of the year and I love how seriously so many people, myself included, take this readathon. This year is probably going to be a little bit different though because I don't want to wear myself out too much. I'm traveling at the end of the week and have a lot of to do before then, and then then.

Speaking of which - blog posts during November will probably be pretty sparse considering I'll be visiting friends and it'll also be NaNoWriMo.

My plan is to be up at 8am and then read as long as I can, and then friends might want to do virtual hang out stuff. I have a lot I want to get done, I'm also in the middle of a lot of books and I'd like to get some of them finished, especially before my trip.

The Stack:

  • Not Your Villain by C.B. Lee
  • This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab
  • Spirit Hunters by Ellen Oh
  • Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy
  • This Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab

The Goals:

  • finish books on my currently-reading stack
  • read for literally any amount of time
  • participate on twitter and cheer people on
  • mostly just read!

The Updates:

8am - 12pm

Books:
Not Your Villain (Sidekicks Squad #2) by C.B. Lee (finished - 170 pages)

# of pages read:  170
# books read: 1
time spent reading: 1 hour, 23 minutes

Notes:
I woke up tired and not in a mood to read but I love this readathon and wanted to get in the mood so I made myself stop sleeping and read. Which is something I don't do enough and never regret? i'm breaking now cause my eyes are a bit iffy and I definitely overdid it yesterday but planning to finish at least one more book, if not two. I'm mostly working on currently-reading books and, specifically, hardcover currently-reading because probably not bringing hardcovers when I leave for my trip at the end of the week!

Let me know how your readathon is going!

12pm - 4pm

Books:
Smoke and Mirrors by Michael Faudet (started and finished - 240 pages)
Depression and other Magic Tricks by Sabrina Benaim (started and finished - 97 pages)

# of pages read: 337
total # of pages: 507
# books read: 2
total # of books:
time spend reading: 1 hour, 14 minutes
total time spent reading: 2 hours, 37 minutes

Notes:
I wasn't super in the mood to read when I woke up and then, eventually, I ended up taking a nap. I think just because I wore myself out so much the day before I just couldn't function today. And then finally got to talk to some friends over video and, sorry, more important then books (don't tell them, they'll be shocked).

Readathon | House Cup + Dewey's 24 hour

First off: The Hogwarts House Cup Reading Challenge. This is such a great idea, I think you're all aware of how much I love Harry Potter, but also - house points, and not all strict reading goals. Like the 7 years are free choices, which I love because mood reader. And, of course, you have to report to your head girl, I believe they're all girls. All of the heads of house are the co-hosts, of course, there's 4 hosts for this readathon and I just love that idea. Basically I'm all about this readathon.

Anyway - I'm a Ravenclaw, if you didn't know, and will definitely be trying to get some house points for the house because I can be a tad competitive.

Also it lasts for about a month. Starting October 15th and going until the 12th of November. (A Sunday - Sunday deal, which I do enjoy). I will be out of town for like two weeks of this readathon, maybe three, so that will be interesting but it's more visit friends then vacation/travel and I'm sure there will be reading time just not sure how much reading time.

And now there's a little sign up questionnaire to answer.

Hogwarts Student Questionnaire
Name: Casey Cassidy
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Wand Type: I forget the wood but dragon heart string core
Pet: Owl
Favorite Subject: Defense Against the Dart Arts
Favorite Professor: McGonigal

And now - Dewey's. I almost always participate in Dewey's 24 hours readathon. A 24 hour readathon, that starts in the same time in every time zone so everyone's reading together. It's one of my fav parts about it. I normally don't stay up for all the house - because I need sleep if I can get it - but I do try and read as much as possible.

This round takes place on 21st of October, and it starts at 8am Eastern Time. About page, time zone page, sign up post.

I normally do a post for Dewey's and update every few hours, so I'll probably be doing that - even though I shouldn't even do it, because I leave for chicago less then a week later but whatever. And, also, this is going up Friday the 13th and tomorrow is a social media 24 hour readathon being run by a booktuber - #readathonbyzoe is the hashtag if you want to check that out. I'll probably be actually reading something tomorrow for that, I haven't had much time recently and especially not the last few days.

Happy Reading! As always, let me know if you're participating in any of these readathons, or any I might not of heard of.

Dewey's readathon | Wrap Up

And here we are at the end of another readathon. It's always goes so fast! Only 24 hours, of course, and I always end up sleeping for a good amount of it. First of all - if you participated please post your wrap up down below so I can read it!

(Did you do it?)

Now - thoughts. So, of course, loved this readathon. I definitely spent more time on social media commenting and such this time around, which I'm 100% okay with because it's something I want to get better at (I'm bad at commenting - blogs, social media, YT - mostly just because of crippling social anxiety).

