#Debutathon - A readathon

This is a read-a-thon hosted by Amber at Books of Amber. The debutathon is a week long read-a-thon all about reading books by debut authors - basically, books that came out this year where the author hadn't previously been published. The read-a-thon runs from the beginning of December 8th to the end of December 14th (your time zone).

The post has links to certain lists if you're at a lost for ideas of what to read. Sadly, I'm not lacking ideas. Or books. I'm always buying new releases and then, too many times, I don't get to them for a while. So I actually have a stack of recently released debuts that I'd love to get to during the week. I have no idea how many books I'm going to be getting to, but I thought I'd just list the books I could read (aka: the ones I want to that I won).

• The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen- I want to read this, because I'm over halfway through it, I just want to finish it. I don't know why I haven't yet. I was loving it and it's still really good, I just stopped and have had a hard time getting back to it.
• Otherbound by Corinne Duyvis - just short of 400 pages, but apparently has a very diverse cast and I've heard really good things about it. 
• Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne - also just short of 400 pages. Fantasy and I've heard good things, also, and I'm pretty sure I preordered this?
• Snow Like Ashes by Sara Saasch - also don't know what it's about (I swear I knew more what these were about when I bought them, but I've forgotten. I think it's post apocalyptic or dystopian). it's a bit over 400 pages and I've heard good things.
• Jackaby by William Ritter - about 300 pages. I've been hearing some eh things, some really good things. This sounds like something right up my alley, though, so hopefully I love it. 
• Every Breath by Ellie Marney - Sherlock stuff. I love Sherlock stuff. And I think I've heard just good things. I haven't looked too far into this, just saw a good review from a person I trust and... now here we are.
• Grave's Guide: The Art of Pretending to be a Grown-up by Grace Helbig - this counts, right? It is a debut book. I'm not sure if I'll read this one, but it's only like 240 pages and I'm sure will be hilarious (and possibly have some actual helpful things?). 
• Red Rising by Pierce Brown - some people have been reading the sequel recently (which comes out in early 2015. I want to say January, but I'm not sure). It sounds really good, and I just ordered the paperback (I was convinced by Crini's review).

I think that's all of them, that I own. See what I mean? I have read a good amount of the new releases I've bought, but I fell behind when suddenly all of the books started coming out. I also own Conversion, but it doesn't like it's going to be a fast read (I think there's time jumping, I think just in the narrative?, and Salem witch trials).

I'm definitely not going to be able to read them all, but - I'd like to read a few of them? A good few, even, if I can. 1-5 is currently my goal, 2-5 really but putting pressure on myself never ends well. However, if I only finish The Queen of the Tearling, I'll also be happy. I'll be posting a wrap-up post at the end of the week.

I'm such a mood reader and I haven't been in a reading mood all month, that I might end up reading other books during the week. Obviously, I won't count them towards this read-a-thon, but that's why I'm not aiming too high. Maybe I'll be able to work through the pile, that'd be good. (God, I have so many books I want to finish before the end of the year...)

Accidental 24in48 (a readathon) Wrap-Up (+ tiny updates)

Saturday I was just really struggling to write anything, I didn't know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go with any of my stories. And this had been going on for a few days. So, Saturday, I took a break and only write 4k and then watched some people play video games. And then decided to read, because I haven't had a lot of time to read this much and I was miss it.

And I was seeing all these people going to be reading as much as they could over the weekend, so I thought I'd join in. I didn't end up reading for a long time, no where close to 24 hours, but I was able to finish a few books, start others, it was fun. And I'm glad I did it.

I got off the computer at about seven thirty on Saturday to read and I think I was 100 pages into White Cat - which I finished. And then picked up Red Gloves - finished. And then Black Heart - also finished. I read the whole series in about 7 hours, I want to say. I don't know how it happened, but if you know the books you know they're not that long, and I loved it.

I've learned I definitely enjoy series more when I just read them like that, one after the other. And maybe other people would like to take their time, and I definitely want to with some series, but others, that I know I'll like anyway, flying through them is so much fun. I love just being locked in that world and marathoning series has definitely become a favorite thing to do this year, I've always wanted to do it, but this year I've actually done it a few times.

Time spent reading: 8 hours, 30 minutes

I wish I had been able to take more time to read, because I guess I technically failed the objective, but everyone else reading and posting TBRs definitely pushed me to read. And I definitely, actually, think it helped, because the only reason I haven't read anything more is because I've been writing since I woke up.

I really like this idea, though, reading 24 hours over 48, mostly because it involved sleep and I'm currently at the point where I really like sleep (the other point is thinking sleep takes too much time, too many things to do. Which can also be fun). I think I'll probably end up honestly trying to read for that time over two days in December, I'm kind of planning on most of December being about reading and blogging, I'm really excited about it.

