October 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

October was one of those months that feels like it went by in a blink of the eye, like I got really nothing done, in all honesty (even though I did get a few things read), but the last week was mostly oh god it's NaNoWriMo next month, which wasn't fun and stressful.

That's a different post, though, that I hopefully right we'll see. October was a month where I wanted to read something horror - because Halloween - but I didn't really end up doing that. I'm in the middle of listening to The Shadow over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft (which I'm enjoying), but haven't been able to finish anything. There's always November when I get sick of typing, or December. Horror because of Christmas, perfect.

Anyway - what I read this month. 4 novels, 7 trades, 10 single issues. I have a feeling I'll be reading a bunch of single issues next month considering I just got my pull list and haven't had a chance to read any of them (whose behind? Pshhh.... I'm always behind for comics, I've accepted this).

Ended up being a bit of a Sanderson month, also want to reread his others I've read and get to the others I haven't read yet. (I got to see him, and he signed a few of my books, and it was really freaking awesome!!) And I guess on the horror front, Locke and Key definitely counts, and I love that damn series so much, pretty much what I read during Dewey's this year but no regrets!

There isn't much else to say that I can think of at the moment - Marvel comics are starting again, new Spider-Gwen and Iron Man, both I enjoyed. Also reread The Martian after I saw the movie, want to see the move again! - but if you've read any of these I'd love to talk about them with you, let me know in the comments, or what you're wrap up, what you're currently reading.

September 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

We're trying a slightly different format for the book and such part of the wrap up, I'm splitting it up into books (as in novels and the like) and then trades (trades and graphic novels and anything that'd fall into that area, like manga), rounding it out with single issues, which I think is pretty self explanatory. It just feels slightly more organized then just plain the order in which I read them (they're still in that order, just in their own lists now).

It was a good reading month, which I was slightly surprised to learn because it hadn't felt like a good one, but I got through a good number of things. Also a good number of really good things. I ended up reading 9 books, 2 trades/such, and 7 single issues. So it wasn't amazing, comparing it to some months in the past, but I'm really pleased with it. I've been trying to get back into reading regularly but not pushing myself to read ALL THE BOOKS, which is hard, but I've been so busy and also started doing other things with my down time (crocheting takes up time). Also, I've been trying to figure out my goals for reading by week, and looking back on this month, I definitely met the idea of reading 2 books a week, on average.

Some really good stuff this month - I finally got around to Blue Lily, Lily Blue (which didn't disappoint) and I also finished The Marvels (a new release and incredible) and The Things They Carried (which I'm pretty sure I'll be thinking about for a while). And that's just the books - Lady Killer, Volume One was incredible and I think I'll read in single issues instead of waiting for the next volume. Injection is also something I am totally into right now, it's definitely captured and been holding my attention.

August 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

August was a good month - there was less stress, though not all of my stuff is in one place yet - and more time to read and Bout of Books (which is always just fantastic, I adore talking to everyone and such, always fun).

And I got some good reading done, I ended up reading - 11 single issues, 6 trades/graphic novels, and 10 novels. And I'm feeling really good about those numbers, I'm hoping to read more in September but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself about it.

This month I'm just going to list everything and then embed the videos I did for wrap ups, instead of rambling on and on. And I'm not sure I could pick a favorite from this mnth, anyway, so many good books.

May 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

I can't believe May is over already, it was a crazy month, and I spent a lot of it trying to clean the house, packing the move out, and so not a lot of time reading. There was also a convention, that I want to make a post about but currently all I can form about Misti Con is - oh my god it was amazing, holy shit, I miss everyoneeeeee. And I don't you guys want to hear me wax poetry about how amazing everything was and how much I miss new/old friends.

Anyway - there was a read-a-thon this month, well more then one, but I really only participated in one. I have no idea when I'm moving, but I'm assuming it's early June so I'm trying to pack and you guys might understand how impossible it is to pack boxes. Especially when one has hundreds and hundreds of them - possibly 2,000 but we're not talking about that because I'll start to stress out more then I already am.

So I read a lot of comics this month - I got Marvel Unlimited this month and started just reading all the things on that, and comics are just easier when I'm stressing out. I read sixteen things and only two of those, I believe, were novels and they were both barely long enough to be considered that, hopefully next month is better, though it depends on when I can move in/start reorganizing everything.

