May 9th | Weekly Wrap Up #33

The first week of May started off with a kick in my reading that honestly surprised me, but I was just in the mood for reading. (And then the real caffeine withdrawal set in, which I've never experienced before but I do not recommend).

I also keep forgetting to include this, but I've been tracking my time (which I mentioned recently in my April wrap up). And so I know how much time I've been spending reading. Since I haven't done a weekly wrap up since the beginning of the month, and it's one day off, I'm going to just include all eight days of May so far. 13 hours, 4 minutes. Which I think is the most I've read in a week since starting to track my time, and I might of figured out a routine that works, as soon as I'm feeling better I can try and get back to it.

Besides that - onto the books, I guess!

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
The Raven King (The Raven Cycle #4) by Maggie Stiefvater (5/5)
And that's all there is.
I think I might be in shock, which is why I read so much after. Is that really the end?

Prince's Gambit (Captive Prince #2) by C.S Pacat (5/5)
Way different then the first book, for sure. I'm working on writing a full review for the whole series, speaking of....

Kings Rising (Captive Prince #3) by C.S. Pacat (5/5)
This series. I read it shockingly fast, though I was told to expect that, and damn that was good. (It's a dark series, though, I'd suggest looking into it before diving in). I really enjoyed it, though, it was interesting and fun.

Stuff:
I've been either reading or almost too damn tired to see straight, so I haven't been collecting anything for here. And I guess I don't have to, I've just chatted here before, but I'm still in the tired/muddled face of the caffeine withdrawal. I'm really hoping I feel better tomorrow for Bout of Books.

I guess I could mention that? Talk about it? If you didn't know - Bout of Books 16 starts tomorrow, week long readathon, my favorite honestly (I need sleep, guys, right now like all the sleep). Besides that, I'm not really sure what I'll end up reading during the week. I've got some things I'm currently reading and a stack to choose from - but there's also a back up stack, and also just generally my apartment is full of books.

And that's a little stressful in itself - I totally understand why people stick to TBRs, I wish I could just do that - but I'm still hopeful of getting a lot of reading done if I just don't think about it too hard. (my secret to everything I ever get done - not thinking about it too hard).

Besides that, it's been pretty run of the mill around here since the spur of the moment New York trip. And I want like one day without having to interact with people, generally - people are seriously exhausting.

Oh - well I saw Civil War, but I'm not going to say anything about it? Because I know people probably haven't had the time yet and most people don't like spoilers. It's Steve and Bucky focused, obviously I enjoyed it.

What have you been up to, read this week? Let me know!

April 11th | Weekly Wrap Up #32

I meant to put up a weekly wrap up last week and then it completely slipped my mind - weekends go by so fast no matter what - but I wanted to definitely make sure to put one up this week since yesterday (today as I'm typing this) is the beginning of a week long read-a-thon, which I'm hoping to get a lot of reading done it.

Books:
Disney After Dark (Kingdom Keepers #1) by Ridley Pearson (4/5)
I decided to reread this series so I can finally finish it - it's a 7 book series and I have the last one to read, but these books are fun. And I honestly remember nothing from this series. Also there's a spin-off series now. This is one of those, not guilty pleasures, but they're just not really... good. They're fun to read, Disney related with the characters, but mostly it's just fun. (finished at the very end of march so including it)

Disney at Dawn (Kingdom Keepers #2) by Ridley Pearson (3/5)
Mildly regretting the reread, but the rule normally is that series like this get better. This one is just a little too drawn out, maybe way too drawn out, it's ridiculous. Either way, I'm going to keep going - because I do enjoy this series, and I like the characters.

The Raven Boys (TRC #1) by Maggie Stiefvater (5/5)
I think it was my third time reading this book - honestly I thought I'd read it more, but probably just because of my love for this series. I'm not sure how much I've talked about it on here, but I am literally in love with this series, these characters. It's been a long time since I've felt like this about a series, it might be my second favorite series of all time (And it's not done yet! The Raven King comes out this month, though!! I am excited and terrified and very sad - but I'll be able to reread all four in a row all the time, which I'll be doing a lot, probably).

Disney in Shadow (Kingdom Keepers #3) by Ridley Pearson (3/5)
This one way way better then the second, but still dragged. It just had more happening during that dragging out of things, but it was also longer. Not regretting the reread as much after finishing this one, hopefully I get to the point where I don't regret it anymore.

Stuff:
Mostly not much has been going on since I got back from Ithaca - I went to Ithaca, by the way, I don't remember if I mentioned this here, probably in passing. Saw friends, shopped, drove for miles where there is nothing to see but trees/rocks. It was a lot of fun, though, and I'm glad I went.

Not so glad for how I was not feeling so good after, but thankfully I'm better now (hopefully). However, vitamin D thing still kind of has be knocked on my ass. I definitely don't think I've mentioned that here yet - the lowest vitamin d my doctor has ever seen, obviously I strive to hit new lows. Joking aside - never, I keep telling people that - it explains some of my not feeling so hot recently, a surprising amount of them, but most notably: exhaustion, brain being cloudy/memory not so good (though, my memory is normally not so good), but hopefully I'll be back to normal soon. I've taken 3 doses of the 50,000 whatever capsules, just 5 more to go.

Besides my random health problems - which are still not solved magically with learning that, not that I expected them to be, but it would of been nice - I haven't been up to much. I finally started working out again after being too tired/in too much pain to, and have more energy from that. Hopefully that continues.

I also went to a random wizard rock, kind of, show that was during a libraries' Harry Potter day. Sometimes I forget how many small children are into Harry Potter, might be because I haven't been to a show outside of a house party in over a year, not even a con. My first library show, though! (I'm pretty sure, unless I'm forgetting something, which is possible). It was so strange it was surreal.

So it's been a quiet two weeks, but I'm okay with that. I'm hoping for it to be a mostly quiet month, which it looks like it's going to be - some stuff to get done, start on, but no big plans or anything.

What have you been up to? Reading?

Let me know, happy reading!

February 2016 | Monthly Wrap Up

February was a hard month for me, and I'm not entirely sure why. I felt like maybe I was getting my head on straight and that fell short, but maybe soon? Who knows, really, who the hell knows. Besides that - it also wasn't a good month for reading. Which was disappointing after how good January was. Well, it wasn't good until the last week when there was a read-a-thon and I read six books, all of them rereads.

I made the mistake of reorganizing my books and realized how many books I wanted to read and how I'd probably never get to them and to many books. And then I didn't read from a book book until the 22nd, about (twenty days in the middle). I'm hoping the rereading will get me back into it. I just posted my weekly wrap up about the week of reading, with a spew that made, hopefully, some sense about my mixed feeling about how much I love the TMI and ID books.

Books:
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassie Clare (4/5)
City of Ashes (TMI #2) by Cassie Clare (4/5)
City of Glass (TMI #3) by Cassie Clare (4/5)
Clockwork Angel (Infernal Devices #1) by Cassie Clare (4/5)
Clockwork Prince (ID #2) by Cassie Clare (5/5)
Clockwork Princess (ID #3) by Cassie Clare (5/5)

Graphic Novels/Trade paperbacks:
Rick and Morty, Volume 1 by Zac Gorman, CJ Cannon (4/5)
Pop (#1-4) by Curt Pires, Jason Copland (2/5)
Hawkeye vs. Deadpool by Gerry Duggan, Matteo Lolli (3/5)

Single issues:
Paper Girls #1 - 5 by Brian K Vaughan, Cliff Chiang (4/5) (5/5)
Monstress #1, #2, & #3 by Marjorie Liu, Sana Takeda (5/5)

Obviously I enjoyed the rereads, and I already went over this, but besides that - Monstress was incredible, I was in love with it from the first issue. Paper Girls was very much the same, though a little unsure about it, but the first story arc for this series is fantastic. I highly recommend both of them.

How was your February - reading related or not?

February 29th | Weekly Wrap Up #32 (+ accidental discussion)

It's been a weird week. I decided to take part in a readathon: #5Books7Days, and I also decided to reread something. Mostly because I haven't been reading, I hadn't finished any books this month before this week. And, because of what I ended up rereading, I have a feeling I'll be trying to make sense in the "stuff" section and failing at it.

Books: (finished / actively reading)
Paper Girls #5 by Brian K Vaughn, Cliff Chiang (5/5)
The end of the first story arc, and we don't get a new issue until June. If you haven't read this series - I highly recommend it. It's so good and really damn weird at points. I'm really enjoying it.

