January 2019 | Monthly Wrap Up

Here we go, back to my roots. I really love monthly or whatever wrap ups, depending on how much I've been reading. I was going to do January and February together but I read just so many things in January that I don't want to make that big of a post, January by itself is already a lot, and one I even considered splitting up. I'm still not fully sure what came over me in January but I read 40+ books.

I mean, over half was manga, but 12 of those were omnibus' and also there were a lot of novels/novellas in there as well. I don't know how this happened at all.

Novels, novellas, ect:
An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole (5/5)
Girl-King by Brittany Cavallaro (3/5)
Band Sinister by KJ Charles (4/5)
The Red Threads of Fortune by JY Yang (5/5)
Strangers in Town by Cedar Sigo (4/5)
From Scratch (Sea Port #1) by Katrina Jackson (5/5)
Whiskey Words & A Shovel III by R.H. Sin (3/5)
Dog Songs + A Thousand Mornings by Mary Oliver (5/5)
Wish You Were Here by Rita Mae Brown (3/5)
We Should All Be Feminist by Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie (4/5)
Toil and Trouble edited by Tess Sharpe + Jessica Spotswood (4/5)
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory (5/5)
My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren (3/5)
Viral by Lily Myers, Neil Hilborn, Javon Johnson, Rachel Rostad, Pages Matam, Dylan Garity, Guante, Michael Mlekoday (4/5)

Manga:
Fruits Basket, Collectors Editions: Volumes 1 - 12 by Natsuki Takaya (series rating: 5/5)
Ouran High School Host Club, Volume 1-18 by Bisco Hatori (series rating: 4.5/5)
Kamisama Kiss, Volume 1 by Julliette Suzuki (4/5)

Graphic novels/Comics:
The Magic of Christmas by Andrea Edwards, Motoyo Fujiwara (3/5)
Miles Morales #1 by Saladin Ahmed, Javier Garron (5/5)

And, as always, talking about what I read. First off - An Extraordinary Union was incredible and I highly recommend to everyone. I was worried it was going to be too hard to get through, considering the time it's set in, and it isn't exactly an easy read.

Band Sinister took me forever, for some reason, but I thought it was a ton of fun. There's a subplot about a like mystery/horror novel and I was living for it. The Red Threads of Fortune was so good, I'm loving this series so fucking much. It's so different and so rich, which is incredible since they're so short, and the magic system is just so interesting and so much fun.

I'm going to be shouting about From Scratch from the rooftops - it was a poly m/m/f romance and I fucking loved it. The MC was a fat black girl who baked and I loved her, like i was sad when the book was over and we wouldn't get more of her and her boys, and also her friends. The guys I also really enjoyed, longtime friends (hello both meet cute + friends to lovers in one book, triad romances are the shit). Anyway - this was fucking adorable and so good.

I also highly recommend The Wedding Date, I loved it so much - I've been, and still kind of in a romance mood. And also I enjoyed all the stories in Toil and Trouble, and obviously enjoyed both Fruits Baskey and Ouran.

I, honestly, couldn't tell you how many times I've read through Fruits Basket and I'm so excited for the new adaptation that's coming out, that'll follow the whole story. Also the new Miles comics is so good so far - I've only read one issue and I'm already attached?

Anyway - like I said, it was a crazy month for reading, I read so much. I hope you all had a good, or at least not bad, January. Let me know if you've also read any of these books or are planning to.

January 2018 | Monthly Wrap Up

The first month of 2018 has come and gone and, let me tell you, it felt like a long one to me. it's hard to be like "I think this will be a good year" with what's going on in the world politically, but in 2017 I saw friends more then I ever have before and I'm hoping to continue to see them regularly in 2018. Probably not as often, because money is a thing, but I'm still hopeful.

Anyway, on to what I read! I didn't read a lot ofr the first two weeks or so of the year, just because I was so drained from New Years with friends. I love that time, and wouldn't change our new tradtion for the world, but I need time to recover afterwards. I did end up reading quite a bit in January, though, I'm not sure what happened but I read a lot.

Books:
  • Ripped Pages by M. Hollis (2.5 stars)
  • The Doctor's Discretion by E.E. Ottoman(4 stars)
  • Let Them Eat Chaos by Kate Tempest (3 stars)
  • Think of England by K.J. Charles (3 stars)
  • The Ruin of Gabriel Ashleigh (Society of Gentleman #0.5) by K.J. Charles (3.5 stars)
  • A Fashionable Indulgence (Society of Gentleman #1) BY K.J. Charles (4 stars)
  • The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (5 stars)
  • Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson (5 stars)
  • The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke #1) by Tessa Dare (4 stars)
  • A Seditious Affair (SoG #2) by K.J. Charles (4 stars)
  • Kings and Butterflies by Lina Langley (3.5 stars)
  • A Gentleman's Position (SoG #3) by J.K. Charles (4 stars)
  • A Private Miscellany (SoG #3.5) by K.J. Charles (3.5 stars)
  • Trade Me (Cyclone #1) by Courtney Milan (4.5 stars)
  • Let's Talk About Love by Clair Kann (5 stars)
  • Talk Sweetly to Me by Courtney Milan (3 stars)
  • Ask Me How I Got Here by Christine Heppermann (3 stars)
Comics/Graphic Novels:
  • Giant Days, Volume 6 by John Allison (4 stars)
  • Misfit City, Volume 1 by (4 stars)
It was a really good reading month, as I mentioned. I read a lot of romance because, apparently, that's what I was in the mood for? Which is weird for a lot of personal reasons, and I'm still working on fully figuring it out myself but there's a discussion post on the way. Mostly, though, I think it's just I know what's going to happen, and I know it's going to end happy. I do, however, like my romance with more then just the romance - it's the main plot, of course, but not the only plot.

Besides that, I read a lot of really good stuff this month! It was my first time diving into K.J. Charles, Courtney Milan, and Tessa Dare. I enjoyed books by all three and will definitely be reading more by all of them - as already shown by my K.J. Charles spree, whoops, and the two Milan books I read.

I'm also continuing my Mistborn reread at a much slower pace, having just reread Shadows of Self this month, which I'd started last month. I'm looking forward to continuing with it, just also impatient and I know Bands is going to hurt as much the second time around as the first.

I, also, read Let's Talk About Love this month, which came out this month and I, actually, sat down and read it the day it came out, literally the same day. Black ace MC was enough to make me go yes, but there's also the friendships. Her relationship with her best friends, who are dating each other, just gave me a lot of feelings and I loved how much they loved each other? Like they all just love each other a lot and phew, feelings.

So that's what I read in January, good start to the new year reading wise, at the very least. Let me know if you've read any of these books and how your reading is going.

Happy reading!

October, November, December | Monthly Wrap Up

The last three months I didn't end up doing a wrap up, it's been a busy few months. NaNo, of course, happened and then the holidays are always crazy, are they not? Either way, I didn't want to not wrap up the last few months of the year, and I didn't read a ridiculous amount so decided to just throw them all together into one post.

Books:
  • The Wrath and the Dawn (#1) by Renee Ahdieh (4/5)
  • Mischief by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
  • The Rose and the Dagger (#2) by Renee Ahdieh (4/5)
  • Don't Call Us Dead: Poems by Danez Smith (5/5)
  • Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Carey (4/5)
  • Not Your Villain by C.B. Lee (4.5/5)
  • Smoke & Mirrors by Michael Faudet (3/5)
  • Depression and Other Magic Tricks by Sabrina Benaim (4/5)
  • Still Can't Do My Daughters Hair by William Evans (4/5)
  • Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • Oathrbinger by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • The Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (4/5)
  • Milk and Honey by Rupi Karu (4/5)
  • The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • The Christmas Truce by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
It was a weird few months of reading - one of my best friends and I accidentally started out Mistborn reread. Neither of us had reread since the first time we read, and we remembered so very little, but it's such an amazing series.

Mistborn rereads and poetry was apparently the theme of the last few months of 2017. Oathbringer, also by Sanderson, also came out in November and that was a giant, incredible, and insane book.