I think I might be going on another hiatus until I'm moved and everything is set up because STRESS and no time to do anything fucking else. I'm also stuck in this strange cycle of not getting enough sleep, which was fine during a con but is not so fine right now.

April 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

It was a strange beginning of the month, it was one of those months that you can't quite believe was as long as it was. And I'm pretty sure it's because of how much I read. I didn't read an insane amount - well, a bit insane - but considering how much I've been reading, it was incredible.

So, I might have gotten my reading mojo back this month? Just a tiny bit? I'm so relieved, in all honesty. I don't even know what I was doing when I wasn't reading at this point - did some time gremlin eat those hours? (I honestly don't know what the hell I was doing).

Anyway - books! Read-a-thons! It was a fun month, for sure, and I got a ton of reading done, as you can see (and bought way too many books, but that's besides the point). Next month will definitely not be as many, purely because I'm going to MistiCon (a tiny HP convention in New Hampshire) and then, possibly, BEA (it's unsure at the moment, but I miss New York like crazy).

So I read a lot this month, and I read a lot of good stuff. I do the mini-reviews in my weekly wrap ups, so if you want to hear about something particular that is your best bet (links below). I don't even know where to start, considering this is the part I usually highlight my favorites.

Alright, well, I reread two of my all time favorite King books - Duma Key and IT, and I still just adore the hell out of them, it'd been too long. The Portrait of Dorian Gray was so interesting, and I'm a little sad I didn't read it earlier. Sex Criminals, Vol 2 and Ms. Marvel, Vol 2 were incredible and you need to give both of these series a try, even just dipping your toe in. And on the YA contemporary end, I read quite a few this month - I really enjoyed both of the A.S. King books I read, and freaking adored Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz.

March 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

March was... not a good month, probably the worst month I've had in a while. It goes up and down in ways that just are not preditable. Anyway, so that means I didn't get a lot of reading done. Honestly I am actually a little stunned to learn it was the end of the month, considering it felt like it couldn't possibly have been a month (right? right?!).

I did still, as you can see, read a handful of things, though. I finally finished Spook by Mary Roach - which I really, really enjoyed, but I knocked down a star just just a few reasons. I enjoyed her writing style, though, the way things flowed, even though sometimes it felt like too much information at once. Would still highly recommend and have already (barely) started Stiff by her.

And then I read a good few comics - volume one of Trees might be one of the best things I've read so far this year, definitely the best comic, and that's saying something. I'd highly recommend it, you need to go and check it out. The characters are so different and interesting, and their stories are as well, and the art is freaking gorgeous as hell, seriously. I'm tempted to now read anything and everything Warren Ellis has ever put out.
And I finished an actual fiction novel as one, just one. I'll Meet You There - a young adult novel about a girl from a middle of no where town and a boy she knew whose back from war. It wasn't as intense as I expected, but it is still very intense. I'd suggest it to people who know they'll be fine with it. It's heartbreaking at points, but she never digs very deep into the guys subconscious. Still - fantastic, important read. Especially considering it's YA.

I finally feel like reading again, though, the last few days. However, I'm not sure what'll happen with that for a few days as there was just an expansion released for the Sims 4 - aliens, playable jobs, fun stuff all around. I've already playing a little of it.

February 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

End of the shortest month of the year, and hopefully the least amount of books I read in a month. It was not a good reading month for me, and pretty much everything I read was in the first two weeks or so of the month (all of it that I finished).

I ended up binging some games, which I'm planning on posting something about, and then possibly becoming completely immersed in a fandom (which there will be more info on in the weekly wrap up). Apparently, I still have the ability to fall down the rabbit hole of a fandom so far I can't actually see daylight. Of course, considering I am currently insulated with like 5 feet of snow, which is as tall as I am, I guess I probably wouldn't be able to anyway.

I ended up reading some really good stuff this month, even though I didn't read a lot. 

I loved everything I read, as you can tell since I rated everything 5 stars. I'm counting the Red Years Quartet as being another finished series, counting the separate series as, well, separate series. And it's a fantastic series, but I don't think I'll do a full review of it. However, if you're not into reading about BDSM and all of the possible things related to it, I'd recommend not touching this series, they're intense as fuck, excuse the language. 

Anyway - I didn't get a lot read, I feel like I got almost nothing read with 6 books and 1 single issue, considering how much I read in January and how much I've read in months past. Still, I guess I was due an off month.