It was a ton of fun. I love seeing people talking about what they're reading, which is one of the reasons I think I love readathons so much? Because just everyone in the hashtag - and a lot of people I follow - are just constantly taking about what they're reading (or what they're snacking on, which is just as fun. And more delicious).

I did get a lot read this time around - caught up to where I needed to be to hit 100 books this year and everything - but I also feel like I could of read more. However, I'm was still and still am recovering from a cold. And, honestly, haven't been reading a whole lot period. I'm hoping to continue to ride the readathon wave to keep me reading until Bout of Books.

I DNF'd a book this time, which is something I almost never do outside of a readathon - and I might go back and try to finish it in a few days, it was the last thing I tried to read and I don't know if it was just my brain hitting it's too many words point or what. Either way, at the moment, I'm glad I did because I was getting ready to hit myself with the book instead of reading it.

So - onto what I did read (I have some general thoughts on all in my update post, or goodreads, but I'm not going to talk about thoughts on the specific books here).

Books:
  • The God Engines by John Scalzi
  • Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor
  • Injection, Volume 1 by Warren Ellis
  • Injection, Volume 2 by Warren Ellis
  • Lumberjanes, Volume 6: Sink or Swim by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters
  • Giant Days, Volume 4 by John Allison
  • Second Kiss by Chelsea M Cameron
  • One Hot December (Men at Work #3) by Tiffany Reisz
  • Forest of Memory by Mary Robinette Kowal
  • The Girl in the Park by Mariah Fredericks (DNF)
Books Finished: 9
Page Count: 1,200
Time Read: 8 hours, 12 minutes

Overall, considering how long I was awake, 8 hours seems like a ridiculously small amount of time to have spent reading on readathon day. I guess I've got to cut myself some slack, though I did read 1,200 pages and 9 things. And, also, taking into account I haven't exactly been reading too much physically. At all.

Anyway - enough of me rambling on. I love this readathon a whole lot, thanks for the co-hosts and also the people who jumped in to host for a few hours on twitter - it was a ton of fun, as always, and I hope you all had as much fun as I did.

Please link me to your wrap ups (or update posts) whether they be blogs, videos, whatever. And happy reading!

Dewey's 24 hour readathon | April 2017

Readathon time ahoy! This is my post with my stack - books I'd like to get to - and my goals. And also, of course, my updates. I normally update every four hour just because it feels like a good chunk of time for me?

I'm hoping to be awake when this goes live - at 8am, when the readathon starts for me - but who knows since I'm still a little sick. Either way, my plan is to read all day. I've got snacks, minus my ice cream sadly, but I guess ice cream is hard to eat while reading.

Feel free to link me to where you're updating - your blog, youtube(?), twitter, goodreads, litsy. And I hope your readathon goes good - here we go!

The Stack:

  • The God Engines by John Scalzi
  • We Are Okay by Nina LaCour
  • The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
  • Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor
  • Injection, Volume 1 by Warren Ellis
  • Injection, Volume 2 by Warren Ellis
  • Lumberjanes, Volume 6: Sink or Swim by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters
  • Giant Days, Volume 4 by John Allison
  • Second Kiss by Chelsea M Cameron
  • One Hot December (Men at Work #3) by Tiffany Reisz
  • Forest of Memory by Mary Robinette Kowal
  • The Girl in the Park by Mariah Fredericks
  • (edit: will be adding/taking away as my mood changes through out the readathon)

The Goals:

  • Read, have fun doing it
  • Cheer on people! I'm not signed up as a cheerleader but it's always fun to interact with people (prob social media)
  • Comment on blogs - again, cheer people on, but comments
  • Finish at least one book book, don't stress about it

The Updates:

Social Media:

8am - 12pm

Books:
Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor (started and finished - 162 pages)
Lumberjanes, Volume 6: Sink or Swim by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters (started and finished - 112 pages)

Injection, Volume 1 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (started and finished - 120 pages)

# of pages read: 506
# books read: 4
time spent reading: 2 hours, 45 mintues

Notes:
I loved Binti: Home so much - if you haven't given this series a shot you must. And I can't wait to get to more of her work! Lumberjanes, of course, I love more then is healthy. And Giant Days is a lot of fun!

Injection is just so good, I cannot push enough that you have to check out this comic series.