And here we are, to what I reread (so far) this week. I'm going to just list them and then put general thoughts under it.

City of Bones (TMI #1) by Cassie Clare (4/5)
City of Ashes (TMI #2) by Cassie Clare (4/5)
City of Glass (TMI #3) by Cassie Clare (4/5)

So I first read this series (and literally just this, what was then, a trilogy), when I was in middle school about? I read the first two before the third came out and had to wait for it, that was torture. And I'm not sure what it is about the books, characters, but I know it's definitely related to that. I really love this series, though not as much as Infernal Devices, which we'll get to. Honestly - a lot of the time Clary drives me a little crazy, but mostly because of the decisions she makes. And how they never seem to really lay everything out.

Obviously I started this reread because the show started at the beginning of the year - and I hadn't really started watching it until this month. And, personally, I don't think it's... good? But it is definitely entertaining, seeing the changes they've made and some of the truly awful effects added. The weird chemistry. Anyway - it made me want to reread the books. I did the summer before last so I could read the last book in the TMI series, and they're - I don't know. I also wouldn't call them good, but they're interesting. And the world is pretty interesting and complex enough to hold that interest. I honestly don't know, why I love these books so much, especially considering the problems I have with the author (which we'll talk about down below).

Clockwork Angel (ID #1) by Cassie Clare (4/5)
Clockwork Prince (ID #2) by Cassie Clare (5/5)

I enjoy this series so much more then The Mortal Instruments and I think for a few reasons. The characters are more mature - in some areas, less mature in others. I don't know why, maybe it's because I like Tessa more then Clary - mostly because I identify with her more, I might not like Dickens as much as her (having not finished a full book by him yet) but I do love books. And I also like all the characters we meet and that live in the institute and such. I mean, obviously - Tessa, Will, Jem, but I also really like the other ones.

And, this is a weird thing, but I like how painful it is - starting in the second book, but more in the third one. They way they all are, and how Jem's health is, they're all just in constant pain from their emotions, basically. And this is a love triangle that, for some reason, I don't mind - and I won't say my main reason for it here, because spoilers. However - if you don't like TMI, give this series a try.

I think I'm going to continue with my reread, might as well since I'm this far, and I've never read the Magnus short story thing. However, I'm so torn about this - my love for this series, posting I'm reading about it places. I mentioned it on the first picture I posted this week, and I've been trying to write a whole discussion post about it - but I'm just going to put it here I guess.

Stuff:
Like I said, I've been working on a discussion post. Mostly trying to talk about my relationship with the TMI/ID series and Clare herself - mostly because I started watching the show, again like I already said, and I've been thinking about it.

If you're unsure why the hell I would dislike her - plagiarism. Just google it, I'm not going to spell it out here. It rubs me all the wrong ways, though, because it seems so damn disgusting - as a writer, and imagining someone stealing my words, makes me very angry. However, I fell in love with her series before I knew all of that (ironically, since I was actually in the HP fan fic community at the time, just not on that site). And so I guess that's how you separate the art from the artist, at least the only really way I can, is to have fallen in love with the world they write in before knowing.

Saying that all - for some reason - I'm not going to stop reading her work. Maybe if my favorite character wasn't going to appear in her new series, I'd be able to just say whatever and let it go (I would say who it is but spoilers, but I think there might be some guesses, former silent brothers, guys. Anyway), but I want to see what happens. I just plain do.

And I know for some people it doesn't bother them, or they've made up a defense for her in their head since they like her work, but I can't do that. Especially with the new claim that came out (was that this month or last? It was pretty recent. Also google, educate yourselves about what's up with this). So it annoys me, but mostly I'm annoyed at myself.

However - I don't think I should have to be. Sure, she appears not to be a very good person considering all of that, but why should that affect how much I enjoy her work? It should, considering it's directly linked to her work. But I've kind of decided, while keeping that in mind, that I just can't keep worrying about it, I just can't, because I'm going to keep reading her books - characters, I get very attached to them. Even then - since I'm writing this all out - obviously I'm having a hard time trying to get past it.

And now that I've rambled - and, even reading it over, am not sure any of that makes sense - now I'm curious - do you care? Did you know about this before? Am I over-thinking this (yes, but I over think everything. Anxiety).

February 8th | Weekly Wrap Up #31

First weekly wrap up of the month and it's full of comics - trades, single issues - and I read most of them before learning that it's #ComicsFebruary apparently. I guess I can be on board with that, considering, and it's not like I'm not super behind in single issues (even having read a good few this week. Next week I want to read more but also finish a book or two before I'm behind for wanting to read 100 in 2016 (100 just books, not counting single issues, maybe trades but hoping not to).

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Rick and Morty, Volume 1 by Zac Gorman, CJ Cannon (4/5)
If you haven't watched season 1 and 2 of Rick and Morty and have a strange, morbid sense of humor, or can like that kind of humor, you should probably watch Rick and Morty. It's ridiculous and just kind of a lot of fun.

Paper Girls #1 - 4 by Brian K Vaughan, Cliff Chiang (4/5) (5/5)
There's been a lot of excitement and love that I've seen about this series, and so I picked up the first few issues - thinking why not, I've liked a lot of the things Vaughan has done, and holy shit I was not expecting this series at all, let alone how much I really freaking loved it. I have no idea what it was about it, well I kind of do, but I highly suggest going into this series knowing as a little as possible. Four girls who deliver papers in the late eighties, and stuff happens. Read

Pop (#1-4) by Curt Pires, Jason Copland (2/5)
I had really high hopes for this mini series, but finally getting around to it - it just really fell short. I don't know what it was, but I guess I was kind of expecting more? It was still fun and interesting, but not what I expected at all.

Monstress #1, #2, & #3 by Marjorie Liu, Sana Takeda (5/5)
Okay. I don't think I can talk about this without just going oh my god it was so good you need to read it. But I'm going to try. The first issue is 72 pages, the start of an all new fantasy series and it's incredible and amazing and she's so angry. And I just really love when female characters are angry? When they're allowed to be angry. (Also if you've got any written by female comic reccs, I've realized how male my comic reading is. Please help).

Hawkeye vs. Deadpool by Gerry Duggan, Matteo Lolli (3/5)
This was interesting - and Fraction's Hawkeye(s), my favorite kind. (Though, one reason I love comics - different universes/different versions).  Anyway - this was more fun then I expected and had some moments that made me laugh, but, overall, wasn't something I was super in love with.

Stuff:
Two of my favorite YouTubers/Booktubers who I've been watching for years and year, made videos together this month (yay!): How to Get Back into Reading and How to get Organized & Get Shit Done. They're both long, discussion type videos but very, very good. Highly recommended. The first of these videos, the reading one, was kind of perfectly time because I'd just started working on my own discussion-y post about my recent reading like.

On a totally different subject - I watch BrownMan (Ray) replay Bioshock because I will watch anyone and everyone play Bioshock, I love that game. His playthrough was interesting since he kind of plowed through it.

Also finally got around to watching some Broadway con stuff like, for instance, the Hamilton panel. This started because I ended up watching my friend Jenny's BroadwayCon video (which you should def check out, that cats costume always blows me away a little. Mostly because I rarely find the motivation to put on eyeliner myself. And she looks incredible).

And this week I also did the 'keep track of the time I spent reading' thing and spent significantly less time then the week before (also spent almost an hour of it reading Hawkeye vs Deadpool, for some reason I was at a slow reading speed, must just of been tired. 3 hours, 42 minutes overall for this week, which is nothing, but I just wasn't in the mood. (Rant incoming)

(That isn't true - I was for certain things but I'm trying to finish Six of Crows, which I read some of this week, so I can move onto another book. But I also want to reread a bunch of things currently - either just for fun or because I want to continue with the series. For instance - City of Bones by Cassie Clare. I could probably write a whole discussion post about this series. Mostly, though nostalgia because started reading this one a bit after the 2nd one came out, so had to wait for the third, and kind of been reading ever since. They're not amazing but they're fun - kind of where it starts and ends for me with the series, I just adore the characters. Ironically, pretty much everyone more then Jace and Clary. It came up because I watched the newest episode of the TV show - which honestly isn't really... good, but I'm enjoying it? - and Magnus/Alec scenes. Also want to reread The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks so it's fresh in my mind and I can continue to the next ones, I remember less then I should for it being so recent, just a little over a year ago).

Besides me rambling about books and such - how was your week? What did you read / what've you been up to?