The Long Way Down was incredible and heartwrenching. I will definitely be reading more things by Reynolds' in the future (already bought a copy of Miles Morales). Not Your Villain was amazing and I highly recommend this series. Besides that I'm not really sure what else to comment on, it was a weird few months for reading for me, that's for sure.

Sorry for the late as hell wrap up, but better late then never right?

Happy Reading!

September 2017 | Monthly Wrap Up

I can't believe it's been another month, that's honestly a little incredible how fast time is going. My inability to understand time, though, is well known.

I started off this month in Dublin, by the way, which still seems incredible to me? I still can't believe really believe that the whole trip was real, and so much fun. It was my first time traveling with friends and it was so much fun. High stress at points - and, also, ridiculous? I mean we get ridiculous, anyway, but put us alone in London and add 74 steps to our airbnb and whew, we get more ridiculous then usual, which I didn't know was possible.

Books:
  • Michael's Wings by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
  • The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Braken (3.5/5)
  • The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee (3.5/5)
  • The Red by Tiffany Reisz (3/5)
  • Geekerella by Ashley Poston (3/5)
  • Girls Like Me by Lola St.Vil (3/5)
  • City of Strife (City of Strife #1) by Claudie Arseneault (4/5)
I, actually, posted a few reviews this month for what I read, and one that'll be going up closer to release date so instead of saying  more here: The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding, The Red, and one for Michael's Wings is coming.

Overall, it was a pretty good reading month for me. Especially considering I wasn't reading much in the first week or two of the month with traveling, and post-travel everything. And, also, with apartment guests in the middle of the month, it was a month, that's for sure.

I read Geekerella in pretty much one sitting, and it was cute but not amazing. I really, really loved City of Strife - it took me a ridiculously long time to read, but it's just a slower book, I think, which is not a bad thing. Seriously, check this book out, it's incredible. And I'm impatiently waiting for book two, which comes out in October, actually, so soon!

I enjoyed Girls Like Me, and really liked the message behind it, but I didn't feel like we had enough time with that message after? The main character is down on herself for the whole book and, when she finally realizes she isn't the problem, everyone else is the asshole, we don't get to see much of her really accepting that. Because it's not just a switch, and suddenly you know/accept your awesome. However - definitely still a solid book. I also didn't like the writing a lot - it's written in verse, which is fine, but it didn't blow me away.

Let me know what you read this week, or if you've read anything I have, and I hope you have a fantastic week!

Happy reading!

August 2017 | Monthly Wrap Up

This is a little late because I was in London/Dublin for the last week of August, and first few days of September. Which I'm planning on making a post about but I just love both of those cities possibly an unhealthy amount, and am already planning my next tattoo (one I got in Dublin). (Another reason why this wasn't up right away, hard to type when you've got a tattoo healing on your wrist).

This month I went on a bit of a NetGalley spree - I've had my account for a while but haven't used it until now - so a good handful of things I read aren't out yet. But I have reviews up here, or on goodreads (and they will be up here).

Books:
  • Deceptive (Illusive #1) by Emily Lloyd-Jones (3/5)
  • Lumberjanes: UNICORN POWER! by Mariko Tamaki (3.5/5) (full review this week!!)
  • Takeover (#1) by Anna Zabo (4.5/5) (review)
  • Just Business (#2) by Anna Zabo (4/5)
  • Edgedancer by Brandon Sanderson (4.5/5)
  • The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su, Kate Rodick (4/5)
  • Grinder (Seattle Sharks #1) by Samantha Whiskey (3/5)
  • Enforcer (#2) by Samantha Whiskey (2/5)
  • The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe by Kij Johnston (3/5)
  • Down the Rabbit Hole by Holly Madison (4/5)
Graphic novels/comics:
  • If My Dogs Were a Pair of Middle Aged Men by Matthew Inman (3/5) (goodreads review)
  • The Little Red Wolf by Amelie Flechais (4/5) (goodreads review)
  • Lady Stuff by Loryn Brantz (4/5) (goodreads review)
  • The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O'Neill (5/5) (review)
  • What Does Consent Really Mean? by Pete Wallis, Joseph Wilkins (4/5) (goodreads review - will be up on blog soon)
It was a weird, but good, reading month. I really only read for about 3/4 of the weeks of August. It was good reading month, though, I feel like. I got through a good amount of review things - which, hopefully, I can do again this month because I'm behind.

All the romance/erotica I read - which I didn't realize I'd read four in a short period of time - was probably because of travel stress, and all was fun. The Anna Zabo was even really good? (Got annoyed at Samantha Whiskey's second book, so annoyed).

I am mildly obsessed with The Tea Dragon Society - which I got through NetGalley but because I recognized the authors name, liked her previous graphic novel. I already preordered the physical book and I kind of want more set in this world? Listen, adorable tea dragons is something I am all about.

Down the Rabbit Hole was something I was sure about - I picked it up on audio on a recommendation - and it was... a lot of fun? I'm not sure if that's the right words, but it was just so interesting to me because it feels so ridiculous? Just because, obviously, my life is nothing like this and I just really enjoyed it. It was pretty well written, it was fun, highly recommend checking this out if you enjoy memoirs about people leading such insanely different lives (unless you are also a former reality TV star).

Overall, good/fun reading month. And crazy, fun times traveling. Let me know what you read this month, especially if you've got any feelings about what I read, and just generally how your month went!

Happy reading!

July 2017 | Monthly Wrap Up

Whoops, this is a few days late. Mostly because I was pretty much reading up until the last possible moment of the month, wanting to try (for some reason?) to get as much reading into the month as possible. And I had a lot of fun doing that? I wasn't really trying to do that until BookTubeAThon started - I vlogged for it, I'm hoping to get it up sometime next week.

Anyway - it was a good reading month in quantity but also in quality. I read a lot of things, sure, but I also read a lot of good things. And even managed to check off a few Diversity Bingo challenges, which is great because I'm officially behind. Reading challenges is when being a mood reader bites me in the ass.

Onto the books and then some thoughts - probably a good few because, well like I said, a lot in general but also a lot of good.

Books:
  • Half-Resurrection Blues (Bone Street Rumba #1) by Daniel Jose Older (4/5)
  • A Christmas Carroll: A Strangely Beautiful Novella by Leanna Renee Hieber (5/5)
  • The King by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
  • Coffee Boy by Austin Chant (5/5)
  • Knit One, Girl Two by Shira Glassman (5/5)
  • The Blue Horses by Mary Oliver (4/5)
  • Wizards in Space, Volume 1 edited by Olivia Dolphin (4/5)
  • Queer, There, and Everywhere by Sarah Prager (5/5)
  • Want (Want #1) by Cindy Pon (4/5)
  • Adaptation (Adaptation #1) by Malinda Lo (5/5)
  • Dog Songs: Poems by Mary Oliver (4/5)
  • Postcards from the Edge by Carrie Fisher (2/5)
  • Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuirre (5/5)
  • Hold Your Own by Kate Tempest (4/5)
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where the Find them: Original Screenplay by J.K Rowling (4/5)
  • The Gauntlet by Karuna Riaza (4/5)
  • Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children #2) by Seanan McGuire (4.5/5)
  • Exit, Pursued by Bear by E.K Johnston (5/5)
  • The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord (5/5)
  • The Gunslinger (Dark Tower #1) by Stephen King (4/5)
  • Illusive (Illusive #1) by Emily Lloyd-Jones (3.5/5)
Graphic novels/comic/manga:

  • Kill or Be Killed, Volume 1 by Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips
  • Dimension W, Volume(s) 1, 2, 3, 4, + 5 by Yuji Iwahara (4.5 average)
  • Giant Days, Volume 5 by John Allison, Max Sarin (4/5)
So I read a lot of good, good stuff this month. You can see a bunch of 5 stars up there, but also a bunch of 4 stars. And the 4 stars were really fucking good in their own right, excuse the language. I normally try not to swear on blog but I'm tired, and also amped up about books. As always. I read 21 books, 7 graphic novels. Which equals to a total of: 5,902 pages with the graphic novels - 4,846 without gn.

I'm going to try and be super brief about most of the ones I loved, only going into depth about a few, just because there's so many but I live giving my mini-thoughts about the books I read.

