WWW Wednesday (20)

It hasn't been too long since I've last done one of these, but I thought it was about time to bring it back around because I do enjoy them quite a bit. Mostly because I just get to talk about my recently read / currently reading books and I like talking about that. (Also hearing about what other people are reading, I really love that, it's so interesting).

First off - I want to apologize just straight off because I'm writing this (starting writing it, at least), pretty late at night and I'm tired. And writing had sapped all of my energy and brain power, as I stated in an earlier post. And I'm sorry for any spelling, grammar, general errors, because I'm not sure what could happen but I'm sure I won't notice if it does. But, hey, BOOKS! (if you did one of these, link me to it, I will read over it during one of my view breaks where I can see the internet, hopefully).

Also, last note I promise, I'm going to just be talking about everything I've read since the month began because it's a surprisingly small amount of things. Well - not surprising, but it's sad.

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. She asks that you answer three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

Currently-reading:
As usual, I'm always currently reading way too many books, but I'm not really actively reading anything at the moment because NaNoWriMo. I did read about 30 pages of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, which I'm liking so far.

Read:
The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle #1) by Maggie Stiefvater (5/5)
I was little unsure before starting this one. Mostly just because even though I was hearing amazing things about this series, I was hearing not so amazing things about her other series and that had me a little worried. I shouldn't of been, I should of just listening. This book was phenomenal. I think it was a case of perfect time for this book, but I love that so much and I loved this book so much. I'm currently putting off the third one because I don't want to be out of new stuff, the next book is at least a year away.

Click-Clack the Rattle Bag by Neil Gaiman
I got this for free from Audible because of the Halloween (All Hallows Read) promotion thing. And I wasn't sure when I was going to listen to it, but it's just twelve minutes and I had a migraine and couldn't so anything else. And I enjoyed it a surprising amount for it being so short, it was honestly a little creepy.

Hawkeye, Vol 3: LA Women and single issues: #13, #17, #15, #19 by Matt Fraction, David Aja
The way the volumes were split was to put the bulk of Kate's comics, her story, into a volume and then Clint's, and the end of the series, will be volume four. I'm sad to see this series end, I love it to bits and pieces. I will follow Matt Fraction wherever he goes, and probably David Aja, too, because the art is just gorgeous.

The Wicked and the Divine #3 by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie
Oh man, this series is awesome. I'm trying to take it slow, bide my time until the next volume comes out. But it's so good. I don't know why I was so sold on this so quickly, but I'm sure it had something to do with - my obsession with gods/such on earth, the gorgeous art and coloring, and the almost instant intrigue of what the hell is going on I love it.

The Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle #2) by Maggie Stiefvater
So much chatacter development and it didn't feel rush. I love the pacing. I'm just in love with this series - I just fell head over heels and I'm not sure it can do any wrong. And it's been a while since I've just kind of let go like that for a series (though Sanderson can't seem to do any wrong). But this world is magical and her writing is beautiful. And these characters. I'm not sure I could pick a favor, but I'm obsessed and I'll be sad to say goodbye to them. Maybe I'll read book three first thing December so I can put my full focus on it.

White Cat, Red Glove, Black Heart (Curse Workers 1-3) by Holly Black
White Cat was a reread for me, but the rest were new and I'm glad I reread it because I did not remember enough to go back and read it, but I really enjoyed all three of these books. They were exactly what I wanted them to be, pretty much, and I'm really glad I read them when I did. I'm very much a mood reader, if you didn't know, and I was just in the mood for con men being kick- ass and bad and that's what I got it was marvelous.

Chew, Volume 3: Just Desserts by John Layman, Rob Guillory
I'm really enjoying this serious - it's ridiculous and I love the art style. It does have gore, so I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like that, but the characters are a lot of fun. And this volume ended on a strange note that makes me want volume 4 immediately.

To-Read:
I have a lot of books I'd like to read very soon. Blue Lily, Lily Blue - which I'm putting off because the final book is a year away and I think this one is probably going to hurt in some way.
Ancillary Justice - I've had this book since it came out, it was a pick for the Sword and Laser bookclub one month, and I didn't get to it then. And then it won every award ever. And the sequel just came out.
There's more, of course, but I'll leave it at that for now, because this is suppose to be just immediately and I have no idea when I'm going to read either of those books, or be able to read again, for that matter.

WWW Wednesday (19)

It's been a few months since I've done one of these, since June if my memories correct, but I wanted to do another one just because - so much reading is happening recently and I'm behind on my mini-review posts and my actual review posts. Anyway - WWW Wednesday.

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. She asks that you answer three questions:
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

Currently-Reading:
The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes
I haven't gotten very far in this book, but I'm really enjoying it so far, it's strange and definitely gore-y at one point so far - but I'm interesting. And looking forward to more.

The Call of Cthulu and Other Weird Stories by H.P. Lovecraft
Also not very far, but also really enjoying - cannot want to read more.

Read(finished so far this month):
The Thing on the Doorstep by H.P Lovecraft
This is a short story and was the first thing I read in full by Lovecraft and I really, really enjoyed it. I liked his writing, imagery, and how it was creepy but in a way that is subtle, at least I thought so. Very good, already started to read more Lovecraft.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
I know this story and I've liked things based on this story - but I'd never read the original text before. And I'd tried to read Treasure Island last year (or the year before, I'm not sure), and I just couldn't get through it, so I was a little worried about this. But I loved it, I really enjoyed it and everything, so good.