12pm - 4pm

Books:
Injection, Volume 2 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (started and finished - 120 pages)
The God Engines by John Scalzi (started and finished - 106 pages)

# of pages read: 285
total # of pages: 791
# books read: 3
total # of books:
time spend reading: 2 hours, 9 minutes
total time spent reading: 4 hours, 54 minutes

Notes:
I am going to take a nap now I think? Injection - amazing. The God Engines - meh? And Second Kiss was super cute but had a trouble that I've read in all of the few fluff short things I've read like this (still good, though)

4pm - 12am

Books:
One Hot December (Men at Work #3) by Tiffany Reisz (started and finished - 216 pages)
Forest of Memory by Mary Robinette Kowal (started and finished - 88 pages)
The Girl in the Park by Mariah Fredericks (started and DNF'd - 105 pages)

# of pages read: 409
total # of pages: 1,200
# books read: 2
total # of books:
time spend reading: 3 hours, 18 minutes
total time spent reading: 8 hours, 12 minutes

Notes:
Whoops, longer span between updates then normal (though was updating twitter and instagram a lot) mostly because I ended up taking a nap, a longer nap then I meant to but I guess I needed it. I am stil recovering from a cold.

One Hot December was really good - love the author and this one isn't as good as her Original Sinners series, but it's still really good, a lot of fun, great humor. Forest of Memory was weird as all hell and I really enjoyed it?

The Girl in the Park was something I've owned since, I think, Borders closed? (I can't remember buying it but I'm pretty sure it was at a Borders). And there was feeling in it but, honestly, I got sick of endless slut shamming.

Dewey's readathon | April 29th | Sign Up

Hello there, what's this place? *blows dust off words*

Besides the jokes, it has been a ridiculously long time since I've posted something here - and, actually, I have stuff I haven't posted that I've been meaning to (for example: 2016 favorites, 2017 goals. It's been a while), and I'm hoping to still post them (even though they will be very late.

I'm probably going to write up a whole post about why I've been gone and how much I realized I really enjoy blogging - and reading others posts, comments, all that jazz. This post, though, is all about Dewey's 24 hour readathon - probably my second favorite reoccurring readathon (sorry, Bout of Books takes top, but it's close).

Dewey's in, obviously, a 24 hour readathon. Which starts at the same time for everyone - figure out when it starts for you - and it's so much fun to just read all day and talk to people on twitter and everything. Snack on things. It's so much damn fun.

Closer to the readathon I'll post a stack of books I'll be picking from and all that jazz - if you're participating please let me know so I can check out, and cheer on, your progress during the readathon.

Dewey's 24 hour readathon | Full Wrap Up

Ah, sadly, another Dewey's is over and done with (it takes forever to get here and always seems to be over in a flash). I didn't last very long, for a few reasons, but I was still more then okay with how much reading I got done even considering that. (My body apparently has, cruelly, forsaken caffeine. Also the night before there were assholes firing off fireworks, so that kept me up later then expected).

Now for the full wrap up - I do this every time, and it's always kind of fun, but there's really no point to it besides me liking to put everything together neatly.

Books:
Deadman Wonderland, Volume 1 by Jinsei Kataoka, Kazuma Kondou
Deadman Wonderland, Volume 2 by Jinsei Kataoka, Kazuma Kondou
Deadpool, Volume 2: Soul Hunter by Brian Posehn, Scott Coblish, +
The Confessions by Tiffany Reisz
Legend by Marie Lu
Suicide Squad, Volume 1 by Adam Glass, +
Captive Prince (CP Trilogy #1) by C.S. Pascat
Brand New Ancients by Kate Tempest

total # of pages: 1,440
total # of books: 8
total time spent reading: 9 hours, 7 minutes

I really need to strengthen my reading muscles, I guess, give my brain a work out. Bout of Books is coming up in two weeks, as well (yay! My two favorite readathons), and I'm hoping to get a lot of reading done purely because there's just so many things coming out this year I want to read, so many books I want to reread.

Surprisingly, I didn't end up rereading anything this readathon, but it was mostly because I just love the idea of putting a stack of books together and then reading as much from that as I could. I'm really hoping to try and pick two more days this week to read as much as I physically can (probably less then this, because I did almost nothing else).

And with those random thoughts - how did your readathon go? What did you read?

Dewey's 24 hour readathon | April 2016

And here we are, at another Dewey's readathon! I decided this year that all my Dewey's stuff would just be all in this one post (since no announcement post, might as well). If you have no idea what I'm talking about - FAQ - and I hope you'll end up joining us.

Now for this readathon there's less a "TBR" and more just "pile of things I want to read soon anyway and graphic novels for small boosts," which is kind of how I approach readathons in general (probably because Dewey's was one of my first, and that idea just stuck with me, I guess). I'm probably not going to list all the books in my stack from the get go because there's always way too many of them - I'll add a bunch, the ones I really think I'll get to, and then we'll go from there.

So down below is going to split into three sections - Stack, Goals, and Updates - and so it should be pretty easy to see what's what. For the updates, I'll probably update in 4 hour chunks, it's normally how I do it and it seems to work pretty well. And then the normally the next morning I'd type up a full wrap up, but it depends on how much I read (because I do a weekly wrap up now, but I'll probably do it anyway because it doesn't normally have my thoughts).