February 1st | Weekly Wrap Up #30

The last two weeks of January wrapped up - I was going to keep up with the weekly ones, but I hadn't read much and I wasn't feeling good (still not feeling good, we'll get to that later), and I'd only read two things so I was like eh. Got a few more things now, hopefully not too many.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking #3) by Patrick Ness (5/5)
I mostly listened to this one on audio, and so it was pretty slow going, but it was so damn awesome.  I want to reread this series from the beginning this year. Definitely recommended.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter #2) by J.K. Rowling (5/5)
Do I need to say anything, honestly?

The Force Awakens by Alan Dean Foster (4/5)
This was super interesting to read because there were a few things just a little different then the movie. (Which makes sense, I guess, since he probably got the script for it to come out on the same day as the movie. Still - interesting). It was also fun, but I kind of wished we'd gotten more scenes that we knew happened but that weren't in the movie. Ah, well.

Injection #6 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (4/5)
I love this series, I'm so glad we're getting issues again. So excited for more.

Wolf #5 by Ales Kot (3/5)
This series is still interesting enough that I haven't dropped it from my pull list, but it feels a little confusion for me, but I am looking forward to the next issue

100 Essays I Don't Have Time to Write by Sarah Ruhl (4/5)
I really enjoyed this. It took me longer to read then I would of liked, but I did just really enjoy it. I'm not super into the behind the scenes of plays, but it was even more interesting to see just a bit kind of behind the curtains. And the way she talked about things in such a condensed fashion. Fantastic, really.

Wayward #13 Jim Zub, Steven Cummings (4/5)
I started crying at the end of this - not even because of anything in the issue itself, but because of the little aside to Shigure Mizuki at the end, I didn't even know he'd passed. I really need to read more of his things. About the actual issue, though - gorgeous coloring, as always, and looking forward to more.

Playing the Game (Neighborly Affection #1) (2/5)Crossing the Lines (Neighborly Affection #2) by M.Q. Barber (3/5)
This series is fun so far - my pet peeves about it so far (for both books, really): the fact that in the first book, at the beginning, it isn't explained well to Alice, who is new and everything. But most of all is their inability to talk about things sometimes, and how bad Henry is at dealing with that part of it at points. Just speak the words - to be fair, Alice isn't being truthful, which causes problems. Will probably continue with this series, though (it's on Scribd, been my ebook read).

Stuff:
We'll start with the not feeling well - I haven't been feeling well this whole week. Physically, mentally - just been a shitty fucking week, to be blunt. (The week before was slightly better). So it hasn't been a great week, overall, and focusing with everything else hasn't been very good. So I'm honestly surprised at getting any reading done.

Besides that, I did get some reading done. I also decided to see how much time I spent reading during the week. I just thought it'd be interesting so this is the time: 7 hours, 34 minutes. It feels like such a small amount of time considering the good amount of reading I feel like I got done. I finished four books this week, along with reading some from other (I think, though not a lot, a few pages), and three single issues. All in less then eight hours.

And, considering how shitty and awful my week was otherwise - I feel really good about that, it makes everything a little better.

I'm hoping this week will be better, but I don't think it will be physically. Maybe mentally, though, feeling a tad better there.  How was your week? Let me know what you read or talk to me about the things I read!

January 18th | Weekly Wrap Up #29 (#24in48)

It was kind of hectic week, somehow, and I didn't get any reading done until the #24in48 readathon - update post, the website - but I got a surprising amount read in that time. I didn't end up reading the full 24 hours, but mostly because of my eyes, and I did end up reading quite a bit.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Black Canary #6 by Brenden Fletcher, Annie Wu
I don't really know what happened, but I am excited for what's next.

Captain America: White #5 by Jeph, Leob, Tim Sale (4/5)
I don't know why, since I've loved all the others, but this one kind of disappointed me a little?

Coffin Hill, Volume 1: Forest of the Night by Caitlin Kitteredge, Inaki Miranda (5/5)
A reread, but I honestly didn't remember any of this. So glad I decided to reread it and continue on with the series. It reminded me of Locke and Key in a few ways, mostly setting - old new england mansion, money, family. Ghosts. Creepy things - but all in the best ways, and it was also very different. And so damn good.

Coffin Hill, Volume 2: Dark Endeavors by Caitlin Kittredge, Inaki Miranda (4/5)
This one wasn't as good as good as the first, but I still enjoyed it.

The Wicked and the Divine #17 by Kieron Gillen, Brandon Graham (4/5)
The art for this was jarring for the first page, and then I got into it. And it was strange, interesting. I think when they come back after the hiatus, I'll reread the whole series.

Wayward #12 by Jim Zub, Steve Cummings (4/5)
What's going to happen next? This series continues to be steadily good, and steadily gorgeous as hell. Seriously, the colors are beautiful, and so are the essays in the back of the single issues.

Coffin Hill, Volume 3: Haunted Houses by Caitlin Kitteredge, Inaki Miranda (5/5)
Fantastic. Seriously, it was so damn good. I don't know what I was expecting from this series, but it wasn't this, and it was so good. I highly, highly recommend this series, sadly this was the end of it. Either way - highly recommended.

Restraint (Away We Go #2) by Charlotte Stein (2/5)
Interesting duology, but overall kind of meh. They're short and not badly written at all, but just lacking something, I guess.

A Gentleman in the Streets (Campbell Simblings #1) by Alisha Rai (4/5)
I picked this up on a complete whim and read it in less then three hours. And it was so good. I don't know what I expected, at all, but it was fantastic.

The Queen (White Years #4) by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
Ah, this series. These characters. I"m so damn attached to these characters, so sad this series is kind of... over. I don't think there's plans for another novel in this world as of now, right? Not with these guys? I am kind of in denial. (highly recommended series, not for the faint of heart)

Star Wars: Before the Awakening by Greg, Rucka, Phil Noto (4.5/5)
This was good, even really good, but I felt like Finn and Rey's pasts are pretty well depicted in the movie, so I felt like this was kind of unnecessary concerning them. I mean, it was definitely interesting - unnecessary might be too cruel, because I did enjoy their stories, but I got a little bored at points, nothing was unexpected. Also, since Poe has so little screen time - so little for me to kind of adore his character - I thought his part was the most interesting. Also he kind of has the most history to give, but I won't say anything more then that.

Stuff:
As I said earlier, and as you can see by what I read this week - there was a read-a-thon. And I'm feeling kind of good after it. I'm writing this while it's technically still going on, but I just can't read anymore. My eyes are going to fall out of my eyes, eye strain sucks - I'm so glad I can type things with my eyes closed so I don't have to see the damn (painful) screen.

Anyway - it was a fun read-a-thon, and weekend, and getting to see everyones updates and posts on twitter and instagram and such was also a lot of fun. And is honestly my favorite part about read-a-thons, it's just so damn much fun. Also probably my favorite part about social media in general, but that's a whole other thing.

I had original gone in wanting to get to the full 24 hours, but I just couldn't do it. I went into the read-a-thon with the beginnings of eye strain and so I have to take breaks or it would of gone into full blown eye strain the first day and that would of been that - it's full blown right now, but hopefully a good night of sleep and no screens or reading tomorrow will help it a bunch, even though all I want to do right now is read.

I've been in this... it's not a slump, or anything like that, it's almost been like an inability to read. And it's been going on for pretty much the whole year, honestly. Well, the whole of last year, obviously, this one has just started. And last year there were read-a-thons, and in December I finally felt like I was reading something. To be fair, I was always getting reading done, but I didn't feel like I was, because it just couldn't be compared to what I was reading before (2014 was my best reading year ever, probably can't be beat, but I want to try and at least get close to that again).

What I"m saying there is, I think I got some of my reading mojo back? I said it on the update post, too, and it kind of feels like jinxing it, but I guess I kind of forgot how much I really enjoy reading. And how... easy it is to just sit down and read and do other things around it, instead of the other way around.

Besides that - official read-a-thon numbers and whatever. I don't have an official page count (best estimate would be: 1,543) mostly because I read some things that can't be counted in pages and such, and this read-a-thon was all about the time spent reading, anyway. I ended up reading for 16 hours, 29 minutes. And, jesus christ, that was a lot of reading time. In total I read 4 single issues, 3 trade paperbacks, 1 novella, 3 novels. I probably could of read more, but that was just what I finished. I also listened to some of the Alexander Hamilton biography (this is going to take me the whole year...), a bit over a hundred pages of Monsters of Men, and other pages of things that I put down for various reasons (Infinity Ring series is going to be hell to finish, but I want to know what happens).