The lovely Crini at All About Books and Elena (whose blog is in German, but pretty. Google translate failed me). Announcement post for this. This is part of their A Year of Reading Brandon Sanderson. This is, obviously, 25 hours of reading Brandon Sanderson books (whichever you want). I don't think I'll be able to go for it all, I know I won't since I didn't sleep well last night, but I'll try and go for a while.

I'll probably be mostly tweeting/social media-ing updates (Twitter, Instagram, Goodreads). However, I'm going to try and remember to - and there are questions.

Start: What book are you going to read and why?
I think Alcatraz book two, I read book one a little while ago and it was ridiculous and I loved it, so I'm excited for book two - and it'll be a quick, fun read. Hopefully. I don't know what after that - maybe Elantris.

+04h: Did you set yourself a goal for the read-a-thon? Have you read a Sanderson book before? If so, which one?
I didn't, because it was very last minute and ExtraLife is going on at the same time, and I always try to watch as much as the stream as I can because it's so much fun. And, of course, try to donate in some way (the RoosterTeeth poster this year was too good to pass up).
I have read quite a few of his books (The Way of Kings, Mistborn trilogy, Warbreaker, Steelheart, Rithmatist, The Emperor's Soul, Legion). I want to reread WoK before WoR - which I've been saying at this point for months but I think will happen in December or else.

+08h: Where do you read?
On my couch, mostly, there's a chaise part so I can lay down and relax.

Reading update: I've only read to like chapter four, I ended up taking a nap after getting to there and have yet to read anything further (soon). I'd like to finish at least this one for the read-a-thon, but I'm also enjoying reading what others are up to. (currently-reading Alcatraz #2).

+12h: Who is your favorite character so far?
As I'm reading Alcatraz #2 - probably Alcatraz, but I also really enjoy Bastille.

Edit: I did for the book I'm currently reading, or else it'd be probably a 5 paragraph essay.

+16h: What is your favorite quote from the book so far?
The Alctraz series has a very strange, fantastically weird sense of humor that's very Sanderson. (Speaking of, I've only read two chapters more then last update, and then I'm going to take a nap, and then I'll work on it, I promise. I'll finish it today, the 26th, I just don't know if it'll be before the time cut off).

(...) Dangerous, but unseen. (Kind of like those troublemakers who read fantasy novels).

And I'm sure there are a ton more, but they're mostly very long. I do really love this one, though.

+20h: Who would you cast as the main character(s) in the book?
Mmmh, I don't know? I mean he's a thirteen year old boy, I can't think of a particular person, but I'd definitely want the decription to match and the actor to be young himself, close the thirteen, and have the acting ability to pull of Alcatraz's personality.

End:  Did you enjoy your book? Any plans on reading another one soon?
I'm not quite done, I think I"m about 3/4th through it, at the moment, and I'm really enjoying it so far. And I'll definitely be reading another one soon - I want to keep going with the Alcatraz series and Elantris and then, like I mentioned, reread WOK and read WOR. I have anything he ever publishes or mentions publishing on my 'to read immediately' list.

Reading Update:
Almost forgot to mention the reading I got done - like I said, about 3/4th of the way. I'm reading from the bind-up of the series so I'm guessing/going by the chapters. Alcatraz is a very strange series of books that I really enjoy, but it definitely wouldn't be for everyone. Personally - I giggle to myself too much when reading it, which I'm not angry about at all.

The Little World of Liz Climo is really just a book compiling all of her adorable, awesome illustrations. She has a Tumblr - it's adorable and full of her stuff, you should  check it out (unless you have something to do right now, you might want to save it for later, you'll get lost).

Notes:
4am, when probably a good 85% of bad decisions, if not more, are made. I couldn't sleep, so I picked this up. I forget when I read the first one, but I hadn't been planning on continuing the series. I haven't found many New Adult books I enjoy, and I don't really understand the genre (it's - it's just romance). Anyway - this was... whatever. I gave it 2/5 stars, read it in probably an hour and a half, maybe two. I'll probably read the last one at some point just to finish it, we'll see.

I think I might be able to get to 200 books for 2014 this month? It seems insane to me. This has been such a strange year, but wonderful for reading.

Ah - Sanderson. If you follow me at all, or have seen just about any post from me, you might know of my obsession with Brandon Sanderson. I haven't finished really all of his currently published works, I'm making my way through the list, but I just keep loving them all. So much goodness. I'd suggest giving him a try, start anywhere, read everything.

And, uh, I kind of forgot this was the last day of the read-a-thon. My sleep has been a bit messed up, insomnia has been kicking my ass, so that's what I'm blaming because I didn't sleep and then slept late. And there was something else I wanted to add and promptly forgot, so I guess I'm going to leave it there.