The Stack:

  • Legend by Marie Lu
  • The Bane Chronicles by Cassie Clare, +
  • Brand New Ancients by Kate Tempest
  • The Confessions by Tiffanzy Reisz
  • Deadman Wonderland - Volumes 1 &2
  • Deadpool, Volume Two: Soul Hunter
  • Captive Prince by P.C. Pacat
  • (am going to add more - crossed out ones are ones I've finished because who knows what I'll pick up and I don't feel like listening everything)

The Goals:

  • Read. Rest eyes. Social media. Read more. (oh and eat, eating is probably important).
  • Finish at least 2 book books (I don't know yet if I'm going to just drop my currently-reading for the weekend of try to finish them, we'll see in the moment. Hello the epitome of mood reading).
  • Cheer people on on twitter even though I'm not signed up as a cheerleader (because it's always fun to interact with people during readathons, and if we go by last year there's so many readers).
  • Have fun, don't get eye strain. (And also, hopefully, keep the momentum going. That's normally what I fail at, because by the end of the readathon I'm in such a reading mood, but if I stay up too late then I'm too tired to read the next day and all that is lost. I have a good feeling about this year).

The Updates:

8am - 12pm

Books:

Deadman Wonderland, Volume 1 by Jinsei Kataoka, Kazuma Kondou (started and finished - 215 pages)
Deadman Wonderland, Volume 2 by Jinsei Kataoka, Kazuma Kondou (started and finished - 208 pages)
Deadpool, Volume 2: Soul Hunter (started and finished - 136 pages)
Legend by Marie Lu (continues - 58 pages)

# of pages read: 617
# books read: 3
time spent reading: 2 hours, 27 minutes

Notes:
Well I got off to a good start with the manga, but I'll be slowing down after that (unless I decide to jump into some other manga volume I have but I doubt it). For some reason Legend is just so slow for me, I had started it before the readathon (got to page 80), but it just feels so damn slow. I'm determine to finish it, though (might read something else before getting back to it, though).

12pm - 4pm

Books:
The Confessions by Tiffany Reisz (started and finished - 140 pages)
Legend by Marie Lu (finished - 167 pages)

# of pages read: 307
total # of pages: 924
# books read: 2
total # of books: 5
time spend reading: 2 hours, 31 minutes
total time spent reading: 4 hours, 58 minutes

Notes:
Anything Tiffany Reisz writes is just so damn good, honestly. And I'm so attached to those characters now. Legend was... kind of a let down? Though I think the second one should be way more interesting, just don't think I'm going to risk it today (but who knows).

4pm - 8pm

Books:
Suicide Squad, Volume 1 by Adam Glass, + (started and finished - 160 pages)
Captive Prince (CP Trilogy #1) by C.S. Pascat (started and finished - 270)

# of pages read: 430
total # of pages: 1,354
# books read: 2
total # of books: 7
time spend reading: 3 hours, 1 minute
total time spent reading: 7 hours, 59 minutes

Notes:
Whew - struggled a bit with what the hell to read during that time. And I definitely will not be making it all night but I'm going to try as long as I can (my body, apparently, doesn't like caffeine. Not that it normally wakes me up much anyway, but it's the thought). Suicide Squad  - ehhh. Captive Prince - good, it didn't blow me away but it was very good.

8pm - 12am

Books:
Brand New Ancients by Kate Tempest (started and finished - 64 pages)
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater (continued - 22 pages)

# of pages read: 86
total # of pages: 1,440
# books read: 1
total # of books: 8
time spend reading: 1 hours, 8 minutes
total time spent reading: 9 hours, 7 minutes

Notes:
Normally I make it to, at least, midnight - but I can't have caffeine right now. It makes my eye twitch, which is very, very irritating and distracting - haven't been able to have coffee for months to begin with. Anyway - not the point.

I'm going to try to wake up in the morning and read a little more before the readathon is officially over. Either way, I'll have a full wrap up probably up by midmorning or so (not that it'll be any different from this if I don't read anything, but I like putting everything in on post - all my ducks in a row, I guess).

If you're still reading - I wish you the best of luck, a body that can handle caffeine, and no reading positions that cause you pain. Also good books! (Let me know what you're reading). I am going to watch something calming)

Dewey's readathon | Wrap Up

I didn't end up reading for as long as I wanted, but I did complete one of my goals that I didn't actually mention anywhere (ah yes, one of those goals that you're like - I can probably finish this. But if I say it out loud, I probably won't do it. Why? Because brains suck.