The Lost Hero (Heroes of Olympus #1) The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus #2) by Rick Riordan
These were a reread, in preparation for The Blood of Olympus and I'm really glad I did. I remembered the main points, but I felt like I'd forgotten so much that'd happened. (Also, its Wednesday now - so the Blood of Olympus has been up for a day).

The Demigod Files The Ultimate Guide (Percy Jackson related) by Rick Riordan
I really enjoyed The Demigod Files, though I wish they were longer but still informative, but having just reread most of the books The Ultimate Guide felt redundant to me, and didn't have any additional information.

The Mark of Athena (Heroes of Olympus #3) & The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus #4) by Rick Riordan
To explain the reason I'm seperating these books like this and not putting them all together, or all separate, it's because this is how I read them by day. Anyway - I really, really loved these, too, and I'm really, really glad that I decided to reread these books before the last one, because I wanted everything to be as fresh as possibly in my mind for this last book. I'm going to miss all of these characters, and I'm a little stunned #5 isn't longer, just because of how many loose ends need to be wrapped up with so many characters.

The Blood of Olympus (Heroes of Olympus #5) by Rick Riordan
Holy shit, this was fantastic. I kind of wanted to go a little more, even though I did like the ending, I wanted to see more. Also - Nico chapters. I'm only a bit angry there weren't any Percy or Annabeth chapters, I was bribed by Nico chapters. No spoilers, I promise, but I highly recommend this series.

To Read Next:
I'm not all together sure, would like to finish both those currently-reading books, but they're slow reading books, I think. I'd also like to get to The Raven Boys very soon and some other horror books, considering the month and my sudden instence craving for the genre. It's been a too long since I've read a straight up horror novel.

WWW Wednesday (18)

It's once again been more then just a week since I did this, it's been about a month, I think. So we've got a tad bit of catching up to do, it's a good thing a large chunk of the books I've read is a manga series, that'll make this easier.

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. She asks that you answer three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?
Currently-Reading:
The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles #1) by Patrick Rothfuss
I'm about in the middle of this one, it's long and the second is even longer, and it's so good. The writing, first of all, I don't care what genre you normally read because this writing, oh my god. And the characters and the plot - I kind of love it all, a lot, I'm taking it a little slow now, have kind of taken a break from it, but just because I didn't want to force myself through it.

The Glass Sentence by S.E. Grove
I just started this one, and I'm a little eh on it, but I'm barely into it - only like 50 pages. I realized I just really wasn't in the mood for Fantasy, or anything that'd take too much thought. I'm definitely going to keep going, I loved the idea/concept of this book, I just need to get further into the story. Also I'd finished Ready Player One - and I just needed something lighter (even though I love RP1 and it's amazing).

Read:
Fruits Basket 1-23 by Natsuki Takaya (5/5)
Yeah - I reread the entirety of Fruits Basket (I also re-watched the anime), and this was really good, as good as I remembered it being. And the anime was actually better then I remember, and both are really funny at points. I definitely reccomend this series, I also think it's a good starting series - if you're trying to get into manga and don't want to get yourself into anything huge. This series has a definite end, it's fantastic and funny, and has an anime. (The anime only covers the story arc to volume 6, but it has scenes/information from further volumes, if memory serves, but not too much farther then that).

Fire and Flood by Victoria Scott (4/5)
This was very, very good. Life or death situations, animal companions, possible corrupting - fantastic.

Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour (5/5)
Whoa, a contemporary? I know, I know - but I do read them when the urge arises, and this one was really, really good. I always forget that I do like contemporaries, I just rarely get the urge to read them. Anyway - I stayed up late to finish this, and I hadn't even meant to pick it up to begin with, and I flew through it - it was fantastic and touching and it made me cry. That's the highest praise, I don't cry at a lot of books.

Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony (3/5)
I - liked it, but it didn't draw me in, I didn't feel connected at all with these characters. But it was a really cool way to tell a story.

The Inventor's Secret by Andrea Cremer (5/5)
I need to read her other series, it's werewolves and I love werewolves. Anyway - this one: steampunk, alternate history, and a shit ton of fun. It's can get cheesy, but sometimes I really like that. Which is probably a weird thing to say, but I liked the characters, the humor. It was just a lot of fun to read.

Sea of Shadows by Kelly Armstrong (5/5)
I was intrigued by this book, but I didn't expect to like it this much. I've never read anything by Kelly Armstrong, but I'm definitely going to look into her other stuff. This was really good, I liked the writing and the characters and the story was good and actually surprised me.

Burn for Burn by Siobhan Vivian, Jenny Han (3/5)
Fun, interesting, but it didn't feel like it was more then that. And I don't, honestly, think that's a bad thing. It was exactly what I expected - teenage girls trying to get revenge. I might even continue on with the series when they're also out in paperback.