I'm kind of mad at myself that I waited so long to read Half-Ressurection Blues? I've had it since just after it came out and it was so good and so much fun, and listening to the author narrate it was an experience. I don't know if this is weird to say, but he's got a good voice. And the way it's written feels conversation - highly recommend the book, and the audiobook if you're into that.

The King - do I need to spew lover about Tiffany Reisz again? A Christmas Carroll was really, really adorable and I'm glad we got that last piece of closure. I'm loving Mary Olivers poems, which should be unsurprising since I read two of her collections this month.

The Gauntlet. Everyone was right about it being like jumanji and I highly recommend it - interesting, surprised me, and a ton of fun. Coffee Boy and Knit One, Girl Two were both short, adorable romances and I'd recommend them both, definitely going to be checking out more from the authors.

Finally, the last few I really loved. First: Every Heart a Doorway and Down Among the Sticks and Bones. I feel like I'm one of the last people to start this novella series but if you haven't, it's incredible. It's so damn interesting and just so good? I love fantasy, portal fantasy included, and I loved the idea of this book and also loved the way she wrote it. Would highly recommend both, cannot wait until the third comes out.

The Names They Gave Us was heartfelt and sad. It deals with cancer, though, just to warn you - the MC's mom has agressive breast cancer. It also deals with a whole slew of other problems and it's really, really good. I want to read the spinoff about Anna, I don't think it'll happen but I'd 100% read it.

(trigger warnings for sexual assault/rape discussion, just the below paragraph)

Exit, Pursued by Bear. This book. I cried through probably at least 60% of it. It's so well done, though. I'm not a survivor of an assault so I can't speak for that, but... I can't read books about rape, so I wasn't going to pick this one up. It makes me sick to read, especially when the writer feels like we need a detailed description of it happening? None of that is in this book. This book handles our main character with respect, but also lets her be confused. She doesn't know to feel, she doesn't remember it. I think I want to write a full review, but one last thing: how respectful every adult she encountered was incredible, how supportive her best friend was and mostly everyone in her life who was a friend. I just... if you can stomach it, I'd recommend reading this book. It's on a horrible subject matter, but it's an incredible read.

Finally, we're ending on a lighter note because I feel like we should. Adaptation by Malinda Lo. There's mixed opinions about this book but holy shit, I loved it. I loved it in a way that I haven't a book in a while. It's fun, a little ridiculous, and deals with conspiracy theories - remember when there were those bird problems? And then conspiracy theories? Well - what if they were real? Oh, and also aliens? Haven't read book two yet - it's a duology - but I am definitely planning on doing so, I'm just kind of nervous about how it's going to end. This was only my second book by Malinda Lo but I think she might be an auto buy author now for me? (I read Ash by her last year, which is incredible)

Whew, that was a lot of words, took me a while to figure out what I wanted to say. And I don't feel like I did most of these books justice, I also don't feel like I really correctly articulated what I wanted to say about Exit, Pursued by Bear. Either way - if you've read any of these books let me know, or if me talking about them made you want to pick them up! (if you end up reading any, please come back or let me know on twitter)

And with that -
Happy Reading!

June 2017 | Monthly Wrap Up

June was a hell of a month - I forget how busy summer gets. There was BEA and then friends visiting and me going to NYC to visit friends/book even for friend. Oh and my birthday, my moms birthday. It's a tad bit of a crazy month.

I did, however, find a new bookstore that's like twenty minutes away and glorious, I love it a lot. I can't wait to go back, I'm dying to but also want to try and read some of the things I bought before going back. But also want to try and dive into the pile of ARCS I have from BEA. Oh and all the books that've come out in the last few months that I haven't gotten to yet. Does anyone else have this problem?

Now, onto what this post is actually suppose to be about, what I read in June.

Books:

  • 27 Hours by Tristina Wright (5/5)
  • Wallbanger by Alice Clayton (3/5)
  • Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare (3/5)
  • Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbee (4/5)
  • Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee (4/5)
  • On Thin Ice by Dana Burkey (2/5)
  • A Thousand Morning: Poems by Mary Oliver (4/5)
  • Timekeeper by Tara Sim (4.5/5)
  • Dreadnought by April Daniels (5/5)
  • Strangely Beautiful by Leanna Renee Hieber (5/5)

First off - I've been spewing love for 27 Hours around the internet since I finished it and it's not out until October. On one hand, I feel bad about that, but it is worth the wait. And I will continue to spew love for it (and have a review up closer to the release date).

Lord of Shadows was just meh for me - I didn't care about Julian/Emma as much, but did care about Cristina/Mark/Keiran. My new OT3, please let it be a real thing that's going to happen.

You might be seeing a theme in my reading. It was Pride month, of course, so I was trying to read as much LGBTQIA+ books as possible. And, trust me, I am not lacking in books I own with those themes (though I am always looking for me, rec me some). And, honestly, most of the straight stuff I read wasn't that great this month - except for one, which we'll get to.

Tash Hearts Tolstoy was so damn good, and also adorable, and I want to read more ace characters, I need them in my life. Not Your Sidekick was really damn good, as well, and I cannot wait for the next one. I really can't wait to see from Bells' perspective. Timekeeper - okay, so the ship in this is without a doubt adorable, but also the world is so interesting? And we get to see, more close up, how the time magic works and I was like loosing my mind, I cannot wait to get my hands on boo two. I highly recommend all three of these - hell, all the queer books I read this month were four to five stars, obviously I'd recommend them.

Dreadnought. I want to write a full review of this one - I'm not trans so I'm currently planning to link to at least one review by a trans female reviewer. I loved this book, though, a whole hell of a lot. I bought it and immediately started reading it and kind of never wanted to put it down? The way it ended was bonkers and I need more. I wasn't going to mention this until my full review but one of my favorite things was how angry Danielle is - the female rage is real. And also the feelings in general? I don't know, I just - I loved it?

And last, but not least, Strangely Beautiful. This series has a lot of nostalgia for me and is written by a friend, but that doesn't affect my opinion of this. The first time I read anything of Strangely Beautiful was right after meeting Leanna at a signing that we went to to hang out with Robyn and there was pretty much just us there. This book is richly written and, of course, gothic. It's definitely a romance, though, above all else. I love it, though, and love our cast of characters. I'm a sucker for a group of friends and their banter. Also a twist on the Persephone/Hades myth.

If you've read any of these, let me know. Have recs based on what I read. Or, of course, did your own wrap up - especially, but not only, if you tried to focus on LGBTQIA+ books as well - link me in the comments!

May 2017 | Monthly Wrap Up

Another month gone and I'm already stressing about how crazy busy June is going to be - two trips, a weekend of friends staying with me. It's going to be awesome but super stressful. Before w get to the wrap up, the first trip I'm going on is BEA/BookCon. BEA changed it's rules for bloggers - they can still go, technically, but man is it hard. I'm going on Friday under my family's business and then BookCon.

I'm kind of worried about how crazy BookCon is going to be? (So if you've gone, let me know your experience). I was at BEA for the first year they did BookCon and left pretty fast on that BookCon day because honestly terrifying. I've only got a few books in mind that I want to pick up - specifically 27 Hours by Tristina Wright. And, of course, I've seen ARCS of Holly Black's The Cruel Prince but I don't even have hopes to get up.

Anyway - I'll definitely have a wrap up post after BEA and maybe a vlog to go with it? I'm kind of hoping to also finally visit The Strand? I've been to NYC too many times to count, at this point, for cons or whatever and, somehow, I've never gotten to The Strand. I'm ashamed. Hopefully this time!!

Books:

  • Words of Radiance (Stormlight Archives #2) by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • The Allow of Law (Wax and Wayne, #1) by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • Shadows of Self (Wax and Wayne #2) by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • The Bands of Mourning (Wax and Wayne #3) by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
  • Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (4/5)
  • Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (5/5)
  • Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins (4/5)
  • Going Through the Motions (Stake Sauce Stories #1) by RoAnna Sylver (4/5)
  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman
I finished Words of Radiance this month, which seems impossible. And then got caught up on the other Mistborn series - two were rereads - and it's been weeks now and the ending of The Bands of Mourning still has me broken? I love all the stuff he's written and I've read so far - Stormlight is definitely at the top just because of the scale of it but god Mistborn is also good, was going to reread this month but didn't end up happening - hopefully next month?