That's that, I guess, I normally add links and stuff here, but my eyes hurt too much to look for anything. Let me know how you did, if you participated, or just what you read over the weekend, period. If you've read or are interesting in any of the titles I mentioned, let me know!

Happy reading! (happy eyes, too, I hope your eyes are well and not feeling like they will explode. Seriously. It sucks).

December 7th | Weekly Wrap Up #26

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I've been really having the urge to blog and read lately, so hopefully that's a good sign I'm getting out of whatever the last few months have been. First off - I apologize that most of what is going to be in the 'stuff' section is just going to be stuff about what I've been up to instead of links - next week, or in two weeks depending on how much I read.

Speaking of reading - books first! What I've finished and then a brief mention of currently reading.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Kaptara #5 by Chip Zdarsky, Kagan McLeod (5/5)
I just love this series and it's ridiculous sense of humor and the art. It's just all great.

Wayward #11 by Jim Zub, Steven Cummings (5/5)
Been with this series since the beginning, loving it. And looking forward to the next arc next year. Also, as always, highly recommend the single issues because of the essays about Japanese culture, normally related to what happened in the issue, in the back.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness (5/5)
I just have loved everything this author has written that I've read so far and this was no exception - I really loved that their lives are happening just kind of around what would normally be the focus of some Chosen One story (which I love, don't get me wrong, but I've wondered about how the other kids survive/think about it since the prom scene in Buffy).

Doll Bones by Holly Black (4.5/5)
I mostly listened to this through audible - while making things, more on that in the stuff section - but about this one. This is narrated by one of my favorite narrators who, actually, I just recently put together as this. I think the first audiobook I really fell in love with was The Name of the Wind - I really loved his narration of The Knife of Never Letting Go, though, as well. Which is related to how I rediscovered him - about this, though - Fantastic read. Adorable, middle grade adventure, with hints of magic you can really take as real or not (I'm going to take it as real because magic).

And, on that note, I'm currently reading - listening to in this case - Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness. I've been putting off reading it because I know it's going to hurt, but I decided I finally needed to just do it. It's been long enough.

I'm also currently reading The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan - some reason I can't get into this, I don't know why but I'm going to keep trying, only 16% through. And 100 Essays I Don't Have Time to Write: On Umbrellas and Sword Fights, Parades and Dogs, Fire Alarms, Children, and Theater  - which I'm enjoying, I saw a few snippets of it posted somewhere and I really loved them. So far so good, about 18% through and taking my time.

Stuff:
So.
The stuff part I've been talking about.

I started this like intense crocheting period from the last few days of November, starting the 29th, to well it hadn't stopped as of writing this - yesterday, Sunday.  And I made a bunch of stuff and not a lot of reading was done during that time, but more reading then I'd been getting done, which I was more then okay with.

During the about eight days I made - a throw blanket (thick yarn, crocheted 3x5feet), 6 various types of hats (trying to figure out what pattern I like best, because hats), 1 thick yarn crochet scarf, 1 loom double knitted scarf (technically I think it's called the crossed stockinette stitch, but - double knitted, both sides). And that's only the stuff I've finished, there's quite a few things I've started (including the main body of teddy bear before realizing I had no stuffing, which I'll get soon hopefully).

I've been posting pictures, I'll link them at the bottom so I can list what they're of, but it's been a whirlwind, I'm not sure how this happened. I started crocheting about two months ago, September 22nd. I'd knitted before and such, but had never gotten into crocheting - and that was apparently a good thing. Because now I can't start. Also loom knitting, that's fast and a lot of fun, how I made most of the hats (5/6), and the double scarf.

Anyway, everyone who doesn't care probably skimmed that, which I completely understand, I also accidentally marathoned the whole first season of the Flash and the first two seasons of Arrow.(stalled in the beginning of s3 of Arrow, so just switched, meant to just watch a few episodes of the Flash. Oh well, I'll get back to arrow, if just for the badass ladies and Olicity).

What are you up to? I've been so out of loop, hopefully I can slowly get back into it, though I have a busy week head, more chiropractor stuff and probably more crocheting, hopefully reading.

I hope you've had a great week, and let me know what you've been up to or drop your own weekly wrap up link in the comments so I can see!

October 5th | Weekly Wrap Up #24

I skipped a week because I literally finished one book and one single issue that week, because my mom started moving and I was very, very anxious (stressed because of that but also anxious because anxiety is an asshole). And we had one slightly chilly day so I started crocheting (you crochet? you might be asking - yes, I do as of the Tuesday before last. I know how to knit, have known for years, but I think I like crocheting better? (Don't tell knitting, shhh).

Anyway - this is a book blog, I think, i've been a little stressed and scattered, but I think that's still what this is, right?

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Captain America: White #1 by Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale (4/5)
I haven't read any of the other color series that they've done, but I'm here for this one? I haven't gotten to into comic Steve pre-modern time (mostly I've read some of Brubaker's run, want to read more, but that's pretty modern with some flashbacks). This is pretty much all flashback, also it almost made me cry two pages in, so there's that.

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien (5/5)
It took me almost a month to read this, but it was so damn good. There was so much I loved of this book, that I just felt so deeply. It's so very stark and honest feeling, and the way he talks about storytelling might be one of my favorite things ever. And I'm glad as hell I picked this up.

Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith (3/5)
So adorable. It was just so adorable and also painful, she captured that feeling really well, that 'we're leaving for college' feeling.

Driven to Distraction (Hollywood Heat #2) by Ashleigh Raine (2/5)
I didn't read the first one, this one seemed more interesting. And it was - fine. It wasn't strictly bad but it definitely wasn't really good either? But it was kind of what I expected - minimal plot, fun characters, like 80% sex. So it was fun, that's it.

Legion (Legion #1) by Brandon Sanderson (4/5)
I first read this by listening to it on audio and I don't remember when that was (September 2013, wow what a good I did, reading it exactly two years later). And I enjoyed it, it definitely kind of feels like a set up thing and too short, but I really love this idea and I think it could be super interesting and intense.

Stuff:
So stuff hasn't really been happening. I've been watching mostly peoples monthly wrap ups and not a whole hell of a lot else. I've been anxious and crocheting and mostly failing at reading - if I haven't read in like two days it still feels like failing to me for some reason. And I've just been kind of very anxious on top of everything with everything going on - it's been insane since I moved, it hasn't really let up. And I really cannot wait until it's all over and we're both settled (and I have god damn heat. It was so damn cold the last few days, legally we're suppose to have it by October 15th, we'll see how that goes), but hopefully then I'll be able to take a few days to decompress and breathe.

Until then - I'm sorry to say blogging stuff is going to be pretty spotty and probably a little underlining thing of (ahhhhhhhhhhh). Hopefully by the end of the month that'll mostly be over, but we'll see.

September 21st | Weekly Wrap Up #23

A read-a-thon week, as next week will also be, but also this week I tried to get the rest of my books into my apartment (I was starting to get separation anxiety, my books, come to me!). And my mom got word that she'd be moving next week, so like pre-stress. Moving might be the most long lasting and stressful thing I've ever done, probably mostly because of how bad we are at it. (I'm kind of hoping to count how many books I own - read and unread - once everything is more settled, I have a feeling I'm going to have to do like sticky notes by few shelves so I don't look track).

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
A Curious Tale of the In-Between (Pram #1) by Lauren DeStefano (4/5)
I was so strangely pleasantly surprised about this book - I started hearing good things because it'd come out and so I decided to jump and give it a shot. And I just really loved it - the whole feeling of it, the more serious things, the characters, the world. I really loved it and highly recommend it!

Lady Killer, Volume One by Joëlle Jones, Jamie S. Rich (5/5)
I've been anticipating this for months, because I found out about this series about when issue three was coming out, and couldn't find issues one or two anywhere for the life of me. And I was not disappointed, even for the wait and the anticipating. This book is what it says it is and definitely delivers, but I'm kind of a sucker for assassins. Especially with normal lives.

The Marvels by Brian Selznick (5/5)
I don't even know what to say about this, I didn't know anything going into it - it was Selznick, I didn't really need to know anything. And I'm glad I went in like that, so I don't want to give too much away. Basically it was beautiful and breathtaking and heartbreathing. And so fucking good and I recommend going and reading it. Also, you might need tissues (not sure why this book gripped and yanked on me so far, probably just because it's been an emotional week. But damn, it was so good).