The goal was to finish the Locke and Key series, all six volumes, and I did it! I'd read volumes 1-3 over a year ago and I was planning on rereading them and continuing with the rest, which I'm really glad I did because the amount I remembered from those was really just barely the skeletal part of it. (My memory is really awful).

Anyway - I finished that and some of other things. Like what I was currently reading, being Shadows of Self, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Before i get to my full stats. I just want to say something first.

I really love this read-a-thon. It's a ton of fun, and it's always just so exciting to think of everything starting to read at exactly the same time, and then seeing everyones updates and what people are reading and such. I kind of wish I could do this more often, just push everything aside and read Considering the nap I took turend into more a sleep, I probably could get done what I did during a normal day, if I just read, but whatever. It's not the same without a read-a-thon!

If you haven't been participating - or are just hearing about Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon - then I highly suggest you click that link and check it out, they have events twice a year (the next is in April, and then October again). It's a ton of fun.

Alright, so if you're not following me on social media you might not know that I meant to take a quick nap - an hour, two at most - and then accidentally slept from like 9 - 1 and that was after not getting any reading done since four.

But I woke up with new found strength to read! And I made tea, caffeine! (Caffeine that is slightly nicer on my stomach then coffee, huzzah)

Notes:
Can we just talk about Locke and Key? Why did I wait so damn long to finish up this series? It turned into my goal of this read-a-thon, because I knew I wouldn't unless I read them all back to back, and I really needed to reread the first few, too.

Basically, completely spoiler free, just fucking read it. This series is incredible, funny at points, but also ripped my heart out. I want to read more because I'm awake now, but I have to process that a little first. So we'll see how that goes.

Anyway - besides me gushing about Locke and Key (and sobbing) and the fact that I slept a good few hours without meaning to: what are you reading? Still awake? Or heading off to bed? Let me know what you just finished, currently reading, any and either way!

Dewey's readathon | Update | 12pm - 4pm

Whew, this is going up a little late because I stopped to write down stuff and then decided to just finish the graphic novel I was currently reading before doing this. It was definitely a successful few hours, I didn't do much else but read. I did get a shit ton of that done, though.

Books:
Virgil by Steve Orlando, J.D. Faith (started and finished - 104 pages)
Locke and Key, Volume One: Welcome To Lovecraft by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez (started and finished - 168 pages)

# of Books Read: 4

Time Spent Reading: 2 hours, 50 minutes

Total # Pages Read: 939

Total # Books Read: 5

Total Time Spent Reading: 5 hours, 20 minutes

Notes:
Whew, I think I need a little break before continuing. Volumes 1 - 3 of Locke and Key were rereads, but rereading them I realized how very little I remembered (so little, holy shit), and it's so damn good. I can't wait to get to volumes five and six after a break, a well deserved break that was a lot of reading back to back. Virgil was fantastic, as well, though - so much good comic reading just happened. I might need a nap or just something not reading, though, maybe I'll save the nap for later

Dewey's readathon | Update | 8am - 12pm

Update number one, which means we are four hours into this thing. I hope everyones reading is going well and, if not, I hope your day is going well.

I started not at exactly 8, still trying to do some things on the computer - writing a few words and commenting on a few blogs before closing it until I had to write this update. I still think it was definitely a successful few hours, though.

Books:
Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson (finished - 242 pages)

Shadows of Self was the only book I'd been reading before the read-a-thon started, so I wanted to polish it off first so I could get into other things. I'm definitely going to have to go back and connect things and probably look up stuff on the 17th Shard - I need a few minutes to process and then graphic novels, maybe a single issue or two, and starting another book!

What are you reading?

Dewey's 24 hour readathon | Kick Off (8am Eastern)

This is scheduled to go up so I hope I'm actually awake - I'll be super annoyed if the one morning I want to be awake before 8, I'm not. That isn't the point of this post, the point of this post is oh my god the Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon is starting!!

If you're confused, or downright have no idea what I'm talking about - readathon blog, check it out. 24 hour read-a-thon, everyone starts at the same exactly time around the world (example: 8 eastern, 7 central, and so on), and you read for 24 hours. There's mini challenge type things, you can win prizes - but really my favorite part, and I feel comfortable saying I think most peoples favorite part... is the people.

Reading with hundreds of people and then talking to those hundreds of people on the internet. Cheering people on to read more or stay up, or promising people that if they don't have time it's okay. It's a read-a-thon, but life happens.

I have no idea how this is going to go for me this year - I'm not really in a reading mood, but I want to be? I haven't been reading, but there are so many things I want to be reading. Well, want to have read. So I have a feeling that the morning of (right now) I'll just post a picture of the books I pulled out before bed, probably a ridiculously huge stack, and I'll just start reading something.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to start the read-a-thon by finished Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson, but after that - who knows? I certainly don't!