Anyway - read-a-thon complete. I'm think I'll post a full wrap-up in a few days, probably. I'm quite happy with what I read, anyway, and I hope you had fun if you participated. Or, at least, had a good week.

Tackle Your TBR Wrap-Up

This was a read-a-thon run by Wishful Endings (read-a-thon announcement post here). And it ran from September 8th to the 20th. I got quite a bit of reading done and I enjoyed keeping up with other peoples progress through various social medias,

Sadly, I didn't end up taking part in any of the challenges that happened and, from what i saw, there were a lot of them and they looked like a ton of fun. Challenges just aren't really my thing, unless they're check box type things, but I always kind of regret not doing them. I tend to just try and focus on the reading during a read-a-thon, though, and, depending on my mood, commenting on blogs.

September 2014 Read-A-Thons Update Post (Tackle Your TBR & treesofreverie) (2)

So how did your Tackle Your TBR read-a-thon go? Or just how has your month been so far for reading?

Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon! (October 18th, 2014)

Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon is an even that takes place twice a year (April and October) and is, of course, a 24 hour read-a-thon. This year the October read-a-thon is taking place from 8am Eastern time - this is a read-a-thon where the time is specific (times here).

I've participated a few times before, I don't remember how many off the top of my head, but it's always a ton of fun. There are cheerleaders going around, who normally help you keep reading for the full twenty four hours (last year, one convinced me to try to get just a little more done). And everyone's lovely and fantastic.

So I'd suggest canceling all plans for the 18th and 19th and finding the shortest books you own and doing this. It's fun and you'll get more read in the short amount of time then you ever expected, I always seem to.

I'll be posting my TBR much closer to the event, as it's just under a month away now. Are you planning on participating? Have you in the past? What's your start time for your time zone?

This turned into the day where I read all the comics/graphic novels/manga that I'd wanted to read during this week. I meant to save them until the last day so it could be more relaxing, but now I'm glad I didn't because this wasn't relaxing, though it was a ton of fun.

First off - My Drunk Kitchen by Hannah Hart. If you don't know what this is, I'd suggest googling/youtubeing her and getting sucked into accidentally marathoning her show, because this book was fantastic. It's about life and everything - much more then about telling you how to cook, well, anything really.

The Infernal Devices manga was a lot of fun, and I'm glad I read it, because I really do like these characters. They're so emotional and there's so much pain - and, for some reason, I really like that in this story. Sea of Monsters was a good representation of the book, at least what I remember since I last read it, and I really loved the art style, but I kind of felt like it needed to be a little longer, I'm just not sure why.

I was sad to finish Isla - I read all tree of these books in like a week, which feels ridiculous, but they were good and fantastic and made high school drama work in a way that surprised me so much because that normally annoys me. Check out these books, and Steph Perkins will definitely be an author who I'll check out anything she ever writes, probably.

It was a weird day - it felt very short and very long at the same time. I'm hoping to get a little more then this done tomorrow. I have a secret hope to be able to pass my past personal best for a week long read-a-thon, but I am kind of truly doubtful that it's physically possible.

And the second day! This one flew by, it seems, how can it already be so late? When did it even get dark? Anyway - I got quite a bit of reading done that I'm happy with. Not a ton of reading, like yesterday, but adult SciFi and high fantasy is definitely slower reading then YA contemporary so I'm okay with that.

Notes/Thoughts:
Unlocked is the prequel to Scalzi's new novel that comes out at the end of the month called Lock In, and I really enjoyed it. It peaked my interest in the novel and was much different then the first chapter snipped for the book. This novella really reminded me of World War Z, strongly, but not in a bad way - it was very cool to read about it like how this was.

It's been three months since I started The Name of the Wind so I'm happy and relieved I've finally finished it. It was so good and has gorgeous writing, but it wasn't a book I could get through quickly - and just because it's 700+ pages.

Bout of Books 11: Day One Wrap-Up

Day one of the Bout of Books 11 read-a-thon! And it was a pretty great day, personally, and I actually took part in one of the challenges, which I don't know if I've ever done. It was the book scavenger hunt and you were suppose to post on Instagram (my post) and it was super cute. Heres the blog post explaining it, even though I think it was just a day one thing.

Also one thing I totally forgot to mention in my goals post is - I'd like to leave comments every day on people's blog posts. Not the same people and not a certain number, but I'm really bad at leaving comments and I've been getting better at it. It's still one of my goals, though, because I'll forget if I don't try and remind myself (I'm going to have to write myself a note, I just know it).

Notes/Thoughts:
Mortal Danger - I really enjoyed and the more I think about it, the more I liked it. I finished it pretty early in the day and, writing this later, I might forgive it that half star and just give it the full 5/5, because the problems I had with it were so small and it was so - different.

I didn't actually plan to start and finish Lola and the Boy Next Door today, because I'd already finished a book today. But then I kind of thought - why the hell not, and picked it up, knowing I probably wouldn't put it down until I was finished with it (and I was just about right with that).