To Read:
I have a large amount of books I want to read right away, and even short term TBRs just don't seem to work with me. I'm a very mood based reader, and if I'm not feeling a book - I just can't read it. However, I have a few ideas, I kind of am in a contemporary mood (what? blaspheme. I don't know if this has ever happened to me before). Anyway - I pulled a couple contemporary books out, and I just got one in the mail and such, but I also want to keep going with my #RYBSAT stack (I've been kind of reading that and other books, like I'm double reading for some, strange reason. Oh, right, I have no life).

So - possibilities for soon (since I'm sure my next WWW Wednesday won't go up until after VidCon):
  • Rock On by Denisa Vega (short, rock music - sounds fun)
  • The List by Siobhan Vivian (because just read Burn for Burn and have heard good things)
  • Open Road Summer by Emery Lord (because someone commented I sound and I've seen really good reviews for it. Also the cover is even more gorgeous in person, I just got it in the mail).
  • Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo (the third book just came out, and I've been here even more good things).
  • And - also finish some of the other books I'm still currently-reading.
Do you post a WWW Wednesday? Or just - what have you read recently or what are you reading currently? What are you eyeing to read next?

WWW Wednesday (17)

So. It's been a long time since I've done one of these, way too long. And I really enjoy doing these, but there have been way too many books I've read since I did this. Actually, the last time I did this meme was last year, in May, so it's almost been a full year.

I'm just going to mention some of the few books I've just finished and not go further then that.

And here we go!

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. She asks that you answer three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

Currently-Reading:
Well - according to goodreads I'm currently reading 15 books at the moment, insert freak out / sigh here, so I'm just going to list the ones that I'm actively trying to get through, the rest are more or less on hold for the moment.
  • Saint City Sinners (Dante Valentine #4) by Lilith Saintcrow - currently reading, like 120 pages in. The start of tis book hurt so much, I haven't picked it up again, apparently I got way more attached to the characters then I thought I did because ow.
  • The Final Empire (Mistborn #1) by Brandon Sanderson -  first book in the Mistborn series. I'm about a third into it so far. And I'm going to continue taking it slow, though I 'd like to finish it next month.
  • The Inventor's Secret by Andrea Cremer - I started listening to this on the audiobook. I really like the idea of audiobooks, but since I don't commute to anything, or don't really have time where I couldn't physically read - they can be more of a problem then anything else, they're just so slow compared to my reading speed.
  • Also I'm currently rereading two books that I loved the first time around. Ready Player One and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'm halfway through  Ready Player One and I'd almost forgotten how rich and amazing this world was, and how much I loved this characters, and I feel like i"m seeing things I missed the first time (and seconds, I actually listened to this one on audio because Wil Wheaton, mostly while I was mining on Minecraft).

Recently Finished:
I've finished a lot of books since I did my WWW Wednesday last month (hopefully I can keep up with these a little better) so I'm just going to list the last handful of them or so. In order of the most recently finished.

What in God's Name by Simon Rich (5/5)
So hilarious and good, and I flew through this book in just about one sitting. It's full of shenanigans and just some great fun.

Elusive Memories (The Hunted #1) by Amanda Shofner (5/5)
You might of heard of Amanda if you recently participated in the Bout of Books read-a-thon as her and Kelly are who run it. This came out like right at the beginning of it, I can't remember the exact day, and I ended up just buying it. And was very pleasantly surprised, I ended up reading this in mostly on sitting - something about the world and characters just sucked me straight it and about two hours later - I was done.

Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery #1) by Kim Harrison (4/5)
This reminded me, reading the synopsis, of a show that's been over for years now called Dead Like Me, so I had to give it a shot. And was surprised - it did remind me a bit of that show, but it was so different and had a broader world. I'm excited to continue on with this series soon, I've got the second and last book in this series standing by.

To Read Next:
Well I'd really love to, you know, knock those 'currently reading' books out, the ones currently listed above that is, but also all of those other - I really don't like being over 10 on goodreads, which will probably take me until next Wednesday to even consider picking up more books, so I'm not going to bother listing more.

And I think I'm just going to leave it there, I've been considering doing a "summer reading plans" kind of thing, and it might be kind of cool to do quarterly reading updates about my progress and what I want to read during the next chunk of the year. Anyway - I hope you read something good recently and if you did - what was it? And what are you currently reading?

WWW Wednesday (16)

I'm currently-reading six books according to Goodreads, which isn't that bad in all honesty, and I just finished a book yesterday (Tuesday). However -

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
I'm not that far into this one only about 50 pages or so, but I am really enjoying it so far, and I'm intrigued. I just kind of accidentally sent myself on a SciFi kick and this one is mysterious and such - but not quite what I'm craving. (Not saying it isn't freaking fantastic, and I do hope to finish it before the month ends, at least).

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
This book. It's psychological and creepy and confusing - and I love it, so much. I started reading this book in February, but I'm enjoying taking it slow, though I would like to just finish it already, I want to know what happened. Also - if you're scared to pick up this book because of the side, or because of the weird formatting - just jump in and go with it. There isn't a right or wrong way to read this book, it's kind of like an adventure in itself and, even not having finished it yet, I can tell it's worth it.