Besides fangirling about Sanderson, I think I do that enough, I also ended up rereading Perkin's companion series because one of my best friends mentioned it and... and then I had accidentally reread all three of them? That's normal right?

The first Stake Sauce story I rated so high mostly because - well, obviously, I really dam enjoyed it? Way more then I expected to, actually, but also I can see how as we get more stories and the world gets bigger it could be awesome. (Also one of the vamps we see has bubblegum pink hair? And I kind of want to be his best friend?) (Also there's bat turning, into it).

Another reread - American Gods. I've been loving the show so much until this last episode made me hesitant about how far it's drifting from the book? It's still really damn amazing even if it is, honestly, and I know Gaiman's been involved in the show so I've got hope for it still being good. (Ricky Whittle is amazing as Shadow. And Gillian Anderson as Media, I could probably write a whole post just explaining how much I love her?)

So it was a fantastic reading month in my opinion, even though I didn't read as much as I could of, it was still quite a bit and pretty quality. Let me know what you read this month or are currently reading! And if you're going to be in New York for this book event.

April 2017 | Monthly Wrap Up

I started blogging again this month and so we have a monthly wrap up! How exciting! Honestly, it kind of is for me, I forgot how much I really just enjoyed doing this. Looking back on the month, seeing what I'd read / posted on the blog and such.

Personally, I think I had a pretty good reading month, considering everything. I'm hoping to read more in May and, I should, finally finish Words of Radiance. I think I have like 400 pages, was going to try and finish during April but it just didn't end up happening for a few reasons. Sadly. I'm loving it, though, it's so good.

Books:
  • Even This Page is White by Vivek Shraya (5/5)
  • So Sweet (So Sweet #1) by Rebekah Weatherspoon (4/5)
  • Check Please! Year One and Year Two by Ngozi Ukaza (5/5)
  • Radio Silence by Alice Oseman (5/5)
  • The God Engines by John Scalzi
  • Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor
  • Second Kiss by Chelsea M Cameron
  • One Hot December (Men at Work #3) by Tiffany Reisz
  • Forest of Memory by Mary Robinette Kowal

Graphic Novels:
  • Injection, Volume 1 by Warren Ellis
  • Injection, Volume 2 by Warren Ellis
  • Lumberjanes, Volume 6: Sink or Swim by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters
  • Giant Days, Volume 4 by John Allison
Okay so there were some good ones this month. Even This Page is White made me cry - I read it in snippets because poetry but it was amazing. Radio Silence also gave me a lot of feelings, in a totally different vein, but for some reason it was just so amazing? Platonic m/f bffs and a bi MC and a demisexual mc. I kind of flipped a little because, my friends, the word is actually used.

Check Please!, if you don't know, if a web comic about queer hockey players - here's where to start reading it online for free - and it's just really damn amazing. It has characters that I adore, probably an unhealthy amount, and also a happy m/m couple where one becomes a professional hockey player? It's so good? Love it!

For some thoughts on my Dewey's read - Dewey's wrap up - but Binti: Home was amazing and more people need to read Injection.

Let me know what you read this month, or what you got up to in general. If you've posted a monthly wrap up, feel free to link me to it.

Happy reading!

October & November 2016 | Monthly Wrap Up(s)

Well October and November were certainly... something, let me tell you. The end of October was possibly just the best part of my year, if not the last few years. So many friends together for LeakyCon, and LeakyCon itself just was fantastic this year, and I miss everyone so much - even with the texting and skype, of course (Well, google hangouts are easier).

And Brianna - who I saw for the first time in over two years at Leaky, see why it was so ahhhh? - and I accidentally started like a full Sanderson reread? There's a few each of us haven't read, but mostly we're focusing on the cosmere. I'm currently in the middle of Words of Radiance (currently kind of taking a break from it because everything is a little crazy, we'll get into that). Really mostly cosmere, but I do want to reread books 1 & 2 of Alcatraz and then read the rest since all the new pretty editions are out, too.

Books:

  • Asking for it (Asking for It #1) by Lilah Pace (4/5)
  • Slaugherhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut (5/5)
  • Six of Crows (Six of Crows #1) by Leigh Bardugo (5/5)
  • Flight by Sherman Alexie (I still don't know?? I would recommend checking it out, though)
  • Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo (5/5)
  • The Way of Kings (Stormlight Archives, #1) by Brandon Sanderson (5/5) (really 10/5)
  • Dispatcher by John Scalzi (3/5)
  • Her Halloween Treat (Men at Work #1) by Tiffany Reisz (4/5)
  • Her Naughty Holiday (Men at Work #2) by Tiffany Reisz (4/5)
  • Something Nice (Original Sinners #1.5) by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
  • Screwdrivered (Cocktail #3) by Alice Clayton
  • The Siren (Original Sinners #1) by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
  • Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J Maas (3/5)
  • Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J Maas (3/5)

Graphic Novels/Manga:

  • Giant Days, Volume 3 by John Allison, Max Sarin (4/5)
I wouldn't say I had a bad two reading months - especially because I hit my goal of 100 books for the year (book books) at the very end of November, like the 30th, so that's fantastic. However, in november of books it doesn't feel like a lot. To be fair to myself, though, I've been working on Stormlight, as I mentioned. And, for some reason, I read those books super slow - I love every second of them, but they're just dense for me for some reason. (Which is why I'm still only halfway through WoR, as well).

To off set that I read romance and YA Fantasy because I read those two the fastest and they're my light fluff reads - which is something I just noticed as I was going through this list. Also a few audiobooks because at the beginning of November a friend brought the Sims back into the forefront of my brain, new expansion pack released. and that was the end of that - so much audiobook time, though.

Anyway - read quite a few Tiffany Reisz, accidentally started a reread of her Original Sinners series, which I love. Also loving her Men at Work series, but it's definitely not on the same level as Original Sinners - it's good, though, and the banter is pretty great.

Six of Crows I already want to reread - I started it last year and stopped, but this time. Whoo, there was no stopping me, I tore through both books and loved them both so much. I love the characters and how we see how the world is after the events of the Grisha trilogy. And they're diverse, I love Jesper to my soul. And also Kaz has like chronic pain?? I just love this duology??

I don't normally go over everything I read but - Throne of Glass. I started the first book the year I came out because I got an ARC and then stopped halfway through about and never continued. And so I ended up picking it up again - audiobook, there's a theme here - and I finished it but I don't think I liked it? It's interesting and some of the scenes and enjoyed, but overall? I've very confused about how I feel about the first two books in this series, and I guess I'll keep reading it? I want to know what happens, and I've been spoiled a little for later books, but do I care? I honestly don't know.

But it's been a weird as fuck week, and also currently in the middle of WoR so anything else just isn't Sanderson, and also it's just been a weird as fuck year, to be honest. But, yeah, this week - I think I was casually diagnosed with scoliosis? But the chiropractor thinks he can fix it? But... scoliosis? it's been a weird few days, I need to see an actual doctor, I think? (I'm so confused, about life and books and really just everything).

Anyway, we'll figure it out eventually. I hope you had a good months in general and reading wise, we live in a post election world now which doesn't feel good but there's things we can still do to fight back. (Yeah, I'm bringing politics in at the last minute). And my back doesn't hurt that much at the moment, so everything will be okay? I don't know anymore, 2016 is almost over, though. Hopefully the craziness doesn't carry to 2017. (Though...)

September 2016 | Monthly Wrap Up

September was a month. I thought all of the stress would be gone as of the end of August - hahaHahahA - but it wasn't exactly a bad month, either. There were some readathons happening, which I alway something I enjoy. Three this month, unless I'm forgetting one: Tackle Your TBR, diverseathon, slowathon.

Diverseathon was a last minute one because of stuff that was happening over in the YT book community (booktube, if you will), and I think it was a great idea. And it sounded like one they're going to try and do again, with some more preparation. I didn't really take part in any of the chats, I kept forgetting because they weren't all at the same time, but I answered some of the questions after and read through everyone elses answers. It's definitely a really important thing to talk about, I'd check out the hashtag on twitter (#diverseathon).