For my updates - social media: TwitterInstagramgoodreads - and I'll be posting four hour update posts here, separate posts. So one will go up at noon, then 4pm, then 8pm, and so on until it's over or I pass out. And then - probably after a few hours of sleep - I'll write and post a wrap up of everything I read, if I did any challenges, and I also tend to gush about how awesome everyone is.

If you're participating please, please comment down below with your blog or twitter or whatever so I can go check it out and cheer you on I've never signed up to be a cheerleader, but I do try to comment on peoples posts and chat with people. So let me know! And if you have any idea of what you're going to read, I'd love to hear!

Now - read! And have fun, no stress just books.

Edit: I'm going to add the Introductory Meme here just so my updates can mostly be just updates, we'll see how that works. This is basically just answering questions, so lets see how that goes:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Rhode Island, the tinniest tiny state. (It's still new to say that, I'm so use to saying MA)

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Oh god, I don't know. I didn't make a very big stack, just pretty much what I've been wanting to read and not getting to. I'm into Shadows of Self (which I'm loving) but also very excited to finally get to 4-6 of Locke and Key, after rereading the first 3 because I don't remember really anything. Also - the first Magnus Chase book. They're all pretty excitable really.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
You know, this year I didn't really go out and buy snacks, but I'll probably break out chocolate and cookies at some point, which I don't normally let myself do. Also probably a lot of tea, it looks to be a chilly day.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Well, I really love reading and I've been having a super hard time of doing that recently. Just haven't been able to focus because of so much stress, so I'm really glad that this read-a-thon comes around when it does.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I think this is my third or fourth, but I'm not sure anymore, and I think what I'm hoping to do differently then the last time is stay up later. I have before, but last time I passed out at like midnight. Unacceptable! 8 hours of lost reading time. Though, I don't I'll stay up that much later, but I can live with 2 or 4.

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon | Sign Up (October 17th)

It's that time of year again! I always love participating in this read-a-thon, it's such a compressed amount of time and everyone is awesome and all the stuff happening on peoples blogs and social media - I love making a stack to choose from and getting to have fun with it.

Dewey's 24 hour readathon is on that starts at a specific time and, for a good few time zones, mostly going off mine which is how I think of it, will go from the 17th - 18th of October. I'm going to link the page they have of start times down below so you can figure out yours.

I think this read-a-thon is pretty self explanatory - readathon, 24 hours. However, if you can't read you can always cheerlead (still need free time/computer access), I'll also link the post about that at the bottom. Or you can always just randomly jump on the hashtag on Twitter or whatever, or just push your friends.

It's a fantastic experience and so much fun. I'll post stuff closer, probably do updates in four hour chunks like I've done in the past. I'll do a kick off post with, hopefully, a picture of my stack the day before so, if you're participating, you can tell me what you're planning on reading. Alright, that's more then enough useless chatter.

24 hours. Reading. Join. Links just below.

Dewey's Read-A-Thon Update | 12pm - 4pm

I'm not sure how to count single issues, but since I've technically only read one (the others I'm counting as their trades because I read all of them, anyway, easier), I'm just going to count it as one. And we will go from there. So it was a good four hours.

Books:
Prometheus: Fire and Flood OMEGA by Kelly Sue DeConnick (started and finished - 44 pages)
Birthright, Vol 1: Homecoming by Joshua Williamson (started and finished - 128 pages)
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King (finished - 253 pages)
Sex and Violence by Carrie Mesrobian (started - 37 pages)

# of Pages Read: 462

# of Books Read: 3

Time Spent Reading: 3 hours, 30 minutes

Total # Pages Read: 931

Total # Books Read: 5

Time Spent Reading: 3 hours, 30 minutes

This read-a-thon is going shockingly good so far, considering how much reading wasn't happening for me. Although, I did also finish my reread of IT in four days, so I guess I was pre-gaming for this a little. Really loved Ask the Passengers, and I'm intrigued by Sex and Violence but not too far into it. I don't really know what to expect, I might pick up something else, we shall see in a few hours when I update here again.

Hope your read-a-thon (or just day) is going great. Reading anything good? (I hope so)

Dewey's Read-A-Thon Update | 8am - 12pm

I started reading at just about 8am and set my stopwatch on my phone and started reading. And didn't stop until I finished the first book and didn't feel like I had to push myself through it, which was a relief considering how my reading has been going lately.

Books:
Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (started and finished - 303 pages)
Predator: Fire and Stone by Joshua Williamson (started and finished - 126 pages)
Ask the Passangers by A.S. King (started - 40 pages)

# of Pages Read: 469

# of Books Read: 2

Time Spent Reading: 3 hours

I really enjoyed Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda - I had some minor problems with it at the beginning, but it was also just so painfully adorable at points I didn't know what to do. Ask the Passangers is definitely a more serious YA contemporary, but I guess it's a LGBTQA+ reading time or something? (I actually just picked it up without a thought, and then went... ooh yeah. Well, cool, I guess. So we are just going with it).