Injection #5 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (5/5)
I am just so into this series right now, it feels so fresh and original. Basically, I'm learning, that anything Warren Ellis writes is automatically a must read for me now.

Planet Hulk #5 by Sam Humphries (2/5)
I didn't expect it to go the way everyone was hoping - I was hoping, too, and it seemed pretty straight forward to go that way - and then it didn't feel like it ended? It was a strange tiny story arc where I don't feel any closer. However, I've learned I want a full thing of Steve and Bucky being Gladiators, that'd be cool.

Stuff:
Honestly, between getting the (almost) last of my books finally into my apartment and stress in general, and reading. I haven't been looking into too much on the internet. Mostly trying to catch up on Night Vale and listening to wrock.

Also been watching or rewatching Markiplier scream/play games. (Mostly Until Dawn and FnaF)

September 14th | Weekly Wrap Up #22

A weekly wrap up! Getting back into swing of things, and I think I'm going to do this only every week if I have a lot to talk about, and maybe every two weeks if I don't - but I'm glad to back doing them, regardless.

It was a weird two weeks, but I got some videos up on YouTube (both parts of my August wrap up are in my blog post the September TBR one is in the September TBR post)

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King (3/5)
This might be the first classic werewolf monster story I've read - I know, considering how much werewolf stuff I've read - and I just felt kind of eh about it. I guess I expect probably too much from King books, and it definitely had elements (the characters were surprisingly well developed for so few pages), but overall it was just - fine, okay, the illustrations were also just okay.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik (4/5)
On one hand, I loved this book - the world, the characters, the writing, how it kind of had some lines i just loved. But it wasn't perfect and I had problems with it and there were points that dragged for me. I think I said 'boring' somewhere, but that isn't exactly the right wording, it just was kind of eh then. Either way - I'd still highly recommend this book.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvater (5/5)
I'm caught up on this series and what do I do with my life now? I love these books so much - I'm just in love with them, have been since the first one. I don't know what it is but it's just all encompasing and I'm fully aware I can't be objective about them. I love the characters, the writing, the world, the plot. All of the things in this book are so good, and exactly what I want. And I can see where it isn't for some people, I get it, but I'd highly suggest reading the first one, giving it a chance. People say it's confusing but I haven't been confused by any of the books, just go with it.

War-Fix by David Axe, Steven Olexa  (2/5)
I don't know how I feel about this, really. I picked it up on a whim for a few dollars, also to have a book I knew nothing about, and it looked interesting. But something about it was just off for me, even though it was very interesting. I can't even put my thoughts together about how I feel about this one.

Injection #4 by Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey (5/5)
I feel like I'm starting to get a grasp on this series, understanding it more even though there's still a ton of unanswered questions. And I'm just loving it so damn much. I made a good decision picking this one up, pretty much for the title and then Ellis.

Descender #6 by Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen (4/5)
Enjoying still, definitely a series to check out (I think the first trade should be due out soon, for you not single issuers).

Black Canary #3 by Brenden Fletcher, Annie Wu (4/5)
Why do I love this series so much? Because I want to be Dinah? Possibly, possibly. Definitely want her clothes, pretty much have her hair (sans fringe).

Wolf #2 by Ales Kot, Matt Taylor (4/5)
This one was not as action packed, what the hell I love it as the first one was, but I still really enjoyed it. And the world seems super interesting and cannot wait to read more.

Justice Calling by Annie Bellet (2/5)
Eh. It was better at first, but still not great, and by the end of it I was just kind of like bleh. The world seemed interesting, but for some reason it just fell really short for me. It was free, though, so I'm not too upset about that.

I meant to start and finish a few things this weekend, but it ended up being more crazy then I expected - there was a wizard rock house party/show. And then I ended up getting my last bookshelf moved into my apartment, hopefully the last of the books will follow. Currently reading The Things They Carried and Stonewall - ah, how slow I read non-fiction. Hoping to finish both this month, but probably not this week.

Stuff (music/videos/links/nonsense):
It's been a while since I've done one of these, so I don't even know what to put here. Well, I've been listening to Halsey's album BADLANDS on repeat for the past week and a half, maybe more. That's a thing.

Also found this really cool YouTube channel recently that does old timey covers of songs (favorite one).

YouTube videos: Bookish Pet Peeves, Markiplier Reacts to Teens React to Markiplier, Making of the Welcome to Night Vale audiobook, A Week of Videos: Overcoming Creative Apathy, #bookishseptember is here!!

I think since I've done one of these Book Riot has launched a podcast I adore called All The Books! which is about the weeks new book releases, highlighting four (sometimes more, chatting about books). (Also they've now launched their recommendation show which I totally forgot about until I want to go grab the link for this, it launched yesterday as I'm writing this, but this past Thursday for you guys - Get Booked).

April 27th | Weekly Wrap Up #17

This was definitely a good week. It felt ridiculously long, but I'm really pleased with what I got done. There was some rereading and an awesome read-a-thon. And, considering that, we're just going to go straight into the books because that's all that happened and it'd be a long post if I rambled (more then I am).

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
IT by Stephen King (5/5)
A reread. (For the... 20+ time? I don't think I'm exaggerating, if I am it's not by much). God, I love this book. As I love all of King's work that I've read so far, which is less then I'd of liked because I keep going back and rereading what I've already read.

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (5/5)
So cute, oh my god. I've got a minor problem with some of the things this MC thinks in the beginning, but he's a teenager. Also - it's fluffy fun, alright?

Predator: Fire and Stone by Joshua Williamson, Christopher Mooneyham (3/5)
Eh. This whole event is really strange and really interesting, but they're a little throwaway? Still enjoying them, but also I'm not too fond of the guy that's the MC in this one, bit of a dick.

Birthright, Volume 1: Homecoming by Joshua Williamson, Andrei Bressan (4/5)
I was getting this in single issues, but for some reason wasn't reading it. I don't even quite remember why, it just looked really interesting, and I was not disappointed. I adored this, seriously, completely adored.

Ask the Passengers by A.S. King (5/5)
I really, really enjoyed this. I wasn't sure what to expect, going into it, I just knew some stuff. And I was really pleasantly surprised, and I also think this is a great place to start with this author (having only read two of her books, this being the first, I'd take that with a grain of salt), but it seems to have less magical realism then some of her others - more on that in a few books.

Sex Criminals, Volume 2: Two Worlds, One Cop by Matt Fraction, Chip Zdarsky (5/5)
I already knew I was going to read anything Fraction put out ever - ha, put out - but I'm thinking that officially includes Zdarsky as well. God, this series is good, and I get the feeling it is just getting started and is going to be really fucking good. I'm seriously excited and it's so good. If you don't like dick jokes, you won't enjoy this, but it's also way more then that - it's much deeper, stop laughing, and surprised me at a few points. It's definitely a step up from volume one, and I adored volume 1.

Ms. Marvel, Volume 2: Generation Why by G. Willow Wilson, Jacob Wyatt (5/5)
Superheroes and commentaries on the world - and not just that. An MC POC badass female superhero who is smart, sure of herself, and unapologetically a teenager of the 21st century. I love her, I really do, and I love the other characters, too, even though I wish we'd gotten a little more. Also - don't have much experience with Wolverine, but them together was kind of fucking awesome. This whole thing was kind of awesome. Seriously - read Ms Marvel (and Sex Criminals) and be a happier person.

Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King (5/5)
I read two of her books in, well, less then 12 hours actually, I think. I couldn't say which I enjoyed more, but I really enjoyed that the magical realism was more in this book. More present and there and really interesting.

The Angel by Tiffany Reisz (5/5)
Some accidental rereading occurred here. (Seriously, though, I highly recommend this series, but definitely not for the faint of heart).

I'm just going to add this because it's a fun fact - well, a book nerd fun fact - considering all the things I read (IT being so long, Dewey's) I thought I'd see how much I'd read the whole week. So I read 3,263 pages this week! Insane, right? Whew.

Stuff:
Letter to a Young Reader - maybe some things some of you need to hear. It never hurts to hear some things.

Eisner Award Nominations! I've never really payed any attention to this, and will probably only give it a curious look when the winners are announced, but still cool. (Comic awards)

April 20th | Weekly Wrap Up #16

It was a strange week, but definitely a good one. I finished the same amount of books as I did comics, which felt fucking fantastic. Man, the not reading thing was going to make me throw myself out a window soon or something. I'm not even sure I'm being overly dramatic there, it was getting to a point where I was loosing it a little.