Now to wrap up the books and such - I actually did one weekly wrap up, to wrap up mostly diverseathon (didn't finish my slowathon book)

Books:
  • Be My Fantasy (Fantasy Series #1) by Alisha Rai (4.5/5)
  • Stay My Fantasy (Fantasy Seires #2) by Alisha Rai (4.5/5)
  • Wife by Wednesday (Weekday Brides #1) by Catherine Bybee (4/5)
  • Married by Monday (Weekday Brides #2) by Catherine Bybee (4/5)
  • Fiance by Friday (Weekday Brides #3) by Catherine Bybee (3.5/5)
  • Single by Saturday (Weekday Brides #4) by Catherine Bybee (4/5)
  • Taken by Tuesday (Weekday Brides #5) by Catherine Bybee (4/5)
  • Seduced by Sunday (Weekday Brides #6) by Catherine Bybee (4/5)
  • Treasured by Thursday (Weekday Brides #7) by Catherine Bybee (4/5)
  • Not Quite Dating (Not Quite #1) by Catherine Bybee (3/5)
  • Love Beyond Body, Mind, and Space: An Indigenous LGBT Anthology by various awesome people (5/5)
  • Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankin (5/5)
  • Ash by Malinda Lo (5/5)
  • The Dark Wife by S.E. Diemer (4/5)
  • The Bane Chronicles by Cassie Clare (3/5)
  • Duma Key by Stephen King (5/5)
  • Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Ridget (4/5)
Graphic Novels/Comics/All that:
Edit: No, I did read a graphic novel, past self, and it was amazing and adorable

  • Princess Princess Ever After by Katie O'Neill (5/5)

First off - I read eight books by Catherine Bybee this month, that happened, actually in ten days. The reason for this is because I wanted to finally finish the Weekday Brides series since the last two books were out. And so I ended up rereading the other five, because I remembered very little of what happened, and finishing out the series. They're fun, a little ridiculous, fluffy romances. Basically: they're cute (side note: the sex scenes aren't the best, but at least they weren't super cringe worthy. Some better then ohers).

I'll just link my weekly wrap up here if you want to see my thoughts about all the diverseathon reads, below to Bybee and ending with The Dark Wife - basically, though, all of them were incredible.

Besides that, I read Duma Key. Again. I've lost count at this point, I listened to it on audio because, for some reason, I just really love the audiobook for this one? I mean, I've read the physical book so many times, but the audio is also a lot of fun. If you've never read a King book - this is probably different then you expect but, in my opinion, the King I like the best. (Duma Key, IT, Bag of Bones, Dreamcatcher - those are among my favorite, though I know that list will expand when I finally get to some of the more popular ones. IT might be my favorite book ever, honestly).

Seven Ways We Lie was really well done but I was also confused for the first 20% - which is probably just my memories fault - and also it was slow to get to start to reveal things. I really enjoyed it, though, even loved it. And was super impressed about how well seven POV's worked, and it's not all tied up in a bow at the end but there aren't too many loose ends that it drives you crazy. And one of the POV characters is pansexual, which is freaking awesome (yes, more this) and it isn't said outright but it seems like Valentine, another POV character, is on the autism spectrum. And it was just really good, I will definitely be picking up whatever she writes next.

I feel really freaking good about this reading month, even though everything is still on fire in life, at least the book thing is going good. (Currently I have a cold, my glasses are broken, and I'm ignoring the whole thing that is the refi. Oh, also, I haven't bought my plane tickets to LeakyCon yet which is in like two weeks). But I am twelve books ahead in my reading challenge of reading 100 book, books so we are all good. Totally fine.

How did your reading go, let me know, or link me to your own monthly wrap up. Any insane and awesome Harry Potter people heading to LeakyCon in October?

August 2016 | Monthly Wrap Up

August was kind of the high point of stress - when this stress ends, if it evers ends why, maybe I'll be able to blog regularly. The insanity. Anyway, I read a ton during this month even though I probably shouldn't of four two reasons: one, because I wanted to just finish the Sookie Stackhouse series once and for all, and, two, to avoid real life (heyyooo, reading is my favorite form of escapism).

And so as of today - having finish two things already in September, they were short - I'm four books ahead for my 100 books (book books) in 2016 challenge! We'll see how long that lasts but I'm hopeful since I've been suck in a reading book and completely addiction to my Kindle Paperwhite.

I want to talk about that for a few seconds before moving on to the books I read this months and such. I've had a Kindle Fire for years - not entirely sure on when I bought it because it's been at least 4 years (I think? My ability to track time passing is pretty bad but it's... 2 generations past what the current Fire is... i think?) Anyway - new kindle. And the Paperwhite because of the no glare/like paper screen. I don't know what it is about screens but I can't read on them for too long, especially if the print is too small (I make all of my font bigger, thank you kindles). I can read pretty much as long as I want on the Paperwhite, though, and I've also been using my library ebook service.

What was I reading through the library? The Sookie Stackhouse books, mostly. It was easier, and when I first started my reread I didn't know where a good handful of the books had gone (I did end up finding them all but I didn't get up the motivation to find them all until Bout of Books so I could add them to the stack). To wrap it up - I love reading with the Paperwhite and am currently going out of my way to read things on my paperwhite, to the point where it's been a while since I've read a physical book (still can't beat it, though, I love physical books. For instance: read a series digitally this month and loved it so, obviously, had to purchase the physical books).

To show the month in statistics: I read 12 books, 7 graphic novels/comics, no single issues (apparently I haven't read a single issue since March, though I do enjoy just waiting and then marathoning a few at a time which normally ends up it's easier to just count as the trade. Anyway, off topic). And for time spent reading: 51 hours, 29 minutes. I read quite a bit of things that I didn't finish, and the All for the Game books took longer then my normal speed because I kept pausing the highlight things.

Books:
Muted: A Love Story by (3.5/5)
Definitely Dead (Sookie Stackhouse #6) by Charlaine Harris (3.5.5)
All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse #7) by Charlaine Harris (3/5)
From Dead to Worse (Sookie Stackhouse #8) by Charlaine Harris (4/5)
Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse #9) by Charlaine Harris (3.5/5)
Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse #10) by Charlaine Harris (3/5)
Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse #11) by Charlaine Harris (3/5)
Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12) by Charlaine Harris  (3/5)
Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse #13) by Charlaine Harris (2.5/5)
The Foxhole Courts (All for the Game #1) by Nora Sakavic (5/5)
The Raven King (All for the Game #2) by Nora Sakavic (5/5)
The King's Men (All for the Game #3) by Nora Sakavic (5/5

Graphic Novels/Comics:
Soppy: A Love Story by Philippa Rice (5/5)
Lumberjanes, Volume 4: Out of Time by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis (5/5)
Fruits Basket: Collectors Edition, Volume 2 by Natsuki Takaya (5/5)
Giant Days, Volume 1 by John Allison, Lissa Treiman (4/5)
Giant Days, Volume 2 by John Allison, Lissa Treiman (4/5)
Fruits Basket: Collectors Edition, Volume 3 by Natsuki Takaya (5/5)
Outcast, Volume 1 by Robert Kirkman, Paul Azaceta (3.5/5)

Have I mentioned how good it feels to have finished the Sookie Stackhouse series? Because so damn good. It's a fun series, sure, but I got a little fatigued reading them back to back by the end - mostly because they're just fun but that doesn't go far when there's editing errors or just shit I didn't care about. Either way, overall the series is alright, I'd say 3.5/5 overall. The last book let me down a little, the final person she ended up with felt so damn rushed, the whole book kind of did, and juggling so many characters went okay but not great.

On the other hand - the All for the Game series. It isn't perfect, not by a long shot, but they're definitely damn good, great even. They're a little silly dramatic at points for me, but there were a few points something would happen - mostly Neil would open his mouth and say something - and I'd have to put my Kindle down and just like pace because sometimes no survival instincts with the talking.