And then Predator: Fire and Stone - eh, but almost done with this event thing. I'm enjoying it over all, but it's not amazing or anything.

How are YOU doing? What are you currently-reading?

The Beginning (&stack) | Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon

And so it begins, another read-a-thon. Dewey's is a fantastic one and I hope you're all ready for it! I've got coffee, snacks, I think I am prepared. Oh, right, and a giant stack of books to pick from.

This is scheduled to go up, so I hope I'm actually awake (and curled up with a book and tea, let's do this!) I said before that I didn't have any real goals, and I don't, but that doesn't mean I also am not hoping towards some goals. I'm a goals kind of person and competitive, I've learned almost especially against myself.

So I have a huge stack of books that are possibilities for this read-a-thon. Novels, graphic novels, some ebooks.

I have so many comics/graphic novels/such in my possession that are unread that it's honestly becoming a problem. However, at the top for this read-a-thon are these:

  • Sex Criminals, Vol 2 by Matt Fraction, Chip Zdarsky
  • Ms. Marvel, Vol 2 by G. Willow Wilson
  • And then more single issues stuff - I have the end of the Alien Fire and Stone event, still haven't read that, and also issues #1-3 of Bitch Planet.
  • The Runaways: The Complete Collection, Vol 1 by Brian K. Vaughan
And then on the physical book side, I'm going much more young adult just because I read YA faster. And it's getting warmer now - finally - and I've started to kind of crave YA contemporary. So I've got that, some more fantasy YA, some completely off of that. It's a big stack of stuff that I might read because I've just found this is the best way to do it. And, really, my real stack is just the hundreds of unread books in the house plus ebooks plus what I could get on Scribd/Oyster. I'm a mood reader, and with a read-a-thon - just go with the flow. However, some possibilities:

  • Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Bucky Albertalli
  • Sex & Violence by Carrie Mesrobian
  • Salt and Stone by Victoria Scott
  • A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
  • Fortune's Pawn by Rachel Bach
  • The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord
  • Ask the Passangers by A.S. King
  • Early to Death, Early to Rise and Something Deadly This Way Comes by Kim Harrison
  • A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf
  • Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman OR Trigger Warnings - short story collection to dig in and out of.
Who knows what of that will be read, what won't, what I'll end up reading. But here we are - hour zero, I guess. What are you picking up first? / currently reading?

Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon | Tomorrow! (April 25th)

Tomorrow (Saturday, April 25th) is the Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon! Well, most it as it carries into Sunday (24 hours, see). And I'm going to go with how I did it last time in terms of updates. Of course, there's always social medias - twitter, goodreads, instagram - but I'll also be updating here in four hour chunks. In separate posts, mostly so I don't fuck anything up formatting wise. Which is very possible, especially as it gets later and later.

Basically, this post is just a reminder, but it's also kind of a - hey, I'm doing this thing, if you're also doing this thing comment and let know. It's also normally a goal post. I'll probably be posting my stack of what I'll be choosing from the morning of, just because it'll probably change so freaking much.

I say normally, because I don't really have any specific goals for this read-a-thon, I'm going to very low stress route. I'd like to, and always aim to, stay awake as long as I can and read as much as possible. And I'd also like to hop around to as many blogs as I can, hopefully leaving comments in my wake, and hang out in the hashtag on twitter for a little while. It definitely is my favorite part of read-a-thons - talking to everyone.

As to how much I'd like to get read? No idea. I'm still kind of getting back into reading, tentatively, and I'm hopeful that this will give me the last shove I need. I tend to make a giant pile of stuff that'll sit next to me and I'll pick through it as I go. I have a tentative plan to make a book book pile and then a single issue/trade/graphic novel stack and just kind of see how far I can burn through them both. I tend to pick YA, because I just read YA faster, and I've got a pretty good stack of YA contemporaries piling up, so that's one idea. And no shortage of graphic novels and such. I've also got Scibd and Oyster.

So I'm a go for so many books.

So, to wrap it up, what are your plans? Your book stacks? Let me know! Leave a link to your own post, however you want to tell me. Read-a-thons are all about the fun and the reading.

Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon! (October 18th, 2014)

Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon is an even that takes place twice a year (April and October) and is, of course, a 24 hour read-a-thon. This year the October read-a-thon is taking place from 8am Eastern time - this is a read-a-thon where the time is specific (times here).

I've participated a few times before, I don't remember how many off the top of my head, but it's always a ton of fun. There are cheerleaders going around, who normally help you keep reading for the full twenty four hours (last year, one convinced me to try to get just a little more done). And everyone's lovely and fantastic.