Read:
(In order from most recent, to least recent)

The Martian by Andy Weir (5/5 stars)
So great, loved it. It's hilarious to begin with, and I keep seeing it described as kind of MacGyver in space and I totally stick by that, it's just like that, except a little more... space/SciFi-y. Either way, highly recommended, loved the narrator/main character, and the whole thing.

Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse #1) by James S.A. Corey (5/5)
Epic space opera with a mix of horror and some classic noir, even. I loved this book to just pieces. Maybe it was just exactly what I was crazing, still kind of am, so it just - hit all the right notes with me. There's some humor in this too, of course, and some truly fantastic characters. They're flawed and maybe not lovable o everyone, as I'm sure this book also isn't for everyone, but I did really love it. Plot, writing, characters - whole bundle.

Redshirts by John Scalzi (5/5)
Okay - so I know I said those two up there were good, and they were really good, but I read this before them. And this really hit me off towards some SciFi (and more SciFi with a crew). I read War of the Worlds just before this and went - SciFi, need to read more of that, and this was close at hand. I've been reading to read this book since it came out. I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I am a bit of a fan of some other series that have space scenes in later seasons - anyway, even without that, I'm pretty sure I would of loved it. It was just perfect. Highly recommended, check it out and laugh through it.

To-Read:
I always have such a hard time with saying what I'll be reading next, because - I mean I'd kind of like to finish House of Leaves before I start anything else. However, I did get Caliban's War in the mail yesterday (it's book two in the Expanse series, and the full paperback was like $6 on Amazon the day I finished Leviathan Wakes, I couldn't say no), and I'm really itching to pick that one up.

So hopefully I don't do the thing where I write it down and then it doesn't happen, that's always annoying. I listened some random books on my April TBR that I don't think I'll be getting to now, at least not in April. Life stuff happened, which is why there hasn't really been anything up this month and I'm sorry for that, but the life stuff happened hard - and now it's not quite so worry level 100, so I thought I'd try and get back with one of these memes that'll get me writing about books again and that I really enjoying doing (and reading, I love reading about what other people are reading and their thoughts).

And now I'm going to stop rambling, this isn't suppose to be a post to ramble on. So - long story short: Caliban's War, House of Leaves, or maybe something else next, but I'd like to read both this much if possible. At least start Caliban's War this month.

I hope your months are going well, in general and on the reading front, and I'm love to hear what you're currently reading or what you just finished or what you're planning on reading next, leave me a comment below!

WWW Wednesday (15)

Ah, my favorite meme. Kind of like a wrap-up but in more detail, just full on information on what I am reading, what I finished reading, and what I might read next! WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. She asks that you answer three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

Currently-Reading:
I'm very, very little into the next books in the Anita Black and In Death series, but kind of stalled in both, at barely 30 pages.

Read:
Midnight in Death (In Death #7.5) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
Might have missed this in my read through of this series, but I didn't get very far before I caught it, it was really good, just a Novella type of thing, I'm pretty sure only available in ebook, but it was really good.

Loyalty in Death (In Death #9) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
This one was also very good. I'm getting so far in this series, that's all I want to say so I don't accidentally give anything away!

Hamlet by William Shakespeare (5/5)
Technically for school, but I did read it all the way through before having to write things about it and I really enjoyed it.

A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare (5/5)
Very good, I really liked this one, probably because of the mischievous faeries. I know it was probably them.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (5/5)
This book was fantastic and amazing! If you haven't picked it up yet, you definitely should. It's amazing, the writing is my favorite part and the characters are amazing.

Aesop's Fable by Aesop (5/5)
This was really good. Really enjoyed it.

George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl (4/5)
This was good, but - I don't know, it sat weird with me. Maybe I read it to early in the day for magic medicine? Whose to know.

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupèry (5/5)
An amazing book. I read it in English, but I hope to eventually read it in French. Either way, beautiful and heartbreaking.

The Field Guide (Spiderwick Chronicles #1) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
Fantastic first book to this series. I listened to it in audio format and - it just wasn't for me, the weird voice and stuff, shook me out of the story. However, the book itself is amazing, glad I gave it a second chance.

The Seeing Stone (Spiderwick Chronicles #2) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
Loved this one, too! A further look into the fairy lore of this world.

Lucinda's Secret (Spiderwick Chronicles #3) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
A little more information in this one. These are so short, but at least I had the thing of them or I would of been dying for more.

The Iron Woodtree (Spiderwick Chronicles #4) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi (5/5)
I liked this one, too, obviously I'm trying to say as little as possible to not spoil anyone. Love this series, though!

This is Water by David Foster Walace (the 30min audiobook) (5/5)
I'd seen a video, featuring audio from this and was instantly intrigued and had to know what i meant, so I picked it up off Audible for about $4. There's a physical, dead tree version, that is much longer, but it's not coming in the mail for a while. I'd recommend this to everyone.

The Wrath of Mulgarath (Spiderwick Chronicles #5) by Holly Black and Tony DeTerlizzi
Such a fantastic end to the series! So glad this one was longer, was feeling like there was no way they could give us all the story in one more book. Very, very good.

The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia #3) by C.S. Lewis (4/5)
Actually enjoyed this one. A bit slow at first and dragged a bit at the end, but otherwise good.

Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1) by Ridley Pearson (5/5)
Ah! Can't wait to read more in this series. This one was really, really good. I could barely put it down! Recommended to those who even remotely like Disney or wondered what happens in the park after dark. Very good.

To-Read:
I've got book two of the Kingdom Keeper's series that I'm dying to read, so excited for more of this series. I'm pretty much surrounded by books right now because of the read-a-thon. I scheduled this before it started and had to just add ten more books to it. Ten. (What read-a-thon, you ask? Monday kick-off post and day one wrap-up)

WWW Wednesday (14)

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should be Reading. She asks that you answer three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

So this is what i've been reading recently. I've been reading quite a bit, but haven't had enough to say about any of them to write up a full review, except on one or two. Maybe.

Currently-Read:
Making my way through a couple. I started Caroll's Through the Looking Glass, but I'm not sure when I'll finish it. It's a bit too crazy to be taken in large doses. Also making my way through Aesop's Fable's, which I'm really enjoying.

And, finally - besides the two series I'm going through - Ready Player One. This book is fantastic so far, and the only reason I haven't continued it is because I really don't want to finish it because it's so good. And I can think about it for days, but I do want to finish it soon.

Read:
Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #3) by Laurell K. Hamilton (4/5)
This one was pretty good, too. All of these books are just fun to read and completely insane. I don't want to say anymore since this is the third book so...

The Lunatic Cafe (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #4) by Laurell K. Hamilton (5/5)
For some reason I just wanted to rate this one higher, I can't figure out what made me like it better, though.

The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia #2) by C.S. Lewis
I'm not really sure how I feel about this series so far, at all. So I'm just going to leave it at that.

Bloody Bones (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #5) by Laurell K. Hamilton (5/5)
I think this might be my favorite one so far. No idea why, but - it just had something.

Rapture in Death (In Death #4) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
These books are kind of like watching Law and Order episodes except they're about ten times better then most of those episodes and I can still tell you how they ended ten minutes later.

The Killing Dance (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton (4/5)
Pretty good. I always miss the characters that aren't in the currently ones, though... And scolding the characters is never really a good sign.

Ceremony in Death (In Death #5) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
This one was interesting. Still good, and there were a couple scenes with Peabody when I was laughing my ass off, I love their friendly teasing and banter, it's perfect.

Vengeance in Death (In Death #6) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
I liked it, a lot. Ireland is one of my favorite places and I've been a few times, family reunions and such. It's gorgeous and it was fun to see it from Eve's point of view.

Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders by Neil Gaiman (5/5)
This was fantastic. I adored all the stories and poems. I really want to do a full review of this one and point out my favorites.

Holiday in Death (In Death #7) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
Ah, the holidays. Full of murder and cheer, as they should be.

Conspiracy in Death (In Death #8) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
This was was really good, too. These books are like Law and Order episodes but about 150% better, with better characters. (The characters are my favorite part of this series, it's why I can't seem to stop reading them).

To Read:
Well, I'm planning on continuing the In Death and the Anita Blake series, hopefully reading as many in them as I can (I've heard not so good things about the Anita Blake books after Obsidian Butterfly, but that the newest one is picking back up in quality. Any opinions?)

WWW Wednesday (13)

Back in the swing of things, at least kind of. Another WWW Wednesday. Normally I only do these every other week, but thought since I had a few already, I might as well do another.

WWW Wednesday is a meme run by MizB at Should be Reading, and she asks that you answer these three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

  • Currently-Reading:
I got my currently-reading list on Goodreads down a bit. It still has quite a few, but I feel like it always will, it's below 10 and that's kind of all I can hope for, I think.

I'm almost 50% through The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and just over in Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman. I also started The Circus of the Damned yesterday and am a good amount through that. And I'm sure there's more, I don't have everything on Goodreads.

    Read:
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (3/5)
I don't know why, but there's just something about this that makes it so hard to get into. Maybe it's too hard to suspend by disbelief or maybe it's how much Alice just annoys me, either way, it's an okay read, but - can be too crazy and for me that's saying something

Glory in Death (In Death #2) by J.D. Robb (5/5)
This one, I feel, was a bit better then the first.

    IT by Stephen King (5/5)
A reread of an old favorite. I've read this book many, many times and it's fantastic and I notice something different every time.

The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton (4/5)
Good. This world is very interesting and it always has some amusing and funny parts. I've heard that the series goes very down hill later, but - for now it's pretty good.

    To-Read:
I want to finish those that I mentioned up above in currently-reading and book three in the In Death series, just barely started. Also, Hunter's Prayer and Grave Peril, I've really got to get around to finishing series instead of just starting them all the time.

    WWW Wednesday (12)

My first one of these of the year. I can't believe I haven't done one yet! I'm slowly getting out of my reading slump and at least I've read something. Anyway, WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading and it's asked you answer there three questions:

    • What are you currently reading?
    • What did you recently finish reading?
    • What do you think you'll read next?

    Currently-Reading:
Not as many books as normal, surprisingly. I'm at about 5, I think, on Goodreads, normally I'm 10-12, but I'm not complaining, I don't think it's a bad things, that's for sure.

    Read:
Ubik by Philip K. Dick (5/5)
I did a very long review on this one, that I'm kind of proud of, that you can find here.