I loved it, though, I just did. It's got problems, and trigger warnings for pretty much all the big things, but none of it felt over the top? Like parts of it really weren't dealt with in a healthy way, but they're teenagers and half of them don't seem to really trust the team psychiatrist or just don't think about it. It felt very real and was just so good, I'm so attached to these characters now. Also it's marketed as a romance series, but - not really? I mean there is a romance but isn't part of the story until the last book, so I'd keep that in mind. Either way: highly recommended if you can stomach some fucked up shit. (Don't let anyone give you shit if you can't, don't worry about it, don't push yourself).

I mini review things, mostly, as I read them over on Instagram, but as soon as the stress calms down I would like to get back into actually reviewing stuff - even just doing mini reviews and lumping a few things into a post. I did do one review this month, though! (Which, I believe, was my first review of the year? Holy books).

July 2016 | Monthly Wrap Up

It's been a few months since I've done a monthly wrap up - I didn't do one for May or June - and I thought about doing a catch up one but decided against it. I finished a good few books in May, but only two in June, and July's been a pretty great reading month for me.

There was BookTubeAThon in July, which definitely helped with my reading - though, I didn't follow any of the challenges - and also rereading stuff. And mostly just getting myself back into the routine of it. Also - audiobooks.

I'm planning on making a whole post about why I've been so MIA, but I'm not sure if I will / if I have enough to say to make a whole post? Maybe I do, maybe it'll go up. Either way, the man thing is that my health isn't the best right now - mental and physical - and the fact that I've been exhausted for about two months now (actually, physically exhausted. Just getting waves of it) also isn't very good for, well, anything.

Books:
Shadow and Bone (Grisha Trilogy #1) by Leigh Bardugo (4/5)
Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman (5/5)
Siege and Storm (Grisha Trilogy #2) by Leigh Bardugo (3/5)
The Machine Stops by E.M Forester (4/5)
Grinder (Seattle Sharks #1) by Samantha Whiskey (4/5)
The Khmer Kill by Barry Eisler (3/5)
Ruin and Rising (Grisha Trilogy #3) by Leigh Bardugo (3/5)
Fault Line by Barry Eisler (3.5/5)
Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse #2) by Charlaine Harris (3/5)
Club Dead (SS #3) by Charlaine Harris (3/5)
Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock #1) by Faith Hunter (5/5)
Dead to the World (SS #4) by Charlaine Harris (3/5)
Dead as a Doornail (SS #5) by Charlaine Harris (3.5/5)

Graphic Novels/Comics:
Fruits Basket: Collectors Edition, Volume 1 by Natsuki Takaya (5/5)

First of all, about what I read this month - 13 books, 1 other. And 8 of which were audiobooks, which surprises me, and 7 of which were reread (not completely overlapping). And I spent over fifty hours reading this month, which is awesome. I'm using a time logging app, which I believe I've mentioned that before, and mostly it started with wanting to keep track of my reading. And now I'm keeping track of everything, and it's kind of awesome? And terrifying.

Now, about what I actually read: I was a little disappointed rereading The Grisha Trilogy, which I wasn't that surprised by, but it definitely hit me more how annoying Mal is, how much the darkling sucks, and how Nikolai is someone I would of accepted a political marriage with in a heartbeat (listen, I know that isn't just me).

The Sookie Stackhouse reread started accidentally. I realized I could watch (rewatch) True Blood though Prime and started doing that and then missed the books - because the show take everything to eleven it's insane. And, sure, the books are crazy but way less so, and less complicated. They're definitely in need of some major editing, though, and also just in general are a little meh but I'm having fun (and I never read the last two, so I might as well continue and maybe finally finish this series).

Then I want to just really quickly talk about the two things I really loved this months, and then I promise to stop rambling. Skinwalker wasn't really anything i expected it to be. I listened to it and mostly because Audible randomly recommended it to me and I've never read just a book with a native america MC (which isn't acceptable) and I was kind of expecting whatever urban fantasy stuff. And did not expect to completely love it. I want to write a full review, because I want everyone to read it, highly recommended.

Fruits Basket is a manga (and anime) that I've talked about before, it's what got me into both, and I will love it forever. Period. And they're rereleasing it, in the US at least, in a new edition with a whole new translation, which I like more then the original translation. It has two of the original volumes in one and the first three - so the first six - are out already. If you're new to manga, or haven't read it yet: Fruits Basket, do it.

How was your reading month? Or month in general. Feel free to let me know!

January 2016 | Monthly Wrap Up

January was a good reading month - and started out as a good month period, which I am very thankful for. But the last week hasn't been going so well - physically mentally. I mentioned it in the wrap up I put up February 1st (wrapping up the last two weeks of January), but mostly it just plain wasn't a good one.

Also a pretty good one blog wise, though - I got some posts up, beginning of the year push with the beginning of the year posts. And I've got a discussion post I've been turning over and over in my head, just my ability to focus to get it written down has not been good the last week or two, being in pain does that to me. (How am I doing this right now? I have no idea, but I'm going with it)

Now - onto what I read this month, sticking with splitting it up.

Books:
  • The Grownup by Gillian Flynn (3/5)
  • Summer of Surrender by Zara Stoneley (2/5)
  • Restraint (Away We Go #2) by Charlotte Stein (2/5)
  • A Gentleman in the Streets (Campbell Simblings #1) by Alisha Rai (4/5)
  • The Queen (White Years #4) by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
  • Star Wars: Before the Awakening by Greg, Rucka, Phil Noto (4.5/5)
  • Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking #3) by Patrick Ness (5/5)
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter #2) by J.K. Rowling (5/5)
  • The Force Awakens by Alan Dean Foster (4/5)
  • Playing the Game (Neighborly Affection #1) by M.Q. Barber (2/5)
  • 100 Essays I Don't Have Time to Write by Sarah Ruhl (4/5)
  • Crossing the Lines (Neighborly Affection #2) by M.Q. Barber (3/5)
Graphic Novels/Trades:
  • The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Volume 1: Squirrel Power by Ryan North, Erica Henderson (3/5)
  • Ms. Marvel, Volume 4: Last Days by G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona (5/5)
  • Coffin Hill, Volume 1: Forest of the Night by Caitlin Kitteredge, Inaki Miranda
  • Coffin Hill, Volume 2: Dark Endeavors by Caitlin Kittredge, Inaki Miranda
  • Coffin Hill, Volume 3: Haunted Houses by Caitlin Kitteredge, Inaki Mirand
Single Issues:
  • Black Canary #6 by Brenden Fletcher, Annie Wu
  • Captain America: White #5 by Jeph, Leob, Tim Sale
  • The Wicked and the Divine #17 by Kieron Gillen, Brandon Graham
  • Wayward #12 by Jim Zub, Steve Cummings
  • Injection #6 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (4/5)
  • Wolf #5 by Ales Kot (3/5)
  • Wayward #13 Jim Zub, Steven Cummings (4/5)
Overall I read - 12 books, 5 trades, 7 single issues. And I mostly enjoyed everything I read. I don't want to talk about everything too in depth, I did that already in my weekly wrap ups, but I'll say a few things and be quick.

Book stand outs - A Gentleman in the Streets was not expected at all, a book I bought and read within a few hours, and was pleasantly surprised. The Queen, of course, was fantastic - and I hope she writes more in this world, from these characters or not. Both Star Wars books were interesting. And so glad I finally finished 100 Essays... it was fantastic, but a book I had to slowly absorb, and that I put aside for a little while in the middle.

Really enjoyed reading the Coffin Hill series, volume 1 a reread but I didn't remember anything from it.  And was kind of disappointed in Squirrel Girl after hearing so much good about it.But I am so glad that Injection is back and cannot wait for the next issues. Wayward continues to be gorgeous. Also, was a little disappointed in the last issue of Cap: White, but it was still good.

Overall a good reading month. I'd love to hear what you guys have been up to, what you've been reading! Especially anything positive - or not, but I do hope your last week was better then mine. And let me know if you've read, or would like to read, any of the books I mentioned. Let's talk books!

October 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

October was one of those months that feels like it went by in a blink of the eye, like I got really nothing done, in all honesty (even though I did get a few things read), but the last week was mostly oh god it's NaNoWriMo next month, which wasn't fun and stressful.