Bout of Books 11 - The Goals/TBR Post

I just beat my past personal goal for a week read-a-thon, which had been held by Bout of Books 7, but i snow held by the BookTubeAThon last month (in page count, not in book count). So I'm not sure what my goals will be, I wish I could say to beat that goal for the BookTubeAThon but that's a lot of pressure and I don't like putting too much pressure on myself, like that, during a read-a-thon.

Most of my goals are pretty similar to what they've been in the past, such as:

• Read 300+ pages a day
• Finish, at least, an average of one book a day
• Basically: read as much as is physically possible while also keeping up with my daily writing goals, doing my daily update posts, and not going insane. 
• Participate in the Twitter chats! I have high hopes to participate in all of them, hopefully I'll be able to, since I love these Twitter chats. 
• Keep up with writing my daily 2k (at least most days)

I think those are my main goals, besides also have fun, don't stress out too much. Flailing, not failing. It's a good thing to remember, keep it in mind. Now, to go onto the actual, physical books, let's see. This is the main reason I didn't post this a week ago, because I wasn't sure what I'd read in that week and, therefor, what would be my TBR for this week.

And my TBR tends to shift and change even after the first day, so I'm hesitating to even post an idea of one. But I have a few ideas, and I even though I'm know I'm going to break it, I might as well. So, I'm just going to put a picture of a pile and I hope to read enough to fulfill my goals, or at least a few (from pile or not from pile). Also this doesn't include anything I'm currently reading, but -  those also.

These are all books I've just bought, pretty much, and so I'm really exited for which is why they're here.

I'd kind of like to see how long I could keep up the streak of finishing a book a day - but now that I've said that, it's not going to happen.

Also - The Darkest Part of the Forest was beautiful and amazing and creepy and fantastic and you should all go and preorder it.

Wednesday, August 13th:
Accidentally didn't read anything - it was a weird day, and I don't think really in a good way. I was suppose to go out today and hang out with a friend, obviously didn't happen. I mean I wrote a ton of words, which is normally always good, but it was a very blah day, I guess. Life never really stops being stressful, does it?

Anyway, that's not here or now at all. Hopefully I can actually read something tomorrow. And I'm going to a birthday party Friday and stuff is going down. And then Bout of Books starts Monday - which is going to be my serious reading week.

Do I really need to add anything about Anna and the French Kiss? You all have probably already read it. Mortal Danger is interesting so far, I'd started it before and then it somehow got forgotten even though I'd liked what I'd read. It takes place in Boston in a private school - and both of those things I am familiar with, so it's a little strange to read about but I'm liking it so far. So I started it again, hopefully I can finish it by Saturday, at least.

Anyway - I don't know how much I'll get nothing read tomorrow. Hanging out with friend, there's a birthday party, and then Haley (friend, not her birthday) is sleeping over.

And another read-a-thon is on it's way! I know I just put up that hiatus post, but I wanted to get this one out before LeakyCon as soon as I saw that the sign-up post was up, so I could get it out of the way. As you may know, Bout of Books is my favorite read-a-thon (how long it is, the twitter chats, seeing everyone reading and reading blog updates), so it shouldn't be a surprise that I'm planning on participating in this one. Hopefully I'm out of my blogging slump when it comes around and I have high reading goals for August!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It was a much better reading day then I expected because I didn't actually start reading until 8pm, I took most of the day to relax after the insanity that was the last week. However - I got way more read then I expected. I really loved the Zita the Spacegirl series, and the ending left me very happy, I'd definitely recommend this series.

I feel like I accidentally was taking part in the UnderHyped read-a-thon, the whole Zita series don't have as many reviews as I expected. I'm not taking part in it officially, though, even though I'm going to be keeping up with the people that are - I'm thinking of continuing my reread of Cassie Clare's books and then moving onto the ones I haven't read (Never read Clockwork Princess, I just knew it was going to hurt, and now I only vaguely remember the first two books).

BookTubeAThon - Day Seven and Final Wrap-Up

The last day of the BookTubeAThon was definitely not a good day for me, i didn't get much done and I didn't expect to with everything that was going on during the day.

Okay - I didn't read a single page the last day of this read-a-thon (in a read-a-thon - speaking of, I'm going to make a separate treesofreverie readathon post), it was very hectic and then I had a headache by the time I got home and I just didn't feel good over all.

I'm really, really happy about what I got read this week. I can't believe how much I read. The best I've ever done in a read-a-thon was May of 2013 (wrap-up), I'm going by page count because I feel like that's most important to me.

To continue to wrap up this read-a-thon, I finished all of the challenges, some of them might be in slight cheating ways but sometimes that's happens. I'm a very mood reader, but I read a surprising amount from my TBR post this week.