Don't want to jinx it or push myself too hard, but I did finally finish some books, novels to be precise. And whatever you'd consider What If? and I think I have a kind of just social media (I think) read-a-thon that popped up last minute by some Booktubers. Sometimes seeing people read can just help, you know?

So I'm optimistic, but cautious. Anyway - books.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Namesless #3 by Grant Morrison (2/5)
I'm still not sure fully how I feel about this series. I'd like some real explanation of something soon. I reread #1 and #2 before this one, and - yeah, give me something, anything.

Descender #2 by Jeff Lemire (4/5)
I'm super excited to see what is going to come of this series, honestly super excited. It's interesting and seems to be going to be very complex.

All New Hawkeye #2 by Jeff Lemire (4/5)
I loved this issue to much before of the circus flashbacks, and how the flashback parts are all watercolor and completely gorgeous. The artist/colorist is currently the main reason I'm sticking with this - also it is still Hawkeye. I think I want more of Fraction's world, the kind of "aw, ___, no" Hawkeye. I'm going to stick with it, hope for the best, I have some faith in this writer.

What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions by Randall Munroe (5/5)
This book was just kind of freaking awesome. It had so many weird interesting scenarios and random facts. And definitely recommend it to people who like some theoretical scenarios/physics kind of thing. Go forth and science.

Duma Key by Stephen King (5/5)
Jesus christ. It'd been 2 years since I've read this and, while I remembered the plots and such, I'd just kind of forgotten how much I freaking love this book. And this is definitely going to kick me off on a King reread, I think. (IT is next. Have you read IT? Listen, I know it's long, but it's so good).

Cthulhurotica edited by Carrie Cuinn (3/5)
Yes, this is a thing I read. I picked it up... a while ago, unsure when I'll check hopefully before this goes up (August 2012, thanks, Amazon). Anyway - it was fora Felicia Day's book club and I just didn't end up getting around to it. And so, tail end of January, at three in the morning, I went - I should read that. And now here we are. Some of the stories were surprisingly good, maybe not fantastic but good, others were just why or a bit of a slog. A good portion were good, and I really enjoyed the last essay about the genre new weird and such, interesting stuff. Solid three stars, fun and even good at points but not amazing.

Stuff:
Jen's Favorite Book Dedications - this is fun, I like things like this.

YA Book Riot Unboxing - I have been convinced to subscribe for next month, see how I feel about it. Books, fun times.

Someone I follow (Sarah Says Read) posted a comics wrap up type of thing - and it reminded me I'd been thinking of some comic related posts. Also, now I want to read Lady Killer.

I - don't have anything else really to offer? I haven't really been internet-ing much. And I'm trying not to put one Rooster Teeth/Achievement Hunter video here every week, which is mostly what I watched this week as I'd fallen behind. Oh, and Daredevil. I'm taking it slow, because I know it's going to probably be a hell of a wait. I'm really loving it so far. Slower paced, but I don't mind that. And fighting, explosions, fantastic actors and actresses - what more can you want, really?

March 30th | Weekly Wrap Up #13

I didn't post a weekly wrap up last week because I just - still wasn't reading anything and so I'm glad to report I finished a book this week! *super hero stance*

Okay, in all seriousness, though, my inability to just read is still driving me a little crazy even though I have finally read a full book. Not a comic or a whatever, a book book. I'm so stupidly proud of this. Also this week I just put together videos/blogs/random stuff because I didn't have a lot of some, more of others.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
I'll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios (4/5)
Cute, also heartbreaking. I'm really glad I read this, and I'm really glad it's out there (especially in YA) but I still felt like there were some glossed over things. Saying that - I'm also not sure that isn't unrealistic. Overall, I enjoyed it, really loved the characters, and it actually broke my heart a little.

I don't know what I'm going to start next, but I've got a ton of single issues that I'd like to binge through (especially as I have more coming, no regrets). I'd also like to finish some of the books I've been currently reading for a month or more, but I'm not going to be annoyed at myself if I picked up something else, like with I'll Meet You There.

Cool Stuff I've Liked:
If you only click on one link to watch - Great Science Fiction Authors. A fantastic person overall, great channel. And a really great video about (whoops all female, ayooo) SciFi authors!

Books To Help You Get Back Into Reading - books. I haven't taken any of her recs for this, but the video itself helped. Personally, though, I'm just trying to get to a reading slump.

Anime 808 (Nanalew / Shawna) - how I adore her and this series. This is the latest but you should watch through them all, really. Because anime.

Book Riot's Quarterly Unboxing - I loved my box and I love watching these unboxing that are on the Book Riot channel.

So... this is was more last week and the week before, but I didn't post anything last week. If you're squimish, I'd suggest against this but... There's a lovely video gamer Markiplier. Five Nights at Freddy's lets plays. (That the playlist). Also if you want, just scroll to the bottom of the playlist on the side and watch the animated reaction videos because priceless.

And my mom and I are still working our way through our Stargate SG-1 rewatch (have I mentioned this? Because so good).

I discovered this week that a friend of mine has a book blog (I am the worst). And it was her birthday this week so if you're looking for a feminist awesome blog about books (plus: there's Buffy).

And, last but seriously fucking awesome - Spore. About 6 minutes, short film, horror side. Mary Kate Wiles, Ashley Clements. Honestly, I don't want to tell you any more then that, I just put the horror there for people who don't like it. I seriously loved it.

Now that we've covered all of that, I'm curious as to what you are reading? Or what have you found that's cool or you've enjoyed this week/recently?

March 16th | Weekly Wrap Up #12

I'm still mostly at the point where I can't read. I want to read, really want to, and I've reorganized the books closest to me to try and get me back into it. But instead I find myself on tumblr, mostly crying over things relaxed to Steve/Bucky (I have regrets, but also noregrets). And writing a surprising amount for all of that.

I still can't just - read. And it's driving me marginally crazy. Which sounds stupid, because I was fine at first. I'd been going for a while, I knew I was going to crash and burn on the reading front soon and that was fine. At this point, though, it's been a while. Like over a month, a month and a half probably since I've really just been able to sit down and read, and reading helps with my stress and with the crushing anxiety I have - and so not reading, is very bad.

Also, it means I'm not posting anything here. I want to, I have some ideas knocking around (I always do - discussion posts, past reviews I should do), but I don't want to when I'm not in the mood. I don't enjoy forcing words and normally it's just nor right (I've been working on posts and yet to get any to the point of where I want to post them).

Mostly, I'm saying - sorry, I suck. Well, not really, but kind of. Because I can't read. If you want to tell me what you're reading, though, that'd be greatly appreciated! Or solidarity in the - 'it was meant to be a reading break but now I would consider this a slump and I miss books' area.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Nameless #1 & #2 by Grant Morrison, Chris Burnham, more (3/5, both)
I think this is definitely going to be an interesting series. I'm not super impressed yet, but I'm definitely intrigued and interested. And I'm keeping it on my pull list. It drops you in the story, which I always kind of enjoy the what is going on here scramble, and I'm enjoying the art (love the cover of #1), so I've got some hopes I'll like it more as it digs more into the story.

The Fade Out, Act One by Ed Brubaker, Sean Phillips (4/5)
This was really interesting, slightly strange. Last forties hollywood scene, starting with the death of the lead actress on this movie. It's really just starting, it's a kind of slow building, but I really enjoyed this one and I'm looking forward to more. But I'm probably just going to wait until volume two and not start picking up single issues. Still - definitely worth a look, I think, and the art is different, the style definitely fits well.

What I've Been Watching:
So... our Dish box... thingy is broken. Which means DVD time! (Well, it's a Blu-Ray player but shut up). And so my mom has accidentally gotten into a Lord of the Rings binge (which I totally approve of, she's been watching them at night).

And we've also, also accidentally, kind of started a Stargate SG-1 rewatch from the very beginning. I think I've spewed my love for SG-1 here before, but it's a show my mom was super into it when i was very young. And I remember watching it new, watching it whenever there were reruns. And then, being older, and watching it randomly, also watching from the beginning through all the episodes. God, i love this show.

LITERARY REFLECTIONS: WHERE MY GIRLS AT (PART I) - this post speaks to me, on multiple levels, because it's something I've definitely noticed as well. (And oh man so many books listed in one place). And I've debated making a post about why it's important to try and read diversely, even though others have said it better, but I keep coming back to the idea because I could organize a bunch of things in one place. Either way - important shit about queer/LGBTQA+ girls in fiction.