That's a different post, though, that I hopefully right we'll see. October was a month where I wanted to read something horror - because Halloween - but I didn't really end up doing that. I'm in the middle of listening to The Shadow over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft (which I'm enjoying), but haven't been able to finish anything. There's always November when I get sick of typing, or December. Horror because of Christmas, perfect.

Anyway - what I read this month. 4 novels, 7 trades, 10 single issues. I have a feeling I'll be reading a bunch of single issues next month considering I just got my pull list and haven't had a chance to read any of them (whose behind? Pshhh.... I'm always behind for comics, I've accepted this).

Books:
The Allow of Law by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson (5/5)
The Martian by Andy Weir (5/5)
Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink, Jeffrey Cranor (5/5)

Trades/Graphic Novels:
Virgil by Steve Orlando, J.D. Faith (5/5)
Locke and Key, Volume One: Welcome To Lovecraft by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez (5/5)
Locke and Key, Volume Two: Head Games by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez (5/5)
Locke and Key, Volume Three: Crown of Shadows by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez (5/5)
Locke and Key, Volume Four: Keys to the Kingdom by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriquez (5/5)
Locke and Key, Volume 5: Clockworks by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez (5/5)
Locke and Key, Volume 6: Alpha & Omega by Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez (5/5)

Single Issues:
Captain America: White #2 by Jeph Leob, Tim Sale (5/5)
Wolf #3 by Ales Kot, Matt Taylor (3/5)
Black Canary #4 by Brenden Fletcher, Annie Wu (4/5)
The Wicked and the Divine #14 by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie (5/5)
All New Hawkeye #4 by Jeff Lemire, Ramon Perez (3/5)
Nameless #5 by Grant Morrison Chris Burnham (2/5)
Captain America: White #3 by Jeph Leob, Tim Sale (5/5)

The Wicked and the Divine #15 by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie (4/5)
Invincible Iron Man #1 by Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez (3/5)

Ended up being a bit of a Sanderson month, also want to reread his others I've read and get to the others I haven't read yet. (I got to see him, and he signed a few of my books, and it was really freaking awesome!!) And I guess on the horror front, Locke and Key definitely counts, and I love that damn series so much, pretty much what I read during Dewey's this year but no regrets!

There isn't much else to say that I can think of at the moment - Marvel comics are starting again, new Spider-Gwen and Iron Man, both I enjoyed. Also reread The Martian after I saw the movie, want to see the move again! - but if you've read any of these I'd love to talk about them with you, let me know in the comments, or what you're wrap up, what you're currently reading.

Happy (terrifying)  November!

September 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

We're trying a slightly different format for the book and such part of the wrap up, I'm splitting it up into books (as in novels and the like) and then trades (trades and graphic novels and anything that'd fall into that area, like manga), rounding it out with single issues, which I think is pretty self explanatory. It just feels slightly more organized then just plain the order in which I read them (they're still in that order, just in their own lists now).

It was a good reading month, which I was slightly surprised to learn because it hadn't felt like a good one, but I got through a good number of things. Also a good number of really good things. I ended up reading 9 books, 2 trades/such, and 7 single issues. So it wasn't amazing, comparing it to some months in the past, but I'm really pleased with it. I've been trying to get back into reading regularly but not pushing myself to read ALL THE BOOKS, which is hard, but I've been so busy and also started doing other things with my down time (crocheting takes up time). Also, I've been trying to figure out my goals for reading by week, and looking back on this month, I definitely met the idea of reading 2 books a week, on average.

Now - before I get more distracted - the books:

Books:
Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King (3/5)
Uprooted by Naomi Novik (4/5)
Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvate (5/5)
Justice Calling by Annie Bellet (2/5)
A Curious Tale of the In-Between by Lauren DeStefano (4/5)
The Marvels by Brian Selznick (5/5)
The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien (5/5)
Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith (3/5)
Driven to Distraction (Hollywood Heat #2) by Ashleigh Raine (2/5)
Legion (Legion #1) by Brandon Sanderson (4/5)

Trades/Graphic Novels:
War-Fix by David Axe, Steven Olexa (2/5)
Lady Killer, Volume One by Joëlle Jones, Jamie S. Rich (5/5)

Single Issues:
Injection #4 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (5/5)
Descender #6 by Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen (4/5)
Black Canary #3 by Brenden Fletcher, Annie Wu (4/5)
Wolf #2 by Ales Kot, Matt Taylor (4/5)
Injection #5 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (5/5)
Planet Hulk #5 by Sam Humphries (2/5)
Captain America: White #1 by Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale (4/5)

Some really good stuff this month - I finally got around to Blue Lily, Lily Blue (which didn't disappoint) and I also finished The Marvels (a new release and incredible) and The Things They Carried (which I'm pretty sure I'll be thinking about for a while). And that's just the books - Lady Killer, Volume One was incredible and I think I'll read in single issues instead of waiting for the next volume. Injection is also something I am totally into right now, it's definitely captured and been holding my attention.

What did you read this month? Link me to your wrap up, whatever format it is, or just let me know in the comments!

(Note: I'm hoping to film a monthly wrap up and give some individual thoughts on everything, but it's suppose to be raining for the next week here and you can't hear a thing over the noise on camera. Yes, that's how loud the rain is).

August 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

August was a good month - there was less stress, though not all of my stuff is in one place yet - and more time to read and Bout of Books (which is always just fantastic, I adore talking to everyone and such, always fun).

And I got some good reading done, I ended up reading - 11 single issues, 6 trades/graphic novels, and 10 novels. And I'm feeling really good about those numbers, I'm hoping to read more in September but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself about it.

This month I'm just going to list everything and then embed the videos I did for wrap ups, instead of rambling on and on. And I'm not sure I could pick a favorite from this mnth, anyway, so many good books.

June + July 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

Moving and just everything has been highly stressful, so I was on hiatus for a little while, but I don't feel right if I don't wrap up the months in some way. So June was a pretty good month, mostly of volumes of comics and single issues, but still pretty good.
  • Rusty Nailed (Cocktail #2) by Alice Clayton (3/5)
  • Kaptara #2 & #3 by Chip Zdarsky, Kagan McLeod (4/5)
  • All-New Hawkeye #3 by Jeff Lemire, Ramón Pérez (4/5)
  • Wayward #8 & #9 by Jim Zub, Steve Cummings (5/5)
  • Thor, Volume One: Goddess of Thunder & (single issues) #6, #7, #8 by Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman (5/5)
  • Spider-Gwen #5 by Jason Latour, Robbi Rodriguez (3/5)
  • The Wicked and the Divine #11 by Kiernon Gillen, Jamie McKelvie (5/5)
  • Nameless #4 by Grant Morrison,  (3/5)
  • Descender #4 by Jeff Lemire,
  • Batgirl, Volume 1: The Batgirl of Burnside by Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher (5/5)
  • Velvet, Volume 2: The Secret Lives of Dead Men by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting (5/5)
  • Redeployment by Phil Klay (5/5)
  • The Lost Hero: Graphic Novel by Rick Riordan (3/5)
  • Ms. Marvel, Volume 3: Crushed by G. Willow Wilson, Takeshi Miyazawa (5/5)
  • Wayward #9 by Jim Zub, Steve Cummings (5/5)
  • RunLoveKill #3 by Jonathan Tsuei, Eric Canete
  • The Melancholy of Mechagirl by Catherynne M. Valente (5/5) (so weird, and interesting)
  • The Trap Door (Infinity Ring #3) by Lisa McMann (3/5)
So I only read three novels/book books, five trades/graphic novels, and fourteen single issues. I'm really hoping to get more book books read, but I'm just so stuck in this slump, maybe now that I'm moved I can get more into it.

And then we had July, the actual month I moved in. I took the first day to see how much I could read and planned to do the same the second day when I got the call my apartment was ready and the equivalent of - oh shit, only like 75% of my books I liked, good god. And I still don't quite have all my books here, I'm not sure if they'll all go here or if I'll put some in storage, I guess we can figure it out at some point (my mom is also moving so those books are in bookcase with her stuff, it's complicated).