You Have to Stop This (Secret #5) by Pseudonymous Bosch (5/5)
Very good end to an amazing series, truly. I adored this series and I put off reading this one because I didn't want it to end.

My Story by Marilyn Monroe (5/5)
This is very good. I don't think I'll review it, just because I really don't know what to say about it, but it was good.

The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
I really enjoyed this book, it was so interesting and complex, and had so much story packed in it without feeling overwhelming.

Marilyn: Her Life in Her Own Words... by George Barris (4/5)
It was okay, good even, and I really enjoyed reading more about her.

A Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman (5/5)
First Audiobook of the year! And it was very short, but I couldn't find an ebook copy. Anyway, this is a fantastic short story, I really wish that it was longer, I'd love to spend more time in this universe.

The Violinist's Thumb: And Other Lost Tales of Love, Lost, and Genius, as Written in Our Genetic Code by Sam Kean (5/5)
This was an amazing book about our DNA and everything about it, a very interesting read and an all around fantastic book. I'm kind of hoping to do a full review on this one, we'll see.

Naked in Death (Death #1) by J.D. Robb AKA Nora Roberts (4/5)
This book was okay. I may have suspected who the killer was right away, but I have read way too many books like this. It has SciFi elements that are just cliche and kind of unimportant. It was pretty good, though, considering that. And, oddly enough, this was published the year I was born so that's weird.

Robot Dreams by Sara Varon (5/5)
This was an amazing book, considering there's no dialogue in it and, really, no words. It's a graphic novel and had an amazing story, the end kind of stomped on my heart, but - it was bittersweet and perfect. I'd highly recommend it!

The Magician's Nephew (Chronicles of Narnia #1) by C.S. Lewis (5/5)
I've never actually read the Narnia books, I'm not entirely sure why, but as a kid I guess I just didn't get to them before I made the leap into YA and horror (mostly horror, at first I skipped right over YA). But this was really good and I'm excited to read the others in the series.

The Regulators by Stephen King (5/5)
Finished just before midnight on Wednesday and thought I might as well add it. An awesome book and I'm still processing it but it was amazing!

    Read Next:
I have no idea. I have so many books I haven't read, and a couple I have to get through for school, and just a lot of books everywhere.

    WWW Wednesday (11)

And it is that time of the week again. I was going to start with these every other week, like I was doing them before, but I kind of really enjoy doing them. I like seeing what other people are reading and sharing what I'm reading. WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading and it's asked you answer there three questions:

    • What are you currently reading?
    • What did you recently finish reading?
    • What do you think you'll read next?

    Currently-Reading:
So, so many things. Why do I read so many books at once? But, in all seriousness, I am trying to get through quite a few books currently. So many. Recently, however, I started Treasure Island and am a good 1/3 through it, probably, and it's pretty good so far, I'm liking it. I alo found my copy of Throne of Glass that I started a long time ago and then couldn't find to finish.

    Read:
How They Met, and other stories by David Levithan (5/5)
So very, very good. I've loved everything I have read by David and I expect to continue to.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (5/5)
I loved this one. I don't know why it took me so long to read, but it was just fantastic.

Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels Trilogy #1) by Anne Bishop (4/5)
I've been reading this one for what feels like forever and I was finally able to just sit down and finish it while I had a cold and it was pretty good, actually. I didn't really know what to think of this one, but I ended up really liking it.

Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine #1) by Lilith Saintcrow (5/5)
I'm going to be posting a full review of this very soon and I'll add it to this most when I do, however, I really did enjoy this book. There were a couple things that just annoyed me, but I'm good at just kind of accepting (ignoring) things like that. Technically finished it really, really early Wednesday morning, but - I don't count it as the next day until I've slept.

    Want To Read:
Too many books to read. There are currently over 900 books on my to-read list on Goodreads and I'm sure that there are thousands more I simply just don't know about yet.

    WWW Wednesday (10)

This is one of my favorite memes to do and to read. I have no idea why, I just find it kind of fun to share what I'm reading and to see what everyone else is reading. So, without any more of my rambling, here we go. WWW Wednesday is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading and she asks that you answer these three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you'll read next?

  • Currently-Reading:
I am currently-reading so many books, so many. But, mainly, Mort by Terry Pratchett (book 4 in the Discworld series) and for some reason I'm just having a hard time staying into it. It's good just... weird.

    Read:
1776: A Story in Tweets by Maureen Johnson (5/5)
I am including this just because I loved it so much. I got it through donating to the HPA for equality for the win and I'm kind of excited about it. It was really hilarious.

Doctor Who: Ring of Steel by Stephen Cole (3/5)
This was good. I've listened to many Doctor Who audiobooks lately I don't even know what to do with them. None of them seem really amazing, but this might because of the audiobook form. I just have such a problem getting really into the story even in the narrator is Matt Smith or Arthur Darvill (this one is narrated by Arthur, by the way. They're both really good at it, I'm just apparently bad at getting into Audiobooks sometimes).

World War Z by Max Brooks (5/5)
I have a book review coming out for this tomorrow (Thursday) so I don't want to say too much, but it was really, really good. I'm not going to tell you to read it, because I don't really like that, but if it's in your TBR I'd definitely say it's worth it.

Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid #1) by Richelle Meade (5/5)
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel going into this. I kept picturing the main girl from Lost Girl, which is actually not a bad thing at all, and I really, really liked this one. I actually didn't expected to, but it was well written, witty, and had me guessing (which I wasn't expecting). I'll be posting a full review of this soon.

Jack the Ripper: Hell Blade, Vol 1 by Je-Tae Yoo (2/5)
The only reason I gave it two instead of one star is because I wasn't exepecting the ending and it made everything more more sense (kind of). This sounds like an amazing idea is theory, but I was really underwhelmed by it. I noticed too many places where details could of been but weren't and the pentical wasn't inverted, and it annoyed me too much.

    Want to Read Next:
So many books. I have so many books on be to-read list on Goodreads and some that I own I haven't even added to that list! This is definitely not a bad thing, just there are so many books! I did a December TBR, though, which lists what I basically want to read for the month.

    WWW Wednesday (8)

Hello blog, I have missed you! School started and everything went a little haywire, but I am back now (hopefully). I'm not taking an extreme number of classes but I am taking the SATs pretty soon and an AP class (AP Lit, of course) and getting prepared to apply to college, so everything is a bit stressful.

I haven't done a WWW Wednesday in much too long and I have missed it so! Now, I am going to tell you what I have read since the last time we did one of these, but that's not as many books as I would like. This is hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and she asks that you answer 3 questions:
    • What are you currently reading?
    • What did you recently finish reading?
    • What do you think you'll read next?

    Currently-Reading:
Probably too many books, as always.

    Recently Finished:
I actually read a couple things I am only going to mention in passing. I read a couple books that might not count as full books to some people but I counted them and I kind of want to review ones picture book or not. A friend of mine may or may not of had a birthday party that included reading things outloud like picture books and the like (be jealous). I read The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, The Wolves in the Walls, and Evelyn, Evelyn which goes with the CD released by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley. All of these were fantastic. And then, I forced myself out of the biggest reading slump that's ever happened to me...

Ill Wind (Weather Warden #1) by Rachel Caine (4/5 stars)
This book was much better then expected, just ignore the crushed velvet and everything will be fine. In all seriousness, though, I did like this book much more then I expected. There were some turns I didn't expect, and don't really feel were explained enough but I've given up on it and just accepted it, also, Djinn, how can you go wrong with them.

The Color of Magic (Discworld #1) by Terry Pratchett (5/5 stars)
I just posted my full review of it here so I don't think I can say much more. To sum it up this is a fantastic first book in the series and it was hilarious and I can't wait to read more.

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Huunter #1) by Laurell K. Hamilton (4/5 stars)
I've heard so many good things about this book so I didn't really know what to expect but it was pretty good, there were even parts I really liked. It was a short, cute read.J

The Name of this Book is Secret (Secret #1) by Pseudonomous Bosch (5/5)
This series is fantastic, so very hilarious and so good. I loved the characters, the writing, and the plot. It was just so much fun to read! I definitely recommend this series. It's middle-grade, yes, but it's very, very good.

If You're Reading This, It's Too Late (Secret #2) by Pseudonomous Bosch (5/5)
This one was almost better then the first one because we already knew the main cast of characters and I love that. So excited to read the rest of this series.

A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner (3/5 stars)
You know how I mentioned that AP Lit course? Both this and the next one are apart of that. This is a short kind of creepy story, but I liked it plenty.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (5/5 stars)
If I could give this one 6/5 stars, I would. This book is fantastic and I loved it. I tweeted and posted on Goodreads the moment I realized that I truly loved this book. And I really did, I really loved some parts of this, well, really I loved this whole book. And the movie is coming out like next week and I am so glad to have read this before seeing it because this book is perfect. I have a lot of feelings about this boom, okay?

Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures Vol1 by Laurell K. Hamilton and Others (4/5)
I really like comic book/graphic novel/whatever versions of books, it's intereting to see the story in a new media and I've never regretted reading one. It's so interesting to see what someone else thinks the characters look like, compared to what you visualized. This one was pretty good, too, going to pick up vol. 2 probably very soon (I got it for $5 at Newberry Comics. Bam).

    Want To Read Next:
I'm currently-reading too many things to have listed up there but I'd also really like to read ThebDiviners by Libba Bray and many, many other books. Hopefully, I'll have the time eventually.

    WWW Wednesday (6)

I haven't done one of these in a while! This is weird but I like it. The reason I haven't done one of these in a while is because (1) i was away with no internet and (2) I wasn't reading. But now here is everything I am currently reading, want to read, and might read next since my last WWW Wednesday. Warning: will be a long post.
(You should all know by now that WWW Wednesday is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading, as you can see in that little picture over there).

    Currently-Reading:
I'm about 50% through Enders Game and Fahrenheit 451 and hope to finish both soon, this month at the very least.

    Read:
Soulless, The Manga Vol. 1 by Gail Carriger (author) (5/5)
This is, obviously, the Manga version of the first book in the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger and is amazing, I really enjoyed seeing this book in a different media. I love this series and think that Alexia is kick-ass and one of my favorite heroins for sure. I'd recommend reading the books first, because I feel like you get more from them. (Maybe 16+, because this is not a YA book, but I'm sure you all know your limits).