Random:
So much fan fiction has been read in place of physical books. There are some regrets there, but I do love getting my heart ripped out, stomped on, set one fire, thrown of a cliff... and then sometimes stitched back together. Or at least I must because I keep reading those types of fan fictions (there's fluff in there, too). Anyway - if you'd like to spaz out about Steve/Bucky with me (or Steve/Peggy, really, but also... Peggy/Angie, though haven't read any fic for that). Tumblr.

All in all this post isn't very full, but I didn't want to fill it up too much and I feel like these are the most important things to what I've been up to. (Or just important like that blog post). And I'm still figuring out how these work, how I want to do them, and I'll find my feet eventually. Also probably change it around how the weeks go, because weeks are different and such.

Anyway - I hope you had a great week. And I'd love to hear from you. About any of things I've talked about or about about what you've been up to this week (read, watched, video games, didn't do).

Well - nothing, kind of. I'm still not back into reading... really at all, even having actually read things this week, but I'm getting there.

February 9th | Weekly Wrap Up #8

It was a very... strange week for me, actually. I didn't get a lot of reading done at all for the main part of the week. I finally connected all the things for my desktop so it was fully functioning (with speakers!!). For some reason, some things just take me forever. See - sending out packages to friends that I still haven't done and they were suppose to go out at Christmas. I'm an awful person. And I can't stop thinking about it, so it's gotten to the paralyzing anxiety phase.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Monstrous Affections: An Anthology of Beastly Tales edited by Kelly Link, Gavin J, Grant (5/5)
A really fun anthology, I did a goodreads review of it. I don't think I'm going to post a full review here, since there isn't much else to say. Some of the stories were fantastic, some were just eh, but there were definitely more hits then misses.

Good Omens: BBC Radio 4 dramatization (5/5)
I was kind of waiting to savor the last few episodes of this. I listened to episodes one and two pretty much right away, because.... well because Good Omens, in all honesty. And loved them, and then just listened to the rest and loved those too. They're so good, freaking fantastic. And now all I can think is how much I really need to reread that book!

No Matter the Wreckage by Sarah Kay (5/5)
I love Sarah's poems, it's amazing and incredible. She's a spoken word poet, which I wrote a post about this week, but if you want a taste of her poetry -  Mrs. Ribeiro + Ted Talk (If I had a daughter / B is first) + Postcards + Speaker's Spotlight video
(Also:  Sarah Kay's and Phil Kaye's: "An Origin Story" "When Love Arrives")
I highly recommend it all.

And then for currently-reading. I'm currently reading a bind up of The Southern Reaches trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer, finally finished the first book (which is like 130 pages out of the 600). It's New Weird, I think it's the genre title - it's kind of has that Lovecraft feeling, and just overall weirdness. Also still currently reading Spook and A Tale of Two Cities. There's a read-a-thon this week, and I'm hoping that'll push me back into reading more then I have been the last few weeks.

What I've Been Watching:
One of the main reasons this week has just been... off, for me. Was because of this: Monty Oum Passes Away at 33 - The Know. RoosterTeeth animator (RT should be familiar if you've ever seen one of these weekly wrap ups from me. I adore what they do. And this was such a shock, an awful shock because he was so young and... it was just kind of rougher then I expected, probably because of it on top of the recent person loss, as well. Which sounds strange, I guess, but it's true). Now - onto... more uplifting things.

THE RETURN! Sims 3: Ex-Presidents DLC - Hank Green. Playing the Sims. I've been missing these gaming videos and I'm glad they're back. Speaking of Hank - I don't think I mentioned this vide: How to do ALL THE THINGS (ft. Hank Green).

Sword and Laser episode 204 - I've been kind of really enjoying watching the filming of S&L (SciFi/Fantasy book club. Goodreads).

And then some Booktuber monthly wrap ups, two of my favorites. SableCaught's and books and pieces.

Blog Posts I've Liked:
We Could Be Millionaries... if it weren't for books - good god. Even trying not to buy books, trying to have rules, I've still spent more money on books so far this year then I should have (I'll get better at resisting books as we go right? RIGHT?)

Top Ten Fantasy Books I Can't Believe I Haven't Read Yet - these kinds of list are (1) fun and (2) reassure me that I'm not the last person on the planet to not read certain books.

Review: Of Things Gone Astray by Janina Matthewson by Outlandish Lit - I admit I clicked on the review because that cover it gorgeous (go, look at it. Drool). And it sounds surprisingly good, whimsical and such.

Miscellaneous:
It was a weird week, which is why there aren't as many links. I did rediscover my desktop computer, though (which I end to neglect because, let's be honest - my laptop is just easier. And it has all the things I love on it). However - I have put in quite a few hours on that desktop this week. Mostly play Minecraft, if we're being honest (or the Sims), but sometimes I just like playing something and listening to something. It's how I finished the dramatization of Good Omens and got myself into Annihilation / Southern Reach series.

It's also why there isn't as much stuff and why I haven't been as present on the internet, well the last few weeks have just been rough ones, so there's that as well. And double escaping through video game and audio might not be the best idea for productivity, but sometimes it's needed.

February 2nd | Weekly Wrap Up #7

Technically the first week of February, but really just the last week of January. I can't believe it's already a month into the New Year, even though it felt like a long month. Let's get into it right away so I don't make this post any longer.

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Saint City Sinners (Dante Valentine #5) by Lilith Saintcrow (3/5)
I'm determine to finish this series, I need to know how it ends. And I enjoy these books I read them, but as they go on - I get more annoyed with the characters, less caring about the plot. Though, some of the deaths so far have hit me hard (this book in particular). No spoilers, though. And I am enjoying this series, this is second to last of it, and then onto her Jill Kismet series, which I'm really excited for.

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely #1) by Melissa Marr (5/5)
A reread of an old faerie favorite. I hadn't thought I missed this series, this world, these characters - but I definitely do. (Goodreads mini-review). If you like faeries, darker but also young adult, a great series.

To Hell and Back (Dante Valentine #5) by Lilith Saintcrow (4/5)
And... I don't know what I expected from this series finale, but I was surprised at how much I needed to know what the hell was going to happen.

Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black (5/5)
Holly Black's writing is just phenomenal, I really love it, and as I read more of her books she's becoming one of my favorites. My goodreads review (short, sweet, written right after I finished it), says about the same thing and talks about how I'd want to see this book as a 'webseries' type thing.

Currently reading a surprising number of things - I think I'll be taking my time on both Spook and A Tale of Two Cities, just because they're both that type of slower reads (for different reasons). And No Matter the Wreckage by Sarah Kay - a collection of her poetry, a post about that kind of thing should go up soon.

What I've Been Watching:
Can't Put It Down, Have to Put It Down - I really liked this video, because I have this problem a lot with certain books and I need to just accept it. Mostly non-fiction, but also just heavier topics or more complex writing.

How Orwell Wants Us To Write - this was a little confusing, and reenforced the thing that I need to seriously read some Orwell, but it was super interesting (and not confusing as soon as I found my feet).

Thoughts From the Edge - Ah, Hank Green. Sometimes, most of the time, I think Hank is my favorite Green brother. This video enforced that a bit (don't look at me like that, I adore John and his books, of course, but Hank can do all the things, guys, that's a skill I am in awe of).

Hello! (Wake Up Date #8) - Ah, Lauren. Lauren is great, this is one of her most recents and I love these little "wake up date" videos that she does.

My Writing Process - Datev is a person I found through Alli Speed and such, and this video kind of does pretty much explain how writing things works. (Stop trying and it'll come?)

The Pubert Situation - this is an Achievement Hunter / RoosterTeeth... thing. It's just little 'animated adventures' of some silly things that occur. I always laugh when I hear this audio. So - if you're looking for a silly laugh (also Addam's Family related title).

Have I mentioned Agent Carter here yet? Because HOLY AGENT CARTER, it's so very good so far. You really need to watch it, just give it a try. I bought a season pass on iTunes because of reasons. Also, I'm only like three episodes into the show The Librarians, but I'm really liking it so far.

Blog Posts I've Liked(seriously no order):
Fresh Batch (New Releases February 1st - 7th) - I might really like these kinds of things too much, I find it so interesting what's coming out. I guess it'd incredible I don't preorder, or buy, more new releases then I do.