So what I read in July!
  • Whistling in the Dark by Tamara Allen (5/5) (seriously enjoyed and I 100% know why but it's slightly embarrassing - so good, though).
  • March, Book One by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, Nate Powell (5/5) (important. well written, important, and right to the heart)
  • If It Ain't Love by Tamara Allen (3/5)
  • Hawkeye #22 by Matt Fraction, David Aja (5/5) (it's over, I'm not okay about it, but it was fantastic)
  • Black Canary #1 & #2 by Brenden Fletcher, Annie Wu (5/5)
  • All-New Hawkeye #4 by Jeff Lemire, Ramón Pérez (4/5)
  • Injection #1, #2 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (3/5, 4/5)
  • The Wicked and the Divine #12 by Kiernon Gillen, Kate Brown (4/5)
  • Descender #5 by Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen (4/5)
  • RunLoveKill #4 by Jonathan Tsuei, Eric Canete (4/5)
  • Wolf #1 by Ales Cot (5/5) (so stoked for more, want more)
  • The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (5/5)
I did a video July wrap up / August TBR but I still wanted to type it all out so it's all in one place and nicely put together and such. (Video here)

So there was a lot of awesome shit that I read this month but even through all of it - The Song of Achilles. It's incredible and heart-wrenching and so beautifully written it hurts. I'd recommend it to just everyone - it hurts and it's beautiful, so damn beautiful.

Also I'm kind of planning on doing a few comics posts - recommendations and then what's on my pull list (which would be a long one, I could split up recommendations into separate things). Let me know if anyone would be interested in that and let me know what you've been reading in the comments - books, comics, fan fiction. I'm up to hear about anything. What have you been up to since I've been so out of touch with everything?

May 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

I can't believe May is over already, it was a crazy month, and I spent a lot of it trying to clean the house, packing the move out, and so not a lot of time reading. There was also a convention, that I want to make a post about but currently all I can form about Misti Con is - oh my god it was amazing, holy shit, I miss everyoneeeeee. And I don't you guys want to hear me wax poetry about how amazing everything was and how much I miss new/old friends.

Anyway - there was a read-a-thon this month, well more then one, but I really only participated in one. I have no idea when I'm moving, but I'm assuming it's early June so I'm trying to pack and you guys might understand how impossible it is to pack boxes. Especially when one has hundreds and hundreds of them - possibly 2,000 but we're not talking about that because I'll start to stress out more then I already am.

So I read a lot of comics this month - I got Marvel Unlimited this month and started just reading all the things on that, and comics are just easier when I'm stressing out. I read sixteen things and only two of those, I believe, were novels and they were both barely long enough to be considered that, hopefully next month is better, though it depends on when I can move in/start reorganizing everything.
  • Wayward #7 by Jim Zub, Steve Cummings (5/5)
  • Kaptara #1 by Chip Zdarsky, Kagan McLeod (4/5)
  • Captain America: Winter Soldier, Volume 1 by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting (4/5)
  • Captain America: Winter Soldier, Volume 2 by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting (5/5)
  • Captain America, Red Menace, Volume 1 by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting (4/5)
  • Young Avengers, Volume 1: Sidekicks by Allan Heinberg, Jom Cheung
  • Captain America, Red Menace, Volume 2 by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting (5/5)
  • A Mutiny in Time (Infinity Ring #1) by James Dashner (3/5)
  • Divide and Conquer (Infinity Ring #2) by Carrie Ryan (2/5)
  • RunLoveKill #1 & 2 by Jonathan Tsuei, Eric Conete (5/5)
  • Captain Marvel, Volume 2: Stay Fly by Kelly Sue DeConnick, + multiple artists (5/5)
  • Captain Marvel, Volume 1: In Pursuit of Flight by Kelly Sue DeConnick, + (5/5)
  • Spider-Gwen #4 by Jason Latour, Robbi Rodriguez (3/5)
  • Descender #3 by Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen
  • The Wicked + The Divine #10 by Kieron Gillen, Jamie, McKelvie
  • East of West #19 by Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta
There's suppose to be a weekly wrap up also going up today, and I didn't put one up last week because I was in New Hampshire. And this week I've just been packing/cleaning like a crazy person. I think I might be going on another hiatus until I'm moved and everything is set up because STRESS and no time to do anything fucking else. I'm also stuck in this strange cycle of not getting enough sleep, which was fine during a con but is not so fine right now.

I hope you guys had a good month - May is a lot of things, hectic for everything - so I hope everything went well and you read some good things amid all of that.

April 2015 | Monthly Wrap Up

It was a strange beginning of the month, it was one of those months that you can't quite believe was as long as it was. And I'm pretty sure it's because of how much I read. I didn't read an insane amount - well, a bit insane - but considering how much I've been reading, it was incredible.

Also, of course, the Dewey's 24 hours read-a-thon happened (links to stuff at the bottom of the post. Did you participate?) and so that added in a surprising amount of books, especially for only being awake for twelve hours.
  • The Woods, Volume 1: The Arrow by James Tynion lV, Michael Dialynas (3/5)
  • East of West #18 by Jonathan Hickman, Nick Dragotta (5/5)
  • Wayward #6 Jim Zub, Steve Cummings (5/5)
  • All New Hawkeye #1, #2 Jeff Lemire, Ramón Pérez (5/5)
  • Descender #1, #2 by Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen (5/5)
  • The Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (5/5)
  • The Wicked and the Divine #7,#8,#9 by Kiernon Gillen, Jamie McKelvie (5/5)
  • Spider-Gwen #1,#2,#3 by Jason Latour, Robbi Rodriguez (3/5)
  • Aliens: Fire and Stone by Chris Roberson, Patric Reynolds (3/5)
  • Alien vs Predator: Fire and Stone by Christopher Sebela, Ariel Olivetti (3/5)
  • Namesless #3 by Grant Morrison (2/5)
  • What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe (5/5)
  • Duma Key by Stephen King (5/5)
  • Cthulhurotica edited by Carrie Cuinn (3/5)
  • IT by Stephen King (5/5)
  • Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (5/5)
  • Predator: Fire and Stone by Joshua Williamson, Christopher Mooneyham (3/5)
  • Birthright, Volume 1: Homecoming by Joshua Williamson, Andrei Bressan (4/5)
  • Ask the Passengers by A.S. King (5/5)
  • Sex Criminals, Volume 2: Two Worlds, One Cop by Matt Fraction, Chip Zdarsky (5/5)
  • Ms. Marvel, Volume 2: Generation Why by G. Willow Wilson, Jacob Wyatt (5/5)
  • Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King (5/5)
  • Sex and Violence by Carrie Mesrobian (2/5)
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz (3.5/5)
  • Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz (5/5)
So, I might have gotten my reading mojo back this month? Just a tiny bit? I'm so relieved, in all honesty. I don't even know what I was doing when I wasn't reading at this point - did some time gremlin eat those hours? (I honestly don't know what the hell I was doing).

Anyway - books! Read-a-thons! It was a fun month, for sure, and I got a ton of reading done, as you can see (and bought way too many books, but that's besides the point). Next month will definitely not be as many, purely because I'm going to MistiCon (a tiny HP convention in New Hampshire) and then, possibly, BEA (it's unsure at the moment, but I miss New York like crazy).

So I read a lot this month, and I read a lot of good stuff. I do the mini-reviews in my weekly wrap ups, so if you want to hear about something particular that is your best bet (links below). I don't even know where to start, considering this is the part I usually highlight my favorites.

Alright, well, I reread two of my all time favorite King books - Duma Key and IT, and I still just adore the hell out of them, it'd been too long. The Portrait of Dorian Gray was so interesting, and I'm a little sad I didn't read it earlier. Sex Criminals, Vol 2 and Ms. Marvel, Vol 2 were incredible and you need to give both of these series a try, even just dipping your toe in. And on the YA contemporary end, I read quite a few this month - I really enjoyed both of the A.S. King books I read, and freaking adored Not Otherwise Specified by Hannah Moskowitz.

Obviously, I read a lot of good this month, which is my favorite kind of reading month. Now - what did you read this month? What was your favorite(s)? Monthly wrap up link?