So I'd suggest canceling all plans for the 18th and 19th and finding the shortest books you own and doing this. It's fun and you'll get more read in the short amount of time then you ever expected, I always seem to.

I'll be posting my TBR much closer to the event, as it's just under a month away now. Are you planning on participating? Have you in the past? What's your start time for your time zone?

Update: It turns out I'm not going to be able to participate as I will not be home and everything is hectic and crazy. And I'm going to very much miss it, the next one definitely, and I hope you all have a fantastic time! Read a book for me and have fun.

Dewey's Read-a-Thon Final Wrap-Up (and 4am - 8am)

After I finished The Walking Dead: Book One, I felt like I was kind of done, but I'd just made coffee. I'm also someone who when I see a goal that is not impossible by physics, then I'll probably try it. And, man, I was so close to having read 2,000 pages in 24 hours. Could you imagine how cool that would have been?

I mean freaking insane, but really what else did you expect?

I had such a hard time concentrating, and not much was read in these last few hours, so I thought I'd just write up what happened.

I read maybe 20/30 pages in The Walking Dead: Book Two but there aren't page number so I'm not really sure. But we're going to just go with twenty pages, screw it, and it probably took like twenty minutes / half an hour with how I am right now. (I cannot tell you how sleep deprived I am right now. And possibly got a cold or something happening, so I'm not at the height of anything).

I also ended up listening to a prequel to the Chaos Walking series, called The New World, which was 45 minutes long. And, according to Goodreads 25 pages long, but since I listened to it - I'm just going to add that time to the 'time spent reading.'

Total pages read: 1,636

Total time spent reading: 13 hours 45 minutes

Number of Books Finished: 7

Books Finished:
The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking #1) by Patrick Ness (had started before - 306 pages)
Zom-B by Darren Shan (174 pages)
Cold War by Adam Christopher (novella, 39 pages)
God Save the Queen (Immortal Empire #1) by Kate Locke (354 pages)
The Queen is Dead (Immoral Empire #2) by Kate Locke (337 pages)
The Walking Dead: Book One by Robert Kirkman (304 pages)
The New World (Chaos Walking #0.5) by Patrick Ness (45 minutes)

Started but didn't finish:
The Burning Dark by Adam Christopher (58 pages)
Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine #1) by Lilith Saintcrow ( pages)

Comments:
Dewey's read-a-thon is the only 24 hour read-a-thon I've ever taken a part in, but it doesn't change the fact that I adore it. I love that there are cheerleaders and that it's so organized because it's been running now for a few years. And, most of all - everyone on twitter and all those other social media websites talking about what they're reading and everyone's so freaking nice, it's the main reason I was so drawn to the blogging community when I made this blog in 2011.

There are two main, and favorite, read-a-thons that I take part in. And I adore them both, and they're completely different, and I love them for different reasons. Dewey's is fast, specific, draining but rewarding. And Bout of Books, my other favorite (the next one in May!) is longer so there's more time to read, and the twitter chats (it sounds silly, but I hadn't participated really in them until the last time or two and they're incredible amount of fun. Everyone's so nice and talking about books. I mean what more could you want?)

Anyway - I don't really know what the point of this is, except to just kind of write a love letter to read-a-thons apparently. It's 5am, I've been up since 7:30 am yesterday, and I didn't sleep good that night.

Basically, I love read-a-thons. And I love beating my own past records and stats and reading a ridiculous number of books and possibly forgetting to eat.

Also, if you want to see my progress in more real time, then there are places for that: Goodreads, Twitter, Instagram.

Dewey's Read-A-Thon Update: 12am - 4am

I took a slight nap, it felt more like just a rest. I just laid down and set my alarm for an hour. It's been a rough four hours, though, let me tell you. I definitely am feeling that 'I need sleep' feeling right about now, it also doesn't help that I didn't sleep well last night. Anyway - stats time~

Books:
Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine #1) by Lilith Saintcrow (started - 47 pages)
The Walking Dead: Book One by Robert Kirkman (finished - 304 pages)

Pages read: 351

Time spent reading: about 2 hours

Number of Book(s) finished: 1

Total pages read: 1,616

Total time spent reading: (about) 12 hours, 40 minutes

Books Finished: 6

Comments:
I've read Working for the Devil before, but I don't remeber the finer details. Hell, I don't remember any of the details, honestly, and I wanted to continue with the series and the next, and I thought read-a-thons might be a good place to do just that. However - I was going to pass out if I didn't read something a little quicker: a comic book. Surprisingly, my first of the day, but they are good to save for these early morning hours.

I hope you're all doing well or sleeping soundly, having nice dreams of books and chocolate.