Quick Thoughts: Poison Study - I've had this book on my TBR pile for years, at this point. And I've only ever heard vague reviews about it (I've sure others have passed through subscription feeds just unseen for one reason or another), but this made me actually think I might get to this one soon (not February, though, that month is chock full already).

Am I Still A Blogger? - This was interesting to me, especially as someone whose trying and trying to comment more, when that just isn't something I've always done (and I feel awful for). It's an anxiety thing for me, personally. And this post just kind of hit some things.

I got nominated for a thing! (Thank you!) And I did it! And nominated/tagged more people (Does anyone know why here it's 'nominated'? I think it stresses me out more then just saying 'tag').

Miscellaneous:
I've realized as I put the finishing touches on this post (as I do the post, stop lying to yourself, Casey) that I didn't post... anything this week. I'm not sure how that happened. I guess I forgot I didn't have anything scheduled. Do you do that? Apparently I do that now.

Anyway - it's been a strange week. I didn't read much, having to push myself at points through the last two Dante Valentine books. However - that's one series for the year done! Huzzah! Hopefully, I'll be putting up a series review, but we'll see how it works out.

Honestly, it's been kind of a weird week overall. It definitely proved to myself, though, that if I'm not just doing one thing after another, I'm not going to get anything done.

I don't think I'm going to post a separate TBR for February, though I do have an actual plan for the month where I normally don't, but maybe if it goes well I'll do a March one. So many plans and ideas and things to do, books to read, posts to write.

This week I've got a few things going up: January Wrap Up, a post about spoken word (and slam) poetry, a review, and then another discussion type post that is rambly and I wrote very late at night but I still wanted to put up because I think it makes sense and I like it.

So I will see you then. What did you read or discover this week? Have you read/seen anything I mentioned? Let me know!

January 26th | Weekly Wrap Up #6

Another week over and done with, and more books read!

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
Club Shadowlands (Masters of Shadowlands #1) by Cheris Sinclair (4/5)
This - surprised me. I bought it a short time ago, because it was cheap and I think someone recommended it (maybe? I'm... not sure, anymore). I, honestly, didn't expect much. At points, it was interestingly emotional, them figuring each other out, that's the kind of thing I like the most in romance books (especially with no bullshit).

Showa, The History of Japan, 1926-1939 by Shigeru Mizuki (5/5)
This book was incredible. I was surprised how much I liked this, I honestly wasn't sure after my completely impulse by, but it was definitely a surprisingly fantastic pick. Highly recommended if you like history. (I'm planning on doing a full review, but I haven't written it yet so we'll see what happens).

Warning: Contains Language by Neil Gaiman (5/5)
This - surprised me. It's from his early stuff and I did not expect it to be as dark as it was. I'm not sure why, Gaiman can be dark (one reason I like his books so much), but this audiobook still surprised me at points. I'd recommend it, though, to Gaiman fans who aren't surprised by darker things, different things. Fantastically read to you by Neil himself, who should narrate everything, in my opinion.

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain (3.5/5)
I - enjoyed this, I'm considering do a full review of it and such, but we'll see. I rated it so low for a few reasons, and I wrote about it on my goodreads review that I wrote, quickly, right after finishing it. Basically: it was a slog and I knew a bit of it before reading it.

Ouran, Volume 8 by Bisco Hatori (5/5)
I'm so amused how out of order the anime did things, but there are definitely huge differences. However - I really enjoy the silly added stuff at the end, it's kind of fantastic.

Lips Touch: Three Times by Laini Taylor, Jim Di Bartolo (5/5)
Three short stories and I don't know which one I liked most. Possibly the last one? I definitely wanted a whole series based around that idea. And Laini's writing is gorgeous, as are Jim's illustrations. So very, very good. Highly recommended

Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson (5/5)
So, so incredible. Beautifully written and just so touching, I really loved it, highly recommended.

For currently reading - I started Spook by Mary Roach, but wasn't really feeling it. And, looking back at what I read this week, I might be a little burnt out on non-fiction. Also started The Coldest Girl in Cold Town, which I'm loving so far. Why did I wait so long to read this? Also want to get back into Saint City Sinner and finish it, and the next and last book in the series, because I started this books months ago and had to stop because the feelings.

Other:
I'm not really going to put anything else this week. I'm sorry, I know I'm kind of already failing at this thing these last two weeks. But this past week has been... stressful, bad stressful. For personal reasons, that I haven't actually talked about on any social medias yet.

Does anyone else have a problem talking about stuff on social media? I just am not sure how to get everything to 140 characters, so I normally just use it to talk about stuff I love, sometimes complains, and talk to friends. Anyway - my mom's mother passed away this past week. She'd been put into an assisted living place a couple years ago and, early last year, moved into a nursing home.

And now she's gone. And, it might sounds strange, but we're not having a funeral, or really anything, because she didn't want anything. Also, she donated her body to science so she's off already, literally on another adventure (this is how we keep talking about it. Our family might have a very morbid sense of humor, but at least we know she did as well).

So it's been a stressful, hard week, and will probably be for the next few weeks, regardless. And has been, actually, for other reasons. It never seems to be honestly calm around here. I hope you all had good weeks, or at least better then mine.

To get completely off topic and off of the sad things - what are you currently reading? (have I yet mentioned my slight addiction to seeing what people are reading/how they're feeling about it? It feels like research...)

January 19th | Weekly Wrap Up #5

Another week flew by almost without me noticing, whew that was so strange. How did we get here already? I did some reading this month, definitely took a bit of a breather after the read-a-thon / read a bunch of manga.

I had stuff scheduled for this week that went up, while I kind of took a break? (I was actually really excited about all the posts, I just forgot that they were scheduled to go up). I was just feeling tired and a little blah. And so I didn't want to push myself into doing things - I needed a break after reading/blogging every day continuously for a week (not to mention how much blog post prep I did in the first few days of the new year, all of which is up by now. Which seems incredible to me, but I'm glad it's all up. And I hope if you missed anything - you'll check it out and maybe give me your thoughts/feelings).

Blogging in tiring, though. And sometimes stressful, though I definitely don't like to, and try not to, stress myself out about it. It's not a job, not really, I don't get payed anything (and I, actually, would rather just keep it this way), but it is something I'm always surprised at how much I love doing it - even if it's hard sometimes.

However - I feel like I should add there are going to be few weeks, hell months, like this past one. I'm not going to be someone who can continously get something up everevery week day. It's just not realistic for me (and I'm amazed by the people who do, I bow down to your brain power).

And now that I've rambled a bit about possible blog burn out, let's move forwards, shall we?

Reading: (finished this week and actively currently-reading)
I didn't end up reading a lot this week, very little even. But I did get a few things finished.

Dark Wolf Rising by Rhyannon Byrd (3/5)
It was... fun. I started it during Bout of Books, but didn't end up finishing it because it was on my kindle.

Ouran High School Host Club 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 by Bisco Hatori (5/5)
I might of read too many of these this week, taking a bit of a break from heavier books (I think The Way of Shadows kind of knocked me into a mini-slump/hangover kind of deal), but these are so good and so ridiculous.

The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black (5/5)
A fantastic book, read. It was a reread for me, I read it in August of 2014, but it just came out and I wanted to read it again. Highly, highly recommended. The writing is gorgeous, the faeries that Holly Black writes always impress me. Go, read.

I'm also currently reading a few things! I started volume 8 of Ouran (shhh) and am trying for the second time to read Quiet (it's just so long, and at points very... I'm slogging, I like it, but it's a battle). Also reading Showa: A History of Japan, 1926 - 1939 which is really, really good so far, it's in a cartoon comic style and, as the title suggest, tells the history of Japan starting at the beginning of the Showa era.

Everything Else:
I've just started my rewatch of Robin Hood on Netflix because it's being taken on February 1st and I use to love that show when it was airing, and was upset it was canceled (might still be a bit annoyed), but I haven't seen season 1 probably since it aired and... Netflix.

I also started episode one of Madoka Magica, but I'm not sure I finished it? As you can see - it was not a very productive week for anything.

I've been watching some YouTube stuff (keeping up with a few peoples channels, but not many. RoosterTeeth/Achievement Hunter and some BookTubers, reading some blogs, but I haven't been keeping up with anything specifically. However, a few things.

However - SciFi fans! The Expanse TV show has a trailer now - a trailer. And good god I freaked out while watching it, I didn't know I was this excited about this. It made me want to immedaitely reread the first two books and then get to three and four. Still no official release date besides 2015, but I'm kind of hoping sooner rather then later, because I am so excited.