The Land of Stories: The Wishing Well (The Land of Stories #1) by Chris Colfer (3/5)
This is the fabulous Chris Colfer's debut middle grade book that continues the fairy tale stories that we all know and love, or hate, through these two twins who make their way into the fairy tale world. I really liked this book, the writing felt a little weird at times, but it is a debut and I still really liked where he took it, so I'd recommend it. My full review here.

A Mutiny in Time (The Infinity Ring #1) by James Dashner (5/5)
This is a book about two best friends who somehow stumble upon a device that, with some help, can travel in time and, of course, shenanigans and adventure go from there. I'm really excited about this series and can't wait to see what happens next. This is a middle-grade, also, and an extremely well written one for that. Full review for this one will be posted closer to the release date.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1) by Laini Taylor (5/5)
Why did no one force me to read this sooner? I'm sure you all heard the buzz about this one when it first came out last year and it definitely lived up to it, an amazing read and anyone who hasn't read this one should, though I imagine most of you have, I'm probably the last person to. This is YA and was a debut last year. My review can be found here.

God Save the Queen (The Immortal Empire #1) by Kate Locke (5/5)
I raved about this one already on twitter and in my review, but I'll do it here, too. I adored this book, loved it to pieces. It's so different from other books I've read, definitely different then other Steampunk. I'm not going to tell you anything about it, just go ahead and jump in. The history that's incorporated is one of my favorite parts about this series. This one isn't YA or middle-grade either, so keep that in mind.

    Grim by Anna Waggener (4/5)
This is a debut about a women, Erika, who dies and then ends up kind of trapped in limbo. She has three kids and she doesn't want to leave them and this book is amazing and tragic and a beautifully written YA debut. I hope to post my full review very soon, probably this week or next.

Desperate Duchesses (Desperate Duchesses #1) by Eloisa James (3/5)
This is NOT my normal book, as I'm sure you've noticed, but it was for a book club I'm part of and I did end up really enjoying it. Sometimes it's nice to read something that doesn't have a dark undertone and is just fluff, like brain candy. This was my first historical romance, and I think the reason I enjoyed it as much as I did, is because Eloisa James' writing is just so very good, I enjoyed it at least. (Definitely not YA, also).

The Iron Duke (Iron Seas #1) by Meljean Brook (3/5)
This was an interesting book. This one was also Steampunk, but completely different then God Save the Queen. I didn't enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed the second one, but I'll probably post a full review on this one to explain why.

Heart of Steel (Iron Seas #2) by Meljean Brook (4/5)
It says this on and Iron Duke are part of the same series, but they are about two different couples. They're in the same world and know each other and everything, but completely different perspectives. I enjoyed this one so very much, maybe because the main guy of the story was so much... better. Both of these, by the way, aren't YA but they are good Steampunk (and romance) books

Kushiel's Dark by Jacqueline Carey (5/5)
I adored this book. It was long and filled with intricate politics, but it also had an amazing plot and amazing (and heartbreaking) characters. This is definitely not a book everyone will enjoy, I have no doubts of that, but it's beautifully written and I really did enjoy it.

    Might Read Next:
Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey
I really need to start this one. It's for a book club and it's gigantic. It looks really good, though. It just may take me a while to get through.

    WWW Wednesday (5)

This meme is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading. Personally, I only do it every other week, but I hope you enjoy it and if you do a WWW Wednesday or something else feel free to link me in the comments!

It's asked that you answer these three questions:

    • What are you currently reading?
    • What did you recently finish reading
    • What do you think you'll read next?

    Currently Reading:

Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams
I've been loving this series, it's hilarious. I'm not that far through this one, but loving it so far.

    Ender's Game
This book is really good, I just can't seem to read more then 20-30 pages at a time without wanting to throttle at least 1/2 of the characters, so then I put it down. So this one may take me a while.

    Recently Finished:

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's 1) by Douglas Adams (5/5)
I've been wanting to start this series for a while, and as you can see above I'm loving it. This book was nothing like I expected. I picked it up a while ago and then never got about to finishing it. And these last two weeks I've been in a bit of a reading slump so I thought I'd try something different. And this is definitely different then a lot of things I read and it was amazing. I would reccomend this to anyone who doesn't mind that the story only makes sense about 25% of the time.

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (Hitchhiker's #2) by Douglas Adams (5/5)
This book was just as good as the first, this book is one I can't predict really what could happen next because, as I said, it rarely makes any sense. Though, now that I think about it, it's probably one of the reasons that I love it so much.

    What I Might Read Next:

I'm not even going to try this week. I'm currently in New York City for BEA and I have no idea what books I'll be getting, but whatever I get, I'll be reading that.  (I love New York and it's, I'm sure, going to be a blast and well worth the 4 hour drive it took to get here. And all the school work I'm going to have to make up, I didn't even bother bringing my textbooks because I know I won't have the time). I wrote this very early Monday morning to make sure that I had at least one post up this week, so I'm sorry if there are any mistakes but my interent will be limited the rest of the week. Internet is expensive, I always forget that.
